Chapter 29: A prank

"Look down; you’ll regret it if you don’t." When Gavin continued pressuring me, I gave in and opened my eyes. Looking down, I saw the vastness of the ocean and the ruggedness of the cliff. It’s breathtaking.

He was right; I would have regretted it. Standing at the edge of the cliff made me feel small and vulnerable, but the serenity and peace, the sound of the waves, and the ocean breeze were quite calming and soothing.

I was deeply engrossed in the ocean’s beauty until I felt a jerk from behind. When I saw myself leaving the cliff, my breath hitched and my eyes widened, but an immediate tug pulled me back to the edge.

Once I felt my legs on the ground, I turned to see Gavin laughing behind me, and not only him, but the others too. They were all laughing—Bryce, Parker, and Cooper.

What? Is this a joke? Irritated and angry, I immediately attacked Gavin. I started hitting his chest, slapping him with all the strength in my body.

How dare he pull such a prank on me? How dare he? I almost died. No. I already died. I died the second my legs left the cliff for a moment. Many thoughts crossed my mind within that single second.

I imagined how my parents would feel once they learned of my death. I imagined the look on my siblings’ faces. I imagined how Ruby could feel.

Moon goddess! Gavin almost sent me to an early grave. I continued hitting him and didn’t stop until he held my hands; then he pulled me closer and embraced me.

He was still laughing, though. He hadn’t stopped. But I wasn’t happy about it, and before I could stop myself, I burst out and began crying.

Shit, I wish I could kill him. I wish I could kill them. All four of them. What sort of prank is this?

"Are you that scared of dying?" I heard Cooper ask between fits of laughter, but I ignored him and continued crying.

I hate them. I seriously hate them.

I’m calm now. They asked me to remain in the car while they ran their business. Several vehicles conveying some of their men arrived a while ago, and...

Wait... I’m seeing a few familiar faces. I saw, wait... This is the guy I met in Bryce’s office. The guy who dragged me to the ranch.

He’s also here, too. But he appears worn out. His hands and legs are tied.

I can also see Mr. Williams. His hands and legs are also tied.

Huh... what’s going on? Why are those men here?

I continued to watch them from the car. I watched how the Notorious Four’s men dragged these two men to the cliff.

They tied a tire around their waists. After receiving orders from Parker, the men pushed both victims off the cliff.

What the...! ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

I recoiled back in my seat and placed my hands over my mouth in an effort to stop myself from screaming.

What did they just do? Did they just murder both Mr. Williams and the guy who touched me?

Wait... There are more.

I recognize two other faces from last night. Their hands and legs are also tied, and there’s a tire tied around their waists. After receiving orders from Parker, these men were tossed into the ocean.

Wait... Are they killing them? Why? Why are they killing them? For what? As I was struggling to understand their motives, Cooper’s words filled my head again.

"How many more enemies do we have to make to protect you? How many more men do we have to brutally kill to keep you safe? How many?!"

When he uttered those words, I initially believed he was joking. I thought...

Moon goddess!

I’m feeling dizzy and nauseous; I want to vomit.

But I can’t step out; they asked me to remain in the car and not to step out.

I can’t vomit in the car. I... I can’t...

When I couldn’t hold it in anymore, I opened the door and immediately released everything out of my mouth.

The brothers noticed this, and Cooper approached me.

"Are you okay?" When he tried to touch me, I immediately shut the door and moved my gaze away from him.

They kill... No. I know they kill people. Yes. But what I didn’t expect was for them to kill the men who made rude comments about me.

They didn’t have to do that. They didn’t have to go to that extent.

I was absorbed in my thoughts, but the sudden sound at the door pulled me out of my thoughts.

When I looked, I saw Cooper still standing there. If I don’t respond to him, he won’t leave.

After summoning courage, I slightly rolled the window down.

"Hey, are you okay?" he asked.

"Yes," I responded, not staring at him. I’m still in shock, and I don’t think I can look at him. I can’t look at either of them, either.

"Are you sure? You don’t look okay to me," he murmured.

"I’m okay," I blinked.

"You look so pale. Should I call the doctor?" He brought out his phone and started dialing a few digits, but I quickly rolled up the window and then locked the door.

I need space. I need to think.

Did they do this to Cole too? Is Cole still alive? Have they brutally killed him? Are they torturing him?

Oh, moon goddess! I wish I could save Cole. It’s my fault. It’s all my fault.

Lowering my head, I began to sob into my palms. I didn’t stop crying until Willa got into the car and took the wheel.

"Are you okay?" She frowned as she looked at me.

"I’m okay," I cleared my throat.

"Are we leaving now?" I asked.

"Yes, they want me to take you back."

"To the house?"

"Yes, Ms."

"Can you take me somewhere else instead?"

"Where’s that?"

"The warehouse."

"Warehouse?" freeweɓnovel.cøm

"I have the address." I opened my phone and showed her the location.

"But why are you heading to this warehouse?"

"Because I think Cole is there. I need to rescue him before they kill him. This warehouse is owned by the Brothers, and some of the patrol guards know me. They’ll easily let me in," I explained to her.

"You want to rescue the boy?" She grimaced.

"Yes, I need you to help me. Please take me there."

"What you’re asking for is impossible, Ms. I can’t take you there unless they give their permission."

"Maybe I should request permission," Willa added, and before I could stop her, she was out of the car.

Shit. What is she doing? This affair is supposed to be a secret. I got out of the car and went after her. I reached her just as she started speaking.

"Sir, she wants me to drive her to this warehouse; it’s one of your warehouses. Should I do that?" Willa questioned Bryce.

"No, I was just kidding. I want to go home; it’s late and I’m hungry," I immediately lied. I can’t let Bryce know.

But Bryce surprised me with the next words he uttered. "Why not? We were planning to take her there; she can visit the warehouse," he said, agreeing to my request.
