Chapter 26: A meeting

It’s a few minutes past 4:00 p.m., and we’re all in the dining room. I am eating the dessert the chef made, while little Ariana is currently munching on her meal. She looks nothing like her mother; she bears no resemblance to Parker either—she’s just little and cute. Well, not too cute; she’s feisty and hasn’t stopped staring at me since she arrived from school.

When she could no longer contain her curiosity, she dropped her cutlery and shifted her gaze to her mother. "Mom, who is she? Is she Parker’s girlfriend?" She asked, pointing to me.

"Oh, you’re right. Finish your meal, and then we can talk; you must be hungry," Maria encouraged her.

She picked up her cutlery, but after taking a bite, she dropped the spoon.

"Why is she Parker’s girlfriend? Why does Parker have a girlfriend? Am I not enough for him?" She frowned, then added, "I don’t approve of this relationship; Parker is mine. Parker says I’m the most beautiful girl he’s seen. So I’m definitely his favorite."

What the heck... She’s a very funny little thing. I’m tempted to laugh, but I hold myself back. She might cry if I laughed in her face.

Parker is hers? What a joke! Parker is mine!

"Yeah, you’re right, I’m yours," Parker appeared out of nowhere with a bottle of wine and two glasses; he placed a cup before me, opened the bottle, poured a small amount into the cup, and then approached Aria. He sat beside her and poured himself a drink.

"You heard him right?" Aria turned to me. "He likes me more." She stuck out her tongue and made an ugly face.

She’s a rude little thing. I wish I could pull out all her hair. I can’t believe I called her cute; she’s not!

I secretly stuck out my tongue and made the same ugly face she did. My actions made her frown, and before I knew it, she was crying.

What is wrong with her? Can’t handle the same thing you dish out? Her mother doesn’t scold her. It’s obvious. I came here intending to bond with her; I can’t believe this.

"Mom, she’s mean, she’s really mean. Send her away; I don’t like her," she complained to her mom.

"Parker, I hate her; don’t marry her, marry me instead." She also turned to Parker and said, but Parker only laughed and consoled her.

Parker is being so soft with her; he’s never this soft with me. I wish to leave; I made a mistake coming here.

Thirty minutes later.

"Hey, why aren’t you saying anything?" Parker turned to me, but I remained quiet. We’re in his car, and he’s driving back to the house. It’s 7: 04 p.m. currently.

"Did Maria say something to you?" He asked, and I quickly turned my head to face him.

"No, she didn’t. No. Of course not, I’m not silent because of her," I quickly explained. I don’t want him to misunderstand me.

"If it’s not because of her, then why are you silent?"

"Because of your sister; she’s a little brat," I complained, and Parker huffed, then laughed.

The girl tickled me until I fell off my seat. She did that on purpose. I had to embarrass myself in front of his mother.

"Is that the only reason? Because of Aria?" He continued laughing. He is finding this funny. I am not.

"Is it funny?" I glared at him.

"Yeah, it is. You know, sometimes I can’t tell if you’re an adult or if you’re still a kid. Most of the time, you behave more like a kid. Yeah, definitely." He chuckled.

I rolled my eyes, folded my arms, and fell silent again. He is not taking me seriously. They never take me seriously.

Silence returned to the car, but Parker broke it about twenty minutes later.

"We’re close to the house. I want you to head straight to your room and don’t come out until tomorrow. Do you hear me?"

"Dinner..."

"The workers will bring it to your room; they’re back," he revealed.

Oh, wonderful! I’m happy.

"But why? What’s happening tonight?" I looked at him.

"We’ll be having a meeting, and the minutes will begin once it’s 8:00 p.m.," he said.

"Are you holding the meeting for Cooper?"

"Nah, not him."

"Then what?"

"You don’t need to know our business, Princess," he groaned. I guess he is back to being the mean Parker I know.

"Okay," I sighed.

"Promise?" fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

"I promise." We arrived at the house, and I went straight to my room. I had my bath and lay on the bed.

Where’s dinner? It’s a few minutes to 9:00 p.m. Do they want me to starve?

When my stomach began to grumble, I jumped down from the bed and left the room.

I saw a maid heading toward the kitchen and stopped her. She looked like the maid who took my schoolbag, and I was right; she was the one.

"Hey, my schoolbag, my phone—why didn’t you keep them in my room?" I questioned.

"Oh, I gave it to Alpha Bryce. He took your schoolbag from me that day; he probably kept it in his office."

"His office?"

"Yes, Ms."

"But where is my dinner? I haven’t had dinner yet," I complained.

"Oh, I apologize; most of the servants and the cooks are at the ranch. It must have slipped our minds."

"The ranch? What are they doing over there?"

"Oh, they’re having a meeting close to the ranch."

"This late? They have offices."

"Oh, it’s not just the four of them; there are more," she informed. freewebnøvel.com

"There are more? How many of them?"

"About twelve to thirteen of them, I am not sure."

"Really?"

"Yes, kindly excuse me now, Ms. Your dinner will be in your room within the next ten minutes," the maid said before walking away.

I need to grab my phone from Bryce’s office. I walked to Bryce’s office, went in, and tried to search for my bag, but the first thing that caught my eye was the multiple pistols and bullets spread out across his table.

Are they planning something dangerous? The bullets are not ordinary ones; they’re special silver bullets. And they can kill both werewolves and humans.

So this is the reason Parker asked me not to step out of my room. They’re doing something dangerous. It is unfortunate that they do not discuss their business when I am present. I also want to learn about their business.

I was still examining the guns and didn’t notice someone approaching the office. When I saw the doorknob turn, I quickly switched off the light and hid behind one of the chairs.

The door opened, and this strange person came in. Yes, strange, because I can’t recognize his scent.

This person started picking up the guns and the bullets; after he was done, he opened the door and exited the office. But a few seconds after leaving, he returned to the office and turned on the light.

Shit. Why is he back...? He removed the chair shielding me and fixed his gaze on me. "You... Who are you?" He questioned.
