Chapter 15: Pleading

"Hey," Cole smiled as he approached me. "It’s really you! What a surprise!" He chuckled.

What’s going on? He’s smiling? What is this supposed to mean? My eyes moved from Cole and settled on Gavin’s face.

Gavin is smiling at me. What is really happening? I’m trying to understand the situation. How did they find him?

"Are you okay?" When I didn’t respond, Cole moved to touch me, but I quickly backed away. My reaction surprised him.

"Are you okay, Amera?" He asked again.

I don’t think he understands the situation. No, he doesn’t know it yet. But he will soon find out.

"He told me that you worked here. He said he needed a driver and that he could pay me handsomely. I doubted him at first, but I decided to see for myself. I’m surprised to see you here, Amera," Cole continued, "but you don’t look fine. Are you unwell?"

"I... I’m fine. You... Do you know where you are?" I returned my gaze to him.

"Yeah, I do." He looked around, then back at me. "They are the Sebastian brothers, popularly known as the Notorious Four," he chuckled, briefly glancing at the brothers.

"But they seem cool to me; the pay is great, and I can work next to you. I’ll get to see you every day; isn’t that great?"

He sounds so innocent. He doesn’t know a thing. I can see Parker suppressing his laugh; they’re playing him. He doesn’t know it yet, but he’s at death’s gate. He might meet his end if he isn’t lucky. freeweɓnøvel.com

Moon goddess, help me. I don’t like this situation. Why are the brothers doing this to me?

They don’t know about the kiss, right? No, I don’t think they do. If they knew, they wouldn’t be here entertaining him. They would have taken care of him already.

But what do they know? Why did they bring him here? They must know something; otherwise, they wouldn’t have done this.

Moving my gaze to Gavin, I asked, "Why... why did you bring him here?"

"I was searching for a new driver and ran into his profile. I interviewed him and saw that he was your friend. You went to the same high school, right?"

"Yes, we did," Cole answered when I stayed silent.

"I heard you two were close. Did you two date at some point?" Parker directed his question to Cole.

"Oh, that," Cole turned to Parker, then briefly glanced at me before responding, "I did like her, but we never had anything," he replied.

"Oh, you liked her?" Cooper cleared his throat and glanced at me.

"Yeah... I think she’s amazing," Cole grinned, looking pleased.

"Why are you turning red? Do you still have feelings for her?" Bryce asked this time.

"Oh, is it that obvious?" Cole ran a hand through his hair; it’s something he does when he’s shy or nervous.

Cole... I wish I could scream at him, warn him to stop speaking, but I can’t. The deed is done. We’re in deep trouble. Both Cole and I. I just hope they don’t learn about the kiss. I hope Cole doesn’t talk about it.

"It is. I also think she’s a great person; she works as our accountant. She’s in her first year, but she’s pretty smart," Cooper lied.

"I’m sure she is." Cole turned his attention back to me.

"Do you have plans on getting together with her? Any future plans?" Gavin questioned.

"Future... I... It depends on her; we just reunited, so I don’t know. It depends on her, but I still like her. I told her when we met at the mall the other day."

The mall? Did he just...? My eyes immediately went wide, and before I knew it, I was rushing over to him.

I grabbed his arm and dragged him out of the meeting room.

"Stay here, I need to speak to them privately," I said, turning to leave, but he caught my wrist and pulled me close.

"Are you not happy to see me? You don’t look pleased," he whispered.

"Cole, you don’t understand." I snatched my hand away and stepped back. "Just stay here, please," I pleaded, then returned to the meeting room.

"We thought it could be better if we brought your little boyfriend to your doorstep," Parker said as he stepped closer to me.

He stood before me and softly touched my shoulder. "How do you like our little surprise? You’re happy, aren’t you?"

"I... I’m not..."

"You’re not happy to see your first love?" he inquired. "Is that something you genuinely expect me to believe?"

First... love? How did he...? How did he learn that? How... Only Ruby knows this information. Did he...?

Why do they know so much? What is going on? I’m seriously confused. I also have a headache. I think I might fall sick at this point. Yes, I will; I can feel it coming.

"Her first love? He was?" Bryce stood up and walked to the door.

"He’s your first love?" He repeated, but I aggressively shook my head.

"No! That’s a lie. He’s not." I don’t know where the confidence came from, but I firmly refused.

"A lie? Does this mean that your friend lied to us?" Gavin fixed his hand on his jaw. "This means that she lied to us."

Ruby... Are they referring to her? Did they...? What did they do to her for her to give them such information? They must have threatened her or worse.

"The girl is a bloody liar; she’s not good," Gavin groaned.

"Should we just get rid of her? I hate liars," Parker said, turning his gaze to Gavin.

"Should we?" Gavin made a confused face; he opened his mouth to speak, but before he could say the next word, I immediately went to my knees.

"Please... Please let them go." I pleaded, my gaze fixed on the floor. "Cole. Ruby. Don’t touch them. I don’t know what you’re planning to do to Cole, but please, I beg you to change your mind." Then I looked up.

"Cole... Cole is a good guy, and... He... He is an orphan; he has to take care of his two siblings, so please let him go. I promise I won’t talk to him again." freēwēbηovel.c૦m

"I promise to get rid of the phone and forget everything about him," I pleaded.

"Phone? What phone is she talking about?" Parker asked, confused.

"You have been secretly communicating with him?" Cooper scoffed.

"She’s been talking to him," Gavin chuckled, his voice low and disbelieving.

"How long has this been going on?" Bryce also asked. "How long have you been in a relationship with him?"

Wait. They don’t know about my new phone? Did I just shoot myself in the foot? They don’t know about my secret conversations with Cole?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!
