Chapter 2253: Chapter 2253: Blown Away
The situation reported by the family members needs to be carefully distinguished by medical staff to prevent any accidents. The blood relationship mentioned by Xie Wanying outside just now indeed exists, and both obstetricians and neonatologists fully understand this. Thus, before any critical situation arises with the child, a group of medical staff is diligently assessing whether the father’s claims are true, whether there are any issues with the child, and seeking related evidence.
After carefully listening to the child’s lungs, Xie Wanying noted a sign of wet crackles in both lungs and asked, "Has the child been fed milk or water?"
The mother had a cesarean section, so she couldn’t personally feed the child in time. Little Sister Luo extracted milk to deliver it to the neonatal ward for the baby. With Little Sister Luo temporarily having no milk available, the neonatal medical staff could only provide baby formula.
Nearly twenty hours after birth, the child has had no difficulties breathing, and the condition doesn’t seem like it isn’t able to eat, suggesting that formula and water have likely been fed.
Doctor Wang and Doctor Peng hurriedly put on their stethoscopes again to conduct another examination of the patient upon hearing from her about the lung’s wet crackles. This time, they confirmed the abnormality just as Xie Wanying had mentioned. It indicates that the patient’s condition might be rapidly progressing, or else the symptoms would not have appeared in the current examination.
The two doctors were immensely anxious. The child’s time in the neonatal ward had been very brief; if it was said that the ward infection happened in such a short span, it would be truly baffling.
"Summon someone for inquiry. When did your department give milk and water to the child? Was there any choking on milk or water during feeding? Ask everything clearly," instructed Doctor Peng to Doctor Wang.
Doctor Wang doubted that her department’s medical staff could feed the child leading to choking in the lungs. The nurses here are of utmost professionalism; such fundamental novice errors are inconceivable. She, in turn, questioned Doctor Peng and their obstetrics team, "Are you sure the child did not aspirate amniotic fluid during birth?"
Obstetricians who manage the delivery can witness most distinctly whether the child aspirated any amniotic fluid.
Upon seeing suspicion cast upon him, Doctor Peng furiously retorted, "Yes, it was the director and me who delivered the birth. If the child had truly aspirated amniotic fluid, could the birth score reach ten? That ten wasn’t judged by us in obstetrics; it was determined by your department’s people."
Doctor Wang wasn’t the one on duty last night, so to inquire further she would need to ask the doctor on last night’s shift, implying that any responsibility might then belong to their neonatal staff for failing to timely spot the child’s amniotic fluid inhalation.
"Get a lung X-ray done. Determine whether it’s pneumonia," said Doctor Peng urgently, emphasizing the immediate priority to treat the child’s illness before pursuing accountability.
"It certainly is pneumonia," Doctor Wang said with a furrowed brow, the wet crackles evidently indicating pneumonia. The critical point now is understanding how the child contracted pneumonia. Otherwise, how to treat, while treating, does the infection keep persisting? Effective?"
"You’re suggesting it’s amniotic fluid aspiration, but I say impossible. I propose it’s milk choking, but you insist it’s impossible. Go and question your department’s people," maintained Doctor Peng with his standpoint, "Perhaps they accidentally caused the feeding issue?"
Listening to the two teachers’ dispute, Xie Wanying vividly remembered Hu Hao’s point about the child’s bloated belly. Her right-hand fingertips gently pressed the upper abdomen of the child, sensing possibly gas presence inside, igniting a flash of inspiration in her mind, saying, "Teachers, could it be a tracheoesophageal fistula causing this lung infection in the child?"
"What?" The two teachers were startled by her words.
