Chapter 114: Her remains

"Where... where are you? Tell me where you are," I swallowed as I asked.

He gave me the name of the hospital he was at. I changed my outfit and immediately rushed to the hospital.

I stopped at the front desk and spoke to the man behind the counter. "Where is the morgue?" I asked, and he gave me proper directions.

I followed his instructions and got there. I saw Gavin sitting alone outside the morgue, and I rushed to him.

"Who... who died?" I grabbed his arm and looked at him.

He slowly lifted his head and looked at me; a smile appeared on his lips. "You’re here." freeweɓnovel.cѳm

"Yes, I came as fast as I could. Tell me. What happened? Did you say Cooper is—"

"The private investigator I hired died after discovering my mother’s remains," he replied.

A frown appeared on my face. "A private investigator?"

"Yes, he was the one searching for my mother. He was brutally murdered before I could even speak to him."

"Oh..." I let go of his arm and stumbled back. Moon goddess! I almost died of a panic attack.

I thought Cooper was the one dead. I’m glad... I placed my hand on my chest and squeezed it. I’m glad Cooper is still alive.

I’m happy he’s not dead.

"What?" He looked up at me.

I moved closer and sat beside him. "Did you say that the investigator found your mother’s remains?" I questioned.

He bobbed his head, and a gasp escaped my lips. "Are you... Are you sure that she’s the one?"

"Yes, a DNA and autopsy result came back; she’s been dead for a while now. From what I know, she was buried alive in a wall. She died from lack of air."

"What??" A bigger gasp left my lips. "What crazed sicko could do that to another person?"

"Why would they bury her in a wall?" I angrily rose to my feet. "Do you know who did this?" I half yelled.

He chuckled weakly, reached for my hand, and pulled me down; I sat beside him again. Oh, now I understand the reason he has been crying.

I feel bad for him. His mother was brutally murdered. It’s very rare for someone to be murdered in this manner.

The person who did this must be insane.

I leaned closer to him. "So... what are you...?" What do you plan to do now? Will you find the person responsible for your mother’s death?"

"I think I know who did this; I don’t need to look far. There’s only one person who can be sick enough to do this," Gavin breathed out.

"And who is that?" I whispered.

"The General. It has to be him. Her body was found in one of his homes; he’s the only person sick enough to do that," he responded.

Moon goddess! I rose to my feet again, shocked and disgusted by the idea that his father did this to his mother.

He pulled me to the chair again. "Have you... have you informed your brothers?" I probed.

"No."

"Maybe you should inform them; they’ll help..."

He turned his face to me. "No, not yet, and I shouldn’t have informed you about this. Pretend you never heard any of this," he said.

My face turned sour. "But how can I...?" This is the first time he’s ever opened up to me. How does he expect me to pretend after learning such devastating news?

"I just want you to—" he began to speak, but I interrupted him with a hug. I pulled closer and embraced him, holding him tightly.

He returned the hug.

"It’s okay; if you want me to keep this information from your brothers, then I’ll oblige, but don’t ask me to pretend and act like I don’t know something this terrible happened. I can’t pretend; allow me to be by your side, please. I can’t begin to imagine the level of pain you are in. Don’t push me away; I’m tired of being pushed away," I begged.

He pulled out of the hug. "No, I’m afraid I can’t grant your request." He held one of my hands. "I won’t allow it."

"It’s not like I’ll be endangering my life; I just want to be by your side," I pouted.

He smiled. "It’s the same thing."

"No, no, it’s not." I snatched my hand. "It’s not the same."

"I know you; you can’t do without getting into trouble. You’ll get into trouble if I allow that, and if you get hurt, I will never forgive myself for it."

"I don’t see how I’ll get into trouble just by being by your side," I argued.

He exhaled, "Just listen to me."

"We need to bury your mother, Gavin," I immediately changed the topic.

"No, they’re not done yet. I asked them to identify the exact time of death; I need all the information I can get," he facepalmed.

"After that, we’ll bury her, right? Burying her is the right thing to do."

He nodded. "Yeah, you’re right, but it won’t happen until I’ve gotten all the information I need."

"Alright," I patted his back, "have you had breakfast? Let’s eat." I stood up and faced him.

"I’m not hungry; you can eat."

"No, let’s eat together." I held his hand and tried to force him up, but he was too strong, too heavy; I couldn’t lift him.

He chuckled.

"Stand up," I tried to force him again but got the same result.

"If you don’t go with me, I’ll order and eat here. What do you say? Is it right to eat in front of a morgue?"

"You’re so persistent," he groaned, finally rising to his feet. I grinned.

"Shouldn’t you be in school? What are you doing here?"

"I’ll go to school when I’m ready."

"Your friend will be lonely today."

"I texted her on my way here; she’ll be fine, and besides, she has someone new," I murmured, more to myself than to Gavin. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

"Someone new?" He looked at me as we walked down the hospital hallway.

"Yeah," I answered.

"A new friend?"

"A crush, I’d say," I chuckled.

He shook his head. "You and your friend are something else." We left the hospital and went to his car. He drove to the closest English restaurant, and we had breakfast there.

"Alright, I’ll drive you home now," he said, fixing his seatbelt.

"No, let’s visit Cooper."

"Cooper?" He grimaced.

"Cooper is at the hospital; he lost consciousness after losing so much blood," I explained.

One of his brows went up in surprise.

"You weren’t aware of this?" I also fixed my seatbelt.

"Yeah, I wasn’t home last night. I was at the hospital," he informed me.

"Oh," I nodded, "let’s see him; Bryce took him to the hospital close to the house."

"Bryce did? That’s surprising," he said, expressing surprise.

"The doctor couldn’t make it on time, so he had to drive Cooper there."

"Oh, understandable."

He drove out of the restaurant premises, and we went to the hospital.

Cooper was alone by the time we arrived.

A smile appeared on my face when I saw him sitting on his bed, looking very healthy; he looked alive. It’s wonderful.

His eyes shifted from his phone and settled on us when we entered his ward.

"Oh, this is a surprise. I knew you would come, but I didn’t know you’d be coming with Gavin," he said.

"He drove me here," I smiled and walked to his bedside.

He dropped his phone. "Hey, you look a little rough. Are you okay?" Cooper asked Gavin.

"I could say the same about you," Gavin smirked as he sat down on the available seat.

"How did you end up here?"

Cooper groaned at the question, "You don’t want to know."

Gavin gave a sidelong smile. "When are you getting discharged?"

"It should be this evening; the doctors here want to monitor my health, but I’ve got no time for that. I’ll stay here for the rest of today and leave this evening," he narrated.

He turned his eyes to me. "Have you seen Bryce?"

"No, I thought he’d be here with you."

"No, I didn’t see him when I woke up this morning."

"What about Parker?"

"Didn’t see him either."

So where did they go if they didn’t visit him? Why didn’t they answer my calls?

I hope they’re good. Especially Bryce.

Hold on, Bryce is also a patient. What if he passed out somewhere?

I rushed to my feet. "I need to go," I announced, looking at the two men in the room.

"I thought today’s school was cancelled," Gavin said.

"It is, but I have something I need to do; I’ll take a taxi home." I rushed out of the ward and out of the hospital. I took a taxi to the house; when I arrived, I rushed to Bryce’s room.

"Bryce!" I called, knocking on the door. When I didn’t get a response, I requested his room key; when I got it, I unlocked his door and went in.

Upon entering, I looked around the room and saw a bloody bandage sitting beside his bed. My eyes widened as I picked it up. Has he been bleeding?
