Chapter 14: Heart attack
My hands went to his arms, and I held them for a brief second, but after regaining my senses, I quickly pulled away and stepped back.
What did I... What did I just do? Did I just return the kiss? Goodness!
"Are you... Are you okay?" Cole drew closer to me again, but I took another step back.
"No... I... am..." I stuttered, breathless.
"Is it because of the kiss? Was it that bad? I’m sorry if I offended you, but I’ve always wanted to do that," he apologized.
"No. No, it’s nothing, no," I said, clearing my throat.
"But your reaction..." He moved closer and held my hands. "I didn’t imagine you’d react that way," he said, looking at me.
"No, it’s just that..." I paused and cleared my throat. How do I explain this situation to him? How do I tell him that I’m fated to the Notorious Four? If they learn of our kiss, they won’t let him go free. They’ll either kill him, put him in a coma, or take him to prison. They won’t let him go free, that’s for sure. freёwebnovel.com
My lipstick is smeared on his lips; I can’t let anyone see it.
I immediately went on my tiptoes, reached for his lips, and began to wipe the lipstick off. But in the process, Willa showed up. She rushed toward us, and before I knew it, she had knocked Cole to the floor.
What the heck...!
"Who the hell are you?" Willa held Cole’s hands and pushed his face into the ground.
"Willa, he’s my friend! He’s innocent—leave him alone!" I half-yelled in defense.
It took a lot of convincing before Willa finally freed Cole.
Cole’s face appeared as pale as a ghost.
"What just happened?" He asked, looking at Willa. She had taken us both by surprise. Why did she appear now? She should have waited in the car or something. How did she track me down so easily? The mall is big.
"Who’s she?" Cole looked at me.
"She..." How do I explain it to him?
"She’s no—" I started to respond, but Willa stepped forward. She extended her hand to him, and he took it.
"I’m Willa, Ms. Amera’s personal guard, and I apologize for any misunderstanding that might have occurred." She firmly shook his hand.
"Personal guard?" Cole glanced at me, but I quickly lowered my gaze. Oh, shit, Willa is spoiling everything.
"Willa, can you wait outside the shop? He’s my friend; I need to speak to him in private. You can just stand over there—I promise it won’t take long." Willa hesitated a little, but she understood and went to the door, though her gaze stayed on us.
"Cole," I called.
"Yes, Amera? What is all this?"
"I... I can’t explain it to you now. Can you visit me? Do you have time tomorrow?"
"Yeah, I usually spend Sundays with my siblings."
"Great, maybe you should bring them over," I suggested. Aside from the fact that Cole is my first love, he’s also my friend. I know his family, and he knows mine. We weren’t very close because he was more focused on his studies, but he is still my friend. Maybe I can explain some things to him when he comes over tomorrow.
I wish I could visit him, but I might incur the brothers’ anger by doing that.
"Oh, will that be okay? Your parents..."
"My parents are fine; you saw my brothers, didn’t you? They’re home. We’re good. I also want to see Lily."
"Okay, I’ll talk to them."
"Bye for now."
"Bye, see you," he smiled as I left the shop.

Next Day
"Mom, Cole will be visiting with his siblings today. You didn’t tell me his dad passed."
"Oh shoot! I forgot; I was being careful because of the brothers. I totally forgot to inform you of his father’s death. Did you say he’d be coming?"
"Yes."
"Is there a way to help him, Mom? Can he go back to school? Can’t you help him? I want to help him directly, but you know I can’t. And he might also refuse my help if I offer it."
"Oh, about that..." She shrugged. "The brothers..."
"Forget about the brothers; help his siblings. If you take that burden away from him, he’ll be able to return to school. I’m sure he’ll secure many scholarships; you know how brilliant he is."
"Yes, I remember, but I’m still scared. If he were a woman, then I would have done that; the brothers also monitor us sometimes."
"No, they don’t."
"I said sometimes," she argued.
"Alright, just help his siblings. He’ll take care of himself, okay?"
"I’ll speak to your father about that," she agreed.
"Thank you, Mom."
Cole wasn’t able to come because of a sudden job offer he got, but he sent his siblings to the house, and we played with them.
Monday came, and I returned to school. After school, I went back to the mansion.
I haven’t been able to forget the kiss—how Cole kissed me in the mall.
Why did he do that? And why did I reciprocate? I should have stopped him.
Wait, why am I worried? The brothers cheat on me all the time. They move with different women and also have fun with them. I shouldn’t overthink things.
But I can’t help but worry about what will happen if the brothers learn about Cole. No, let me get some sleep; I’ve had a busy day.
I went to bed and lay down, but just as I was about to drift into dreamland, a knock came at the door, followed by an announcement.
"Ms. Amera, the brothers want you in the meeting room. It’s urgent," the maid announced.
It’s urgent? Why? What happened? Jumping out of bed, I quickly rushed down to the meeting room. In the meeting room, I saw the four brothers gathered there.
But there was one more person.
A guy...
"Come in," Gavin gave me a tight-lipped smile.
"You have a new driver."
"I’m sure you know him, so you don’t need an introduction," Gavin said.
Just then, the guy turned in my direction, and I almost had a heart attack.
What?!
What is he doing here? What is Cole...?
Why is Cole here? Moon goddess!
