Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Cracking the Case
The structure of the Investigation Corps’ division is divided into training camps and the logistics area.
The interrogation teams of each detachment are actually close to each other, all located within the logistics area.
So once an interrogation team starts making a big commotion, the other teams follow suit.
Outside the interrogation room of Squad Seven, a bunch of suspects were lined up.
Liu Mu, who had just completed a mission, looked at this scene, not knowing what the interrogation team of Squad Seven was up to.
"What’s this about?" Liu Mu happened to see Tian Xun outside the queue.
"Handling a case, Laoda asked for it to be wrapped up," Tian Xun said with a wry smile.
"What’s the situation? Did a large-scale brawl break out on the lower levels?" Liu Mu looked at the people in line, but they didn’t quite fit the profile.
Young people, middle-aged men, women, and even the disabled were all present; the group’s demographic was quite broad indeed. freёwebnoѵel.com
Tian Xun actually had no idea what Bai Wu was planning, so he pondered before speaking:
"No, these are suspects from backed-up cases, all called in. It seems... like they want to wrap up all the cases at once?"
"Wrap up everything at once? Ridiculous! Is Wu Jiu cracking the cases? That kid has too much free time on his hands."
Liu Mu shook his head and returned to Squad Seven as if watching a comedy.
As team leader, their duty wasn’t just to head out of the tower; they also needed to periodically check in with the interrogation team to see what was happening on the lower levels recently.
Tian Xun looked around; it seemed that the interrogation team had never been this busy before.
Colleagues from other detachments were all curious about what was going on.
...
...
Inside the interrogation room, Bai Wu began questioning the suspects one by one.
Although Yun Shu and Xue Ci knew that Bai Wu was formidable in counter-interrogations, they did not hold much hope for him.
Because these prisoners had been through one round of interrogation, they were on their second visit.
However, Bai Wu didn’t allow anyone to listen in, so Yun Shu and Xue Ci waited outside, unaware of what was happening during the interrogation.
The Investigation Corps’ interrogation rooms had surveillance cameras, but the content of the interrogations couldn’t be heard.
Tian Xun, Xue Ci, and Yun Shu all watched the footage, curious about what Bai Wu was going to do.
"It looks like they’re talking... I remember this prisoner a bit, she’s pretty odd. This woman doesn’t look like she belongs on the lower levels, she’s too refined," Tian Xun said.
Tian Xun remembered this was a murder case.
The victim was the suspect’s husband, and both were from the lower levels, but the wife seemed... very refined, as though she came from the third level.
Under Wu Jiu’s investigation, it turned out that the woman had an affair with another man and didn’t have a good relationship with her husband.
It was as if a Bootlicker had spent all his effort to win over a goddess, got married, but their marriage was in name only.
So Wu Jiu was highly suspicious of this woman, yet he couldn’t find any evidence.
...
...
Inside the interrogation room.
Bai Wu looked at the woman and ascertained something at first glance.
Prayle’s Eye always provided notes that were adjusted according to the situation.
For instance, the last time he had seen Yun Shu and Xue Ci, the notes mentioned a strange and stable love triangle.
This time, when he saw Yun Shu, the content of the notes changed to: [A negligible little fangirl, good for nothing but running errands. You want her to use her brain? Look at the weighty matter on her chest, will you?]
In other words: It’s just a girl with a big bust, useless in solving the case for me.
As for the suspect, Prayle’s Eye provided information related to the case:
[A group-buying socialite who, despite being from the lower levels, insists on acting like a noble lady from the third level, mingling with the management of the casinos. She competes daily for all sorts of luxury goods, has no savings to speak of, but that doesn’t stop her from looking down on her honest, hard-working miner husband. She’s not the murderer but an accomplice. It would be wise to have the little fangirl summon the casino manager from Fallen Street.]
Bai Wu had a good idea of the crux of the case.
In short, it was a conspiracy with a lover to kill her own husband for money, seeing as her reputation demanded it.
After a conversation, Bai Wu got the name of the casino manager and had Yun Shu go arrest him.
The following events were simple enough.
Once they had the casino manager, Bai Wu could get new notes from him.
By using prisoner’s dilemma and sharing information that only the true perpetrator and accomplice would know, their trust quickly eroded.
He began reviewing the next case.
The second case was resolved quickly because it lacked evidence, namely the murder weapon. Prayle’s Eye directly revealed its location.
So he summoned Yun Shu... well, okay, the big-busted errand runner was in the middle of a task, so he had Xue Ci go help.
Then Bai Wu started on the third case.
The fourth. freewebnøvel.com
The fifth.
Initially, members of the various interrogation groups of the Investigation Corps didn’t know what Team Seven interrogation group was planning to do.
But with Bai Wu’s unusually rapid case-solving pace, Team Seven interrogation group ran out of errand runners, so they began to borrow from other teams.
Naturally, the errand runners started to realize that these cases, which had been piling up for a while, suddenly had significant leads or were even being solved in succession.
In the interrogation rooms, its members worked like they knew the criminal scripts by heart, with astounding efficiency, pinpointing all kinds of evidence with incredible accuracy.
...
...
Nine hundred meters above, ceiling lights turned a warm yellow, simulating the onset of dusk.
The cases and files piled up before Bai Wu grew fewer and fewer.
The number of completed case reports increased.
From Team Seven’s initial involvement, and later due to the need to apprehend many related persons, Team Three, Team Eleven, Team Nine, and Liu Mu’s Team Thirteen began providing personnel.
They couldn’t see the interrogation room footage, because Tian Xun had a sudden stroke of insight.
When Bai Wu solved three cases in a row, Tian Xun had a premonition that this lad might truly be capable of the miraculous feat of solving a hundred cases in a single day...
Considering the character of Liu Mu of Team Thirteen and the other squad leaders who liked to poach talent, Tian Xun shrewdly turned off the monitors.
Thus, no one knew what was happening inside the interrogation rooms; they only speculated that Team Seven had acquired an extraordinary case-solving expert.
When Liu Mu’s personnel also began to run errands, he suddenly remembered...
The day before yesterday, Little Dwarf Wu Jiu had found a treasure of a newbie!
That chap named Bai Wu!
Indeed, Liu Mu knew the level of Team Seven’s interrogation group; if it had been possible to close those long-standing cases, they would have closed them long ago. Without external help, how could they be closing cases non-stop like a machine gun?
A torrent of annoyance surged forth, and Liu Mu slapped his thigh, suddenly filled with frustration!
Why is my squad numbered Thirteen?
He still remembered Bai Wu’s reason for refusing to join Team Thirteen: that the number thirteen was unlucky!
...
...
When night fell.
Normally, the interrogation groups would finish work at seven, but today, the Investigation Corps branch with six teams’ interrogation groups all started working overtime.
Only today’s enthusiasm for overtime was much higher than usual.
Unlike other groups, the interrogation groups needed to submit a certain number of case closure reports every month to receive supplies from the higher-ups.
Before Wu Jiu took charge, the commanders of the Investigation Corps could still fudge some false reports, but no one dared to do so after Wu Jiu became the commander.
Because Little Dwarf Wu Jiu couldn’t tolerate any injustice; if he was a killer outside the Tower, he was equally iron-blooded within the Tower.
As a result, many cases couldn’t be closed without uncovering the truth, leading to a large accumulation of files.
Not just Team Seven, every team was the same.
So, supplies rewards from the higher-ups had not been distributed for a long time.
Today, after resolving all of Team Seven’s cases, Bai Wu thought it over and decided that since he was idle anyway, he might as well resolve all the cases in the Investigation Corps.
For Bai Wu, these cases gave him a more realistic view of life inside the High Tower.
As someone who didn’t inherit the original host’s memories, this was also his way of catching up.
Bai Wu found great pleasure and delight in solving cases.
And for the members of the interrogation groups who had not received supplies from the higher-ups for a long time and had to scrounge by with external mission resources, it was a cause for celebration.
Compared to the joy of other teams, Team Seven’s reaction was more shock than happiness.
Yun Shu couldn’t believe that a workload supposedly lasting over seven days... this individual had solved in a day.
Tian Xun, on the other hand, worried that Bai Wu was showing too much sharpness.
"Yun Shu, go call Xue Ci and Old Tian here. I have some things I need to remind you of," he instructed.
Of course, Bai Wu knew that doing something too extravagantly could cause unnecessary troubles, but he had already prepared himself.

As I took a recommendation ticket and looked at this book, the following note popped up:
[A plain recommendation ticket, keeping it in your pocket won’t accrue interest, and it will regenerate after twelve o’clock. I suggest you feed it to this pitiable little author, maybe he will write an even better story.]
