Chapter 22: Success

"Haha."

A laugh of disbelief escaped Edgar’s lips as he looked at the new addition to his system screen.

"...So, it is possible."

His voice, brimming with happiness and anticipation, echoed in his room.

"HELL YEAH!!"

His triumphant shout echoed throughout the small house.

"I WILL BE THE FUCKING EINSTEIN OF THIS WORLD?!"

Edgar drew in a deep breath and got a hold of his feelings.

After stabilizing his condition, he observed the newly created blueprint.

’Hm, unlike the previous one, not only can I use Nightmare Stones, I can also use materials to create a coop.’

It might not sound important, but for someone like him who was in constant need of Nightmare Stones, it could be really helpful.

’Materials are abundant, but Nightmare Stones are not.’

His gaze then shifted towards the completion rate above.

’Perhaps this is the flaw of the blueprints I create. There is a chance of them failing.’

Edgar tapped his fingers on the parchment as he looked over it again.

Like every other blueprint, it also started at Level One or White Grade.

To make the most perfect coop, he would still have to use Nightmare Stones to upgrade it.

’Or maybe, I can create a better coop and it will have a higher grade.’

The possibilities that had opened in front of him were endless.

Without thinking, he stood up and walked out of his room.

Andrew, who was brushing the horse, and Oswald, who was feeding the chickens, both turned to give him curious looks.

His loud celebration hadn’t gone unnoticed by them.

Edgar ignored them and found an empty place close to the ⟨Watch Tower⟩.

The light swept through the Unbroken Fire and gently illuminated the place.

Taking out three Nightmare Stones, Edgar cracked them and willed the system to create a chicken coop.

The milky-white liquid flowed from between his fingers and rose into the air.

Like silk threads woven by an invisible hand, they intertwined and began constructing something in midair.

It stretched and bent in the air, taking different shapes before a structure gradually became solid.

Eventually, the glowing light faded completely and a small wooden building landed on the ground.

The newly created structure stood roughly two meters tall.

It had everything that he envisioned, from a high raised floor to ventilation openings.

Old man Oswald slowly approached the wooden coop and touched it with his own hand.

Facing Edgar, he asked, "Did you find a blueprint in the Bazaar?"

"I created it." Edgar replied without bothering to hide it.

In the coming days, he was going to create a lot of things. Hiding it now would only make things difficult.

For once, the old butler couldn’t find the proper words.

"Y-Young Master..."

Oswald stared at the wooden coop as though it were some miracle.

His wrinkled hand remained pressed against the wall.

He truly had no words that could relay his astonishment.

It was well known that Builders could only use blueprints obtained from Nightmares to create things.

A person who could create blueprints was unheard of!!

Edgar didn’t explain much. He looked up where only a small amount of murky fog remained.

"The Eternal Night will be here soon." He said calmly. "Put the chickens in the coop and be ready."

"Y-yes."

Still shocked, the old man stammered in reply.

Still dazed, Oswald hurried toward the cages.

The young boy Andrew kept glancing between Edgar and the newly created coop as if trying to convince himself that it was real.

Eventually, the two of them moved the chickens and roosters into their new home.

The moment the birds were released inside, they immediately began exploring.

The blonde looked up at the endless sea of darkness.

The familiar feeling of uneasiness and pressure settled over the fortress.

The Eternal Night had arrived.

And with it came the countless Nightmare Beasts that quickly gathered around the fortress.

’Seriously, where do they come from?’

The Level 3 ⟨Watch Tower⟩ quickly began killing the monsters around the fortress.

The Level 2 ⟨Watch Tower⟩ wasn’t far behind. Aiming the crossbow, it began targeting smaller Nightmares.

Edgar walked up the staircase of his Level 3 ⟨Watch Tower⟩ and looked around.

The darkness had swallowed almost everything, but the light of the Unbroken Fire helped him catch glimpses of monsters.

’Do they simply spawn?’

Leaning over the railing, Edgar had a ridiculous thought.

’...No, that would be stupid. But then again... this is a stupid world.’

He let out a deep sigh and took out the jade from his pocket.

Its emerald colour was barely visible in the darkness.

’If I want to become strong, I need to take risks.’ freёwebnovel.com

Edgar thought, clenching his hand around the jade.

He walked down and found Oswald looking into the darkness.

"Uncle, when will the next full moon be?" He asked curiously.

The old man racked his brain before replying, "Perhaps in a week, young master."

’I still have some time.’

Edgar nodded without explaining further.

"Young master...." freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

A voice echoed from beside him and Edgar looked at Andrew.

The young boy was pointing into the darkness as he whispered, "W-what is that?"

Edgar turned his head to look into the endless darkness, but instead he noticed a small fire....

It was far away, yet it was clear to them, the fire steadily growing larger....

Edgar’s face immediately grew serious.

"Hide!!" he yelled. "It’s a projectile!!"

The moment the words left his mouth, he grabbed Andrew by the shoulder and threw both of them behind the stone base of the Watch Tower.

Oswald reacted instantly as well.

Years of experience in the Eternal Night had sharpened his instincts.

The old man dove behind a nearby wall without asking a single question.

The tiny flame in the distance rapidly grew larger.

What had seemed like a harmless speck moments ago suddenly became a blazing streak tearing through the darkness.

The projectile crossed hundreds of meters in mere seconds.

BOOMM!!!

A deafening explosion erupted outside the fortress walls.

Chunks of earth and stone were launched into the air, and the shockwave rattled the entire fortress.

Edgar quickly peeked out from behind the stone base.

The Nightmares around the impact site had all been obliterated, leaving behind chunks of Nightmare Stones.

Another speck of fire slowly lit up far in the darkness.
