Chapter 1812: Chapter 1811 - Pelia’s Choice
A figure was training in an open courtyard. Her moves were smooth but sometimes, there seemed to be a hitch as she switched from upper to lower body workouts. For such perfect use of her limbs, it was odd there was an issue switching between them.
Her hair, once very dark, had lightened considerably. Her bright green eyes also had dimmed in a few months to a much darker shade. They were closer to cream now. Her previously imbalance bestial features had been smoothed out a bit.
Pelia was practicing the Body Refining skills Lord Lind Frey had given her. She had been diligent as she was confined to the courtyard in the Blessed Crimson Range for the moment.
She had been given the courtyard, with many buildings attached, to do as she wished. Lord Frey wanted her to cultivate for her safety. While she was currently protected by the pack bond, even he was uncertain of its limit in the wild.
A surge of ordinary Divine Qi could kill her before she even took a breath if she was not careful. Such a scenario was too real as she recalled the many horrific missions her body had gone on.
The servants did not treat her as an ant as she had also seen on many missions. Instead they called her ’lady’ or ’mistress’ which she found distressing. She was just a simple farm girl!
The one companion she looked forward to came through the large door to the hallway like a boulder. The dark blue was always pleasant to look at as Ryl slowed down and wagged his tail in anticipation.
She smiled as she finished her sequence and then waved him over. He nuzzled her gently. He was so much taller and more powerful than her yet he was so kind.
She wished she could hear his voice like Lord Frey could but she knew he understood her. He always came at about lunch time and the servants smiled at his antics but he was very good.
He would eat without making a mess and then it came time for play. Pelia could not do fantastical things but she could toss the strange disc Lord Frey made for her.
It was curled at the edges and not flat either. It could fly very far if she put even her mortal strength into it. Ryl loved chasing it and bringing it back.
She could never exhaust him, but that was not the point. Lord Frey said Ryl just wanted to be with his pack sister. Ryl had been alone and while he clearly adored his packleader, the Dusk Grypwolf had been lonely.
Pelia was glad. She felt soothed with Ryl and while she could blame the pack bond, she instead was reminded of her little brother. He always wanted to be with her or follow their parents around.
It did not matter what they were doing, he just wanted to be with them. Ryl was the same. She looked forward to these times.
They had just finished the 10th go around when a giggle drew her eyes. She saw Lady Lysanna standing in the doorway. Her gentle features reflected in her eyes. Ryl wagged his tail hard and took the disc to her.
Lysanna patted his head and looked at the disc with nostalgia.
"Lind made this when the kids were on the way. He insisted on so many toys but this one they loved a lot." Pelia was surprised and touched. Lord Frey had made the disc for his children and he made that one for her. "Let’s see how good you are, Ryl." freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
The Immortal smiled and her aura rose. The disc was not an artifact but the way it worked was clear after using it for so long. The spin of the disc pulled air in and the flow of it could cause it to float or fly farther depending on angle, speed, and strength.
Lysanna clearly added some cultivation power to her throw as the disc flew far off into the distance! Ryl took off but hopped onto the roof without damaging it before taking off into the horizon!
Pelia laughed loudly. He was clearly excited! She had felt it clearly that time!
Lysanna stood next to her quietly but Pelia finally noticed the servants were all gone and a barrier was shimmering.
"My Lady–" Lysanna held up her delicate hands. She was like creamy jade under the sun in her crimson robes. Pelia found all Lord Frey’s wives beautiful. She also felt the warmth from all of them.
They were not pitying her at all. They were letting her heal and giving her space. It seemed something had changed.
"Lind is coming back with the others. I know him and love him deeply, but he forgets how fleeting a mortal life can be despite treasuring them. It happens to us. Time loses its importance to us. A moment of thought could be decades to mortals." The words were serious and Pelia understood what she was saying.
"Lord Frey would let me live out my days without asking me to do anything. He won’t push me either. You are saying he will forget about me?" Pelia felt a tremor of fear. After all the kindness, she did not want to be forgotten!
A gentle pair of arms pulled her in and she calmed down.
"Not forget, just wait too long. No matter how you appear, there is a shorter window for you to truly start cultivating. The healers have told me you are struggling with Body Refining. We both know why." Pelia flinched but then nodded.
"My body is wrong. It has been altered and while healed, it is not working the way it should." Lysanna gripped her tighter and she felt a wetness on top of her head. Lady Lysanna was crying!
"There are things Lind can do but he would never push them on you. I love the man but he can be mightily tunnel visioned about personal choice. He refuses to impose even if it should be done unless someone crosses his bottomline." Pelia then understood.
By the time Lord Frey would worry, it would already be too late. Her life would be coming to an end or she could only start Body Refining with limited success. If she wanted to still be in prime condition to truly begin, she had to accept a painful process.
Her body had to be altered again. She could never be human. Lord Lind had already told her it would kill her to try. So the only way forward would be to find a compatible bloodline and truly merge her body with it to achieve harmony.
There were risks but no more than trying to force her way forward with cultivation. The possibility of deviation was extremely high per Lord Frey as well.
The fact her meridians were not destroyed was likely more so she could be used like a thrall than anything intentional on the part of her kidnappers. It also meant that was the limit. So long as she could be used, they discarded any other concerns.
The hitch in her current cultivation was due to the missing dantian that had been forced on her. It had acted as a bridge for the flow of Qi and now that it was gone, there was a disconnect between her upper and lower body.
Lady Lysanna was doing what Lord Frey would not. She was pushing her.
Pelia pulled back and calmed down. She saw tears still in Lady Lysanna’s eyes. The care was so powerful and she wished her family could know she had survived and was safe.
Lord Frey had generously set people to try and find where she came from. It was nearly impossible normally but the tragic set of events would narrow down the field.
Pelia also knew why Lady Lysanna had sent the disc so far away. Ryl would have reacted badly to her being pushed. He was very protective of her.
Lord Lind and Ryl had become her shield but she had to stand on her own. She did not want to die before seeing those that had killed her family pay!
That thought made the choice for her. She knew Lady Qing would reprimand her for such a dark thought, but so long as she worked through it, she would avoid a heart demon.
She looked at the peaceful courtyard and knew it would become the beginning of her new journey.
"Lady Lysanna, I want to grow stronger! I want to live!" The words felt like a sword slicing through chains. The murky future now was lit up and she took a deep breath that felt like her first real breath since she awoke.
Lady Lysanna was smiling at her but no further words were needed. She was curious about something though.
"Lady Lysanna, why now?" It had been months yet no one had confronted her or even hinted at it. The woman seemed to contemplate before sighing.
"I am something of an expert when it comes to personnel. I have been in charge of some of the most critical support systems for a sect, an empire, and now the Blessed Crimson Range. Lind was never going to hold back against this new foe, but now that it is over, he will go back to pursuing his next Master Tier layer." Pelia nodded as that all made sense but then her eyes went wide.
"His cultivation session–" Lady Lysanna nodded.
"You may not be aware of it, but all my experience tells me you want to not be a nuisance and to wait for Lind to be available but you do not understand how long that could be." Pelia realized that the wives would have come but if Lord Lind was cultivating, she would have put it off!
Lady Lysanna had read her like a book! She felt touched as the lady had not hidden it from her. It showed she trusted Pelia to handle it.
The pair then turned as a blur solidified in a wagging Ryl. He was covered in leaves, branches, and seemed to have picked up a squirrel somewhere but he had the disc in his mouth.
Neither could resist the laughter that bubbled up. Ryl tilted his head but the good energy made him happy as he put the disc down and shook his body to free it from the debris.
Pelia felt free and knew she would struggle in the days ahead but that felt good. She was finally moving forward!
