Chapter 2398: Chapter 2398: Sleeping with Men Just for Money
Jasmine Yale smiled at her and greeted her briefly.
She had only met the housekeeping lady once or twice, and they were not familiar with each other, nor had they spoken before.
This was a middle-aged woman in her forties, and her face was not particularly friendly.
The housekeeping lady stopped and looked at Jasmine Yale, "Miss Yale, are you here to get your things?"
"Yes, I’m here to get my own things."
"Make sure you only take your own things and don’t touch Mr. Cheney’s." The housekeeping lady stopped at the door and looked at Jasmine Yale’s suitcase, frowning. She didn’t think there were many of Jasmine Yale’s things here. frёewebηovel.cѳm
Jasmine Yale smiled awkwardly, "Of course I’m only taking my own things. I won’t touch Mr. Cheney’s things, you can rest assured."
"Can I check the suitcase? I’m afraid if something goes missing and Mr. Cheney can’t find it when he returns, he might think I took it."
Jasmine Yale’s expression changed, "Why should I let you check my suitcase? Even if there is a check, it would be up to Mr. Cheney to do it, not you, right?"
"Don’t be mad, I’m just doing my job, better safe than sorry."
"Do you even know what my relationship with him is?"
This question seemed to stump the housekeeping lady. She looked fixedly at Jasmine Yale for a few seconds, unable to make a judgment immediately, just sizing Jasmine Yale up and down.
Jasmine Yale didn’t like the look she was getting, so she turned her head and continued packing her things.
They were just some insignificant things, like autumn clothes.
Whether she took them or not didn’t make much difference, but she was afraid that if she didn’t take them, she’d have to buy new ones later, and she didn’t have much spare money.
She kept her head down and organized her clothes, folding them neatly.
"You and Mr. Cheney live together, right?" the housekeeping lady shot Jasmine Yale a glance, "You’ve broken up now, haven’t you?"
"Which eye of yours sees that we’ve broken up?" Jasmine Yale didn’t even look up.
"Wouldn’t I know? Mr. Cheney has a fiancée, it’s Miss Janus."
"You certainly know a lot."
"Of course I do!" The housekeeping lady said proudly, "That’s why I definitely need to check your suitcase. Things in Mr. Cheney’s house are very valuable. If anything goes missing, I can’t be held responsible!"
"What if I refuse?"
"If you have nothing to hide and didn’t take Mr. Cheney’s things, you wouldn’t refuse! The more you say no, the more it proves you have something to hide!"
"Your logic is strange. The suitcase is mine, why should I let you touch my things? What right do you have to check my belongings?" Jasmine Yale looked up and stared coldly at the woman.
Earlier, she thought the woman seemed honest and sincere, but now she realized she had misjudged her.
The housekeeping lady was relentless, "Then you have to prove that you didn’t take Mr. Cheney’s things."
"Even if I were to prove it, it wouldn’t be to you."
This woman clearly couldn’t outtalk Jasmine Yale, so she just gave Jasmine a mocking look, mumbled something, and went into the bathroom to clean.
As she walked, she muttered unhappily under her breath, "Women like you are just with men for the money, pretending to be high and mighty, sneaking over alone, who knows what you’ve taken from Mr. Cheney. There’s a lot of valuable stuff here."
"Don’t mumble behind my back, say whatever you have to say openly!" Jasmine Yale was very displeased, "If you think I took something, call Sylvan Cheney, have him come himself!"
