Chapter 28: The cliff

I’m in my room now, and I can’t stop crying. They didn’t even give me a chance to explain properly. I know I was wrong, but they didn’t have to get so angry at me.

It isn’t fair. Why do they keep getting angry at me? When I returned to my room, I saw my dinner laid out carefully on my table, but I no longer had the appetite to eat.

After crying through the whole night, I woke up with swollen eyes the following morning.

A knock came at the door, followed by an announcement, "Ms., it’s time for breakfast; the brothers are waiting in the dining room."

"I’m not interested!" I fumed, walked to the door, and immediately locked it.

"Ms.? Are you okay?" The female asked, but I didn’t respond and stayed quiet.

"Ms.," the maid continued to knock, and after she got tired, she walked away.

Once she left, I got up and went into the shower. I had a quick bath, then came out and wore my dress for the day—a two-piece black dress, matched with a luxurious four-inch high heel. freёwebnoѵel.com

I styled my hair, applied makeup to conceal my swollen eyes, and sprayed all kinds of body spray before walking out of my room.

I didn’t go to the dining room; I went straight to Bryce’s office. After searching his office, I saw my school bag. When I opened it, I found my phone inside.

Finally.

The battery was dead; I’ll charge it in the car.

I walked to the garage and found Willa waiting.

Still haven’t gotten a new driver?

I didn’t bother to speak to her; I got into the vehicle, and she drove me out of the house. When we arrived at school, I saw Ruby waiting.

"Goodness!" Ruby rushed to me and embraced me. "What happened to you? Yesterday, I attempted to enter the house, but I was unsuccessful. I was worried; your phone was off too."

"Forgive me," I muttered.

"What happened?"

"I think you need to stay away from me today," I said after we disengaged from the hug.

A frown settled on her face. "Why? Are you protesting today?"

"Hmm," I shook my head.

A sigh left her lips. "What did they do to you again?"

"They punished me. They also yelled at me. I’m not completely innocent either, but they should have listened to me."

"So how long are you planning to protest for?" ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom

"I didn’t show up for breakfast today," I revealed.

"You didn’t?" She gasped. "They must be truly pissed. What if they show up at school?"

"This is why I asked you to stay away today; I don’t want them to see you once they appear," I answered.

"It makes a lot of sense, but I don’t want to be far from you. I’ve missed you so much." She held my arm and leaned into me.

"I’ve missed you too, Ruby. Have you heard from Cole?"

"Cole? No. What’s up?"

"You won’t believe it; Cole ruined my plans."

"Why? What did he do?"

I revealed everything I heard to Ruby, and Ruby couldn’t stop exclaiming as I spoke.

I only have two classes today, and they’re practical classes. Today is the weekend. I’ll return home early.

After my two classes, I had a short chat with Ruby again.

"See you on Monday," she pouted. "I really want to chat with you, but I can’t."

"It’s alright, Ruby, we’ll see you on Monday."

"Bye." We embraced each other before separating. I got into the vehicle, and Willa took the wheel.

My phone was fully charged now. Once I opened it, tons of messages came in from different people.

Most were from my family, and some were from a strange number.

I opened the texts sent from the unknown number and began to read them.

"Hi, it’s Cole," the message read. "I got your number from Ruby."

Cole? He texted me?

"Call me with this line. I’m using a burner phone, so it won’t be tracked, and even if it gets tracked, you won’t be in trouble. I’ll be waiting," the second text read.

"Are you okay? No response. Did the Notorious Four hurt you? Are they angry that you let me escape?" the third text read.

"Hi, I’m worried. Why can’t I reach you?" the fifth text.

"My patience is wearing thin. I hope they didn’t hurt you," the sixth text.

"I’m very worried; if I don’t hear from you by tomorrow, I’ll go straight to one of the brothers. They shouldn’t hurt you because of me," the seventh text.

"Hi, time is up. I’m going to Gavin’s company; he is closer. I’ll send you a text once I get there," the eighth text.

"Hi, Amera, I’m here now; the security won’t let me see him," the ninth text.

"Hi, they’re bringing me to him now. Don’t worry, I’ll save you," the tenth and last text.

Did he seriously...? Wait, don’t tell me Cole ruined the escape plan because of me. He was worried about my safety, so he ruined it by showing up at Gavin’s office.

Oh, moon goddess. I can’t believe this.

Cole... He shouldn’t have done that. Why is he placing my life above his? Why is he so stupid?

A frustrated sigh left my lips, and I dropped my phone. Looking up, I noticed that Willa was taking the wrong route.

"Where’s this place? I want to go home," I immediately said.

"The brothers want me to bring you to a place," she stated.

"The brothers? Where?"

"We’ll be there in twenty minutes; please hold on."

After about twenty minutes, we arrived at a coastal mountain range.

We’re surrounded by mountains and the ocean, but I can’t see a single soul.

"Are you sure this is the right place?" I asked after getting out of the car.

"Yes, please come this way," Willa led me to a path; we walked for a while before arriving at our destination.

I can see them now—the brothers. And they were not alone.

There are about three vehicles parked by the side, and they’re standing close to a cliff.

What are they doing here? Why did they ask Willa to bring me here? What is going on? Different questions filled my head as I drew closer to them.

"Sir, we’re here," Willa announced, then bowed before walking away.

"Welcome, Princess." Gavin approached me. He tried to hold my hand, but I moved away. His brows furrowed a bit as he stared at me.

What are they doing at the edge of a cliff? Do they intend to push me into the ocean as a punishment? I honestly don’t trust them right now. They look suspicious.

"Why? Are you scared?" Gavin smirked, but I stayed quiet.

"Bring her here," Parker signaled to Gavin.

Gavin grabbed my hand and led me to where Bryce, Cooper, and Parker were, directly at the edge of the cliff. They were staring down at the ocean.

After taking me to the edge, Gavin encouraged me to look down, but I closed my eyes, refusing to look.

I don’t want to see. I refuse to see. I don’t know what their plan is. I just want to leave. I want to go home.
