Chapter 86: Are You Challenging My Authority Right Now?

"Not yet. I want to see what kind of person he is first." Veronica didn’t want to invite a bomb to her faction.

Sure, someone like him was extremely hard to find, but in her eyes, her organization was more important.

Ravenna agreed with her decision, as Veronica also needed to think about all her subordinates.

While they were talking about him, far in the outdoor section of a coffee shop, Ren was talking with Sylvie.

Elara was playing with Luna, so she was not with them.

"Mrs Sylvie, are you an awakener?" he had no information about this in his predecessor’s memories.

"Yes." She was startled by his question, but still gave an honest answer.

"Are you a mage or a shifter?" he threw another question at her.

"A mage." She replied. "But I haven’t been active for a few years. Why do you suddenly want to know about this?"

A spark of happiness emerged within him. "I have a crazy idea of combining innate ability with magic, but I don’t know where to start."

He then continued, "If you know a lightning mage with deep knowledge, please tell me. I want to hire that person to help me create my own skills."

"You really have a wild idea, Ren." She had never expected him to come up with such an idea.

"Well, I’m both a mage and a shifter. It would be a shame if I didn’t use my uniqueness to create something that could help me defeat my enemies easier and faster." He believed that combining the two would create something terrifying.

Maybe he could defeat someone above his rank if he succeeded in creating his own skills.

"Wait! Let me think." Sylvie touched her chin as she began to remember all the lightning mages she knew.

A moment later, one person came to her mind.

"I know the best person to teach you. Her name is Veronica. She has deep knowledge of crystal, lightning, and wood elements." She didn’t explain further as it was better for them to know each other directly. freewёbnoνel.com

"Great!" he almost could not suppress the happiness within him.

"I will call her tomorrow morning and inform you after that." It was already 09:30 pm, so she chose not to bother Veronica.

"Thank you, Mrs Sylvie." He expressed his gratitude.

’I hope she can help me create my own skills.’ freёwebnovel.com

He suddenly could not wait to meet Veronica.

The following morning, Ren and Elara helped Sylvie in her coffee shop.

At first, they wanted to go straight to the Aether Organization, but they changed their minds when they saw the employees were overwhelmed by the number of customers.

While they were busy serving the customers, Veronica was talking with Ryven and Maldris in her office.

Her expression turned cold the moment she found out that Ryven went to the Aether Organization without her permission.

Sure, the relationship between the two factions had been at odds, but that didn’t mean he could do whatever he wanted.

It was as if her authority meant nothing to him.

"It’s your fault. Blame yourself for it." Veronica refused to help Ryven.

"Leader, please help me," Ryven pleaded. "Only you can get them to return my space ring."

"Leader, Ryven has been teaching in this organization for ten years. Don’t you think your decision is too much?" Maldris tried to change her mind.

Veronica’s anger instantly grew bigger. "Elder Maldris, none of this would have happened if it weren’t for you. Do you think you are great just because you are the first elder?"

She then continued, "Look at your actions now! He lost his space ring. You should have helped him earn money by now, not come to ask for my help."

Maldris clenched his fists in displeasure, but he didn’t dare to talk back to her.

"Ryven, no payment for you this month. And you, Elder Maldris, you won’t be paid for the next three months. You are also not allowed to enter the sacred library for six months." Veronica decided to punish them so that they would never make the same mistake.

Maldris could not accept it. "But leader, I didn-"

Before he had finished his words, he was interrupted by her. "Elder Maldris, are you challenging my authority right now?"

The air in the office suddenly turned heavy.

"N-no, leader." Elder Maldris lowered his gaze.

"You two can leave now." Veronica didn’t want to see their faces any longer, as it would make her angrier.

Both Elder Maldris and Ryven immediately walked out of her office.

"Leader, you should have punished them more severely." Ravenna, who was standing next to Veronica, spoke abruptly.

"Let’s not talk about them anymore." Veronica suddenly remembered something. "Where is the profile document for the winner of the new recruitment tournament that I asked you for?"

Unlike the Aether Organization, they held a tournament two days after recruiting new members.

They did this to determine who among them deserved more support.

Ravenna retrieved a document from her space ring and handed it to her. "Here, Leader."

Veronica quickly read it. "Crystal element?"

"Yes, Leader. She has the same element as you." Ravenna replied.

"How was her performance in the tournament?" Veronica asked.

"Impressive, leader." Ravenna answered, "She won first place without any difficulty."

"Without any trouble?" Veronica was a little surprised. "Is she that strong, or are the others just weak?"

"The others aren’t weak, Leader. She’s just on another level." Ravenna watched the tournament, so she knew how strong Alice was.

"I see." Veronica suddenly recalled Ren. "Yet someone like her still lost to Ren."

"Well, Ren is a monster, so it’s normal," Ravenna admitted that Alice was powerful, but Ren was on an entirely different level.

"Bring Alice here." Veronica wanted to give her an extra bonus for her talent and achievements.

"Understood, Leader." Ravenna immediately left Veronica’s office.

A few minutes later, she returned with Alice.

Alice’s feelings were filled with nervousness as she walked toward Veronica. Ravenna had explained nothing, so she didn’t know the reason why Veronica had summoned her.

’Is it because we went to the Aether Organization?’

The nervousness within her grew bigger.

’But I had no other choice.’

She believed Elder Maldris would make her life difficult if she dared to refuse his order.

’Should I just tell her that it was an order from the First Elder?’

At this moment, she wavered on whether she should reveal the truth or not, because either choice would not end well for her.

Once they stood before her, Veronica’s lips curled up into a smile.

"Don’t worry. I called you here not to punish you." Veronica could tell what Alice was feeling, since it was written all over her face.

Alice let out a sigh of relief. "May I know why you summoned me, Leader?"

"I heard about your outstanding performance in the New Recruit Tournament, so I want to give you an extra bonus," Veronica explained.

Alice’s eyes widened for a moment.

’An extra bonus?’

Her heart suddenly leaped up with joy.

"Since your element is the same as mine, I will give you two choices: take two copies of basic-rank spell books from the library, or study under me for a month," Veronica said. "Which one do you choose?"

"I choose the second choice," Alice answered instantly.

Even though the first choice was so tempting, its value was nothing compared to studying under her.

Veronica’s lips curled up into a smile. "If you meet my standards during your time learning from me, I will take you as my disciple."

Both Ravenna and Alice were stunned.

When she came to her senses, Alice immediately replied, "I will do my best."

She would not waste this golden opportunity, as it was the fastest way to grow stronger.

Veronica liked her spirit. "You fought Ren in yesterday’s sparring, right? What do you think of him?"

"Monster." Alice had faced many people before, but none of them as strong as him.

She even could not defeat him when he was not serious. She assumed it would take at least three of her to win against him.

"Monster, huh?" Veronica didn’t expect her to answer like that. "Alright. You can leave now."

Alice bowed her head slightly before finally walking out of her office.

Once Alice left, Ravenna asked, "Leader, are you really going to take her as your disciple if she meets your standards?"

"Yes." Veronica didn’t give her false hope. "Someone as talented as her deserves a chance. Who knows? She might become the pillar of our organization in the future."

Ravenna didn’t say anything anymore.

"Ravenna, let’s go to th-" Veronica stopped her words halfway when her smartphone suddenly rang. "Oh! A call from Sylvie?"

She quickly picked up the phone.

"Hello, Veronica. How are you?" Sylvie said.

"I’m good," Veronica replied. "It’s been a while since you last called me. What’s wrong? Do you need any help?"

"Not me. One of my tenants is looking for a lightning mage to help him understand magic more deeply." Sylvie didn’t tell Veronica it was Ren. "Can you teach him? Don’t worry. He said he will pay you handsomely later."

"Sure." Veronica accepted instantly since it was a request from a friend.

"Good!" Sylvie smiled happily. "So, when can we meet?"

"How about at 04:00 pm?" Veronica was quite busy, so she could not meet Sylvie right away.

"Alright." Sylvie agreed. "How about we meet at my coffee shop?"

"Sure," Veronica replied.

Then, they talked about a few things.

Five minutes later, Sylvie hung up the phone.

"Ren, your teacher will come here at 04:00 pm. Make sure you don’t be late." Sylvie said.

Ren, who was making a coffee, replied. "Alright."
