Chapter 366: Chapter 367 She Went Too Far

Christina’s POV

"Mrs. Laurent, my baby! Help my baby!" Genevieve sobbed, holding her stomach. She looked scared enough to fool anyone. Gwendolyn was upset. She patted Genevieve’s hand. "Don’t worry. I won’t let anything happen to that child." Genevieve nodded quickly and hid behind Gwendolyn. She was shaking. She wouldn’t look at Hudson. Gwendolyn faced Hudson, her face hard. "Won’t you let this child live?" Her voice was tight. Then she looked at me sharply. "Or does someone else object?" She sniffed with contempt. "You can’t give Hudson children. What right do you have to stop other women?" Oh, for God’s sake. I wanted to roll my eyes. I came here just to watch. I planned to stay quiet while Hudson showed the baby wasn’t his. But apparently, I was the villain in Gwendolyn’s drama. "Christina has nothing to do with this," Hudson said firmly. He smoothly pulled me to his side, putting his arm around me protectively. I leaned against his warm shoulder. He’s choosing me again. "Hudson!" Gwendolyn’s voice got shrill. "Will you really abandon your own child for this woman?" "I’m taking her with me today," Hudson said bluntly. "Don’t try to stop me." Gwendolyn stared at him. Her face went pale with anger and fear. Hudson frowned and nodded slightly to Harry. Harry moved to grab Genevieve, but a man’s voice from the stairs interrupted. "Stop!" Reginald Laurent stood there, staring at his son uneasily. Though clearly scared, he made himself speak. "Genevieve is pregnant with your child. You and Christina have been married so long without children. Maybe the problem is with her." He pointed at me. "Genevieve loves you enough to have this child without asking for anything." Oh, so now it’s my fault. Great. Hudson laughed coldly. "What she does is her choice. But why are you two involved?" Reginald and Gwendolyn looked at each other nervously. "Let me guess," Hudson continued scornfully. "You believed her story about the baby being mine. You’re counting on the fact that once it’s born, I wouldn’t abandon my own child. You wanted child support, maybe a trust fund. You probably hoped I’d ignore them both, so you could take the money while pretending to care for them." I thought about his words. It all made sense. Oh my God. That’s what this is about. It wasn’t just Genevieve wanting Hudson back. This was a plan. Gwendolyn had tried everything to hurt Hudson. When her plan to make Hudson marry someone she chose failed, she tried to get rid of me. All for money. Reginald always chose his wife over his son. After Edouard Laurent’s will left Reginald almost nothing, no wonder he resented Hudson. But I never expected them to work with Genevieve. And it wasn’t just about money. They wanted Hudson’s pack and everything he had. They tried to create an heir who could claim everything Hudson built. Reginald denied it weakly. "The child isn’t mine, if she’s even pregnant," Hudson said flatly. "If you want to keep her, keep her. You’ll pay for everything yourselves." His voice got low and dangerous. "But if she bothers me or Christina again, I won’t be so nice." His words were clearly a threat. Gwendolyn seemed confused by Hudson’s certainty. She hesitated, suddenly uncertain. Sensing the change, Genevieve grabbed Gwendolyn’s leg desperately. "Mrs. Laurent, you must believe me! This is Hudson’s baby! He’s only saying this because he doesn’t want you to keep me and the baby. Please, you must believe me!" Gwendolyn hesitated. She looked between them, completely confused about who to believe. Finally, Reginald ended the standoff. "Enough. True or not, we’ll know in a few months when she’s far enough along for a DNA test. No point arguing now. If it’s Hudson’s, we’ll help raise the child. If not..." He didn’t finish, but the threat was clear. Genevieve shook. Hudson snorted. "Fine. Congratulations on your grandchild who isn’t related to you." He turned to me. "Let’s go." Once we were outside, I felt relieved. The driver started the car and we left the old Laurent estate. Hudson, wearing a Bluetooth headset, gave orders. "Have people check all the major hospitals and private clinics in and around Highrise City. Find out if Genevieve has been to any for pregnancy treatment or tests." After he hung up, I turned to him. "You don’t think she’s really pregnant?" Hudson nodded. "The timing is too convenient." "But Gwendolyn and your father aren’t so stupid that they can’t tell if she’s faking pregnancy," I said. Hudson snorted. "You might be surprised. But it doesn’t matter if she’s pregnant. What I know for sure is she can’t be pregnant with my child." He looked at me. "Do you believe me?" I nodded. "Of course." I paused, then asked what had been bothering me for weeks. "Why did you protect her so long?" Hudson was quiet. He looked out the window, his jaw clenched. "Her brother," he said finally. "He died saving my life." I blinked. I didn’t expect that. "He was their only son. Their only hope." Hudson’s voice was quiet and sad. "Before he died, he made me promise to protect his sister and mother. He was a good man." Oh. I didn’t know what to say. I took his hand. "I kept my promise for years," Hudson said. "But she went too far. She didn’t just target me. She targeted you. She tried to hurt you and our child." His hand squeezed mine. "I can honor my friend without letting his sister destroy our lives." I squeezed his hand. "I understand." And I did understand. Hudson wasn’t protecting Genevieve now. He chose me. He chose us. As long as Genevieve left us alone, we’d be fine and happy.
