Chapter 26: Tower of Souls

⟨Level 1 Tower of Souls⟩ freewebnoveℓ.com

Can refine the bodies of Nightmare creatures to obtain special resources.

Cost: 25 Nightmare Stones.

---

Since the very first day Edgar transmigrated to this world, he had been interested in this.

Unlike all the other blueprints he had, this was the most mysterious and unique.

It was something that Edgar couldn’t form a picture of in his mind. He had no idea what a ⟨Tower of Souls⟩ would look like.

’Well, it’s time to find out.’

Taking a few steps back, Edgar looked around the fortress. Because of so many new things, the place had become kind of congested.

After making an outline of what he needed in his mind, Edgar walked towards the northern wall and decided to create the tower there.

After choosing the location, Edgar didn’t hesitate any longer.

Twenty-five Nightmare Stones floated into the air.

Cracks rapidly spread across their surfaces.

The familiar milky-white liquid poured out and surged toward the northern section of the fortress.

The white liquid gathered together and began sinking into the earth.

Unlike the fortress wall or chicken coop, nothing appeared immediately.

Instead, the ground began to change from the inside.

A circular platform roughly three meters wide slowly emerged from below.

Dark stone unlike anything Edgar had seen before pushed through the soil.

The stone absorbed light itself, as if it were made from the blackest thing in the world.

The moment the foundation was completed, dozens of strange symbols lit up across its surface.

Edgar frowned as he wasn’t able to understand the meaning behind them.

’Even though I can’t understand them, I feel uncomfortable just by looking at them.’

The next moment, pillars erupted upward from the foundation.

Unlike normal architecture, the pillars twisted as they rose.

They resembled a densely packed ribcage.

The structure continued climbing until it finally stopped at nearly eight meters tall.

Eventually, the bones connected near the top, forming a narrow tower.

The completed structure looked nothing like he had expected.

The tower was slender and dark, with countless faintly glowing signs covering its surface.

Near the top were dozens of hollow openings. They resembled empty eye sockets watching the world below.

At the base of the tower stood a massive stone archway, and beyond it was complete utter darkness.

No matter how hard Edgar looked, he couldn’t see what lay inside.

A system prompt grabbed his attention.

Old man Oswald slowly walked closer and looked at the horrifying tower.

"...Young master." he whispered, pointing at the strange signs. "...How can you use runes?"

’Runes?’ Edgar tilted his head in confusion.

Noticing his probing look, Oswald shook his head.

"I don’t know much about them. I have only seen your mother use them before."

Edgar nodded absentmindedly and walked closer to the tower.

The closer he got, the colder the surrounding air became.

The darkness beyond the archway seemed to move.

Another system text appeared in front of him.

Edgar thought for a few seconds before picking up a corpse from the pile.

The moment he pushed it toward the entrance, something unexpected happened.

Countless black threads emerged from the darkness and wrapped around it.

The corpse was dragged inward, vanishing into the darkness.

Andrew, who was curiously standing beside the tower, ran away like a frightened cat.

Edgar ignored him and shoved another corpse inside.

The same thing happened once again.

Without wasting any more time, Edgar picked up more and more corpses and began feeding the tower.

Even though frightened, Andrew also began to help him, and so did the old man.

The moment the final corpse vanished, the entire structure shook.

All the runes engraved on the tower lit up in bright red hue.

’Hm, I need to wait for seven hours?’

Edgar rubbed his temples and decided to leave the tower alone.

He looked at young Andrew and ordered, "Stop bringing in more corpses."

The young boy nodded without question.

"Alright."

Edgar thought for a few minutes and decided to do the rituals related to all the Shards and Materials he had.

’Of course, I cannot do some rituals, but most of them I can do right now.’

Edgar currently had one complete ⟨Boniface Nightmare’s Bone⟩ that he had yet to use.

It could increase endurance and healing, and he needed to burn it in the Unbroken Fire for a day.

Edgar looked at Andrew and ordered, "Can you find me some dandelion leaves?"

"Alright."

Young Andrew quickly walked out of the fortress to find some.

Edgar also walked out and found a huge boulder just a few meters away.

He dug a small hole under it and buried the ⟨Stonehide Colossus⟩ Shard beneath it.

"Young master!" Andrew yelled from afar. "I found them!"

He quickly ran towards Edgar with a handful of dandelion leaves in his hand.

"Thanks." Edgar said, walking back inside the fortress.

He found a container and put the leaves in with some water and salt, mixing everything thoroughly.

After that, he submerged the Elder Tortoise Shard in it and put it aside for six days.

"Hah."

Edgar rubbed his eyes after completing the task.

"You should sleep, young master." Andrew suggested with concern in his voice. "You stayed up all night yesterday."

He nodded his head.

"Maybe I should..."

The blonde boy quickly reached his house and lay down on the bed.

’...I need to increase the quality of all the houses in my fortress.’

Thinking about his next plans, Edgar fell into unconsciousness.

He had a dreamless sleep.

---

Exactly seven hours after Edgar fell asleep, a system prompt woke him up.

Rubbing his eyes, Edgar looked at the message in front of him.

⟨Refinement Process Complete⟩

He woke up startled, feeling a strange excitement from the bottom of his soul.

’What will the product be?’

He quickly walked out of his house and headed toward the ⟨Tower of Souls⟩.
