Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Hubby, Come Pick Me Up
"Don’t change the subject. Give me your phone."
Damian Morgan wanted to check her phone himself to make sure she didn’t have any backups.
Sophie Shaw instinctively backed away.
She retreated to the entrance of the police station. She figured that no matter how brazen Damian Morgan was, he wouldn’t dare do anything to her right under the noses of the police. She pulled her phone from her pocket and saw a reply from Alaric Blackwood on WeChat.
「Where are you?」
She sent Alaric Blackwood her location directly, then followed up with a voice message.
"Honey, come pick me up."
On the other end of the line, Alaric Blackwood had just finished a business dinner. After listening to Sophie Shaw’s voice message, he immediately had the driver turn the car around and race to the police station.
Sophie Shaw and Damian Morgan remained at a stalemate. Her back was pressed against the glass door of the station. If Damian dared to come any closer, she would immediately run inside and seek protection from the police.
"You won’t let me check your phone. Do you have a backup?"
She smiled at Damian Morgan. "Guess."
"Sophie Shaw!"
Damian Morgan gritted his teeth and took a step forward. Sophie immediately spun around, pushed open the station door, and ran toward a policewoman.
She ran behind the policewoman and watched Damian Morgan warily.
The policewoman noticed her tense expression, followed her gaze to Damian Morgan, and asked, "Miss Shaw, do you need us to drive you home?"
She and Damian Morgan had been in a standoff outside for a long time, and the officers inside had been keeping an eye on them.
"My husband is already on his way to pick me up. He’ll be here soon."
The policewoman helped her to a chair. "Then you can wait for your husband here."
"Thank you."
Coincidentally, this was the station for the eastern district—the same one Alaric Blackwood had been brought to after his clash with a group of thugs at the barbecue restaurant.
An officer recognized her.
"Your husband is Alaric Blackwood?"
Sophie Shaw nodded.
"Mr. Blackwood’s lawyer is very capable."

"You remember the fight, right?"
Sophie Shaw hummed in acknowledgment, and the officer continued, "Those guys only ended up with basic medical compensation. They just had superficial injuries, so they each got two hundred fifty."
Sophie Shaw pressed her lips together, trying not to laugh.
Damian Morgan watched her from a distance, through the glass.
Seeing that she was chatting with the officer and wouldn’t be coming out anytime soon, and considering this was a police station and Alaric Blackwood was on his way, he had no choice but to leave first.
When Alaric Blackwood arrived, there was no sign of Damian Morgan outside the station.
The man, draped in a black overcoat, stepped out of the Maybach with a long stride and walked briskly into the police station.
He saw Sophie Shaw sitting on a chair in the corner, holding a paper cup and sipping water with her head down. He strode over, his eyes scanning her from head to toe.
"What happened?"
Seeing him, a sense of calm washed over Sophie Shaw.
She smiled up at him and shook her head.
Alaric Blackwood didn’t ask about the video she had sent. He thanked the police, pulled Sophie Shaw to her feet, and left.
On the way back, Alaric Blackwood remained quiet. Once they reached Maplewood Estate and went inside, before he could say anything, Sophie Shaw tugged on the sleeve of his overcoat. "Did you see the video?"
"Mm."
"Send it to me."
To be safe, she wanted to save another copy to a USB drive as a backup.
Alaric Blackwood forwarded the video he had received on WeChat to Sophie Shaw.
Seeing the smile on Sophie Shaw’s face as she confirmed the received message, changed into her slippers, and scampered upstairs, he had a good idea of what she was up to.
After returning from abroad, he had already investigated Sophie Shaw’s situation thoroughly.
He knew Sophie had used all her savings to help that scumbag start a company. He knew the scumbag had exploited her trust to seize the shares that should have been hers and forcefully take control of the Heart of the Ocean.
Sophie Shaw recording a video of Damian Morgan cheating with another woman was clearly a last resort—her only way to negotiate terms with him.
He remembered her saying yesterday that she would get back what was hers.
’Little thing!’
’She’s pretty smart.’
The corners of his lips curved into a faint smile. He changed into his slippers and went to the kitchen. Guessing that Sophie Shaw hadn’t eaten dinner after such a long night, he started cooking a bowl of tomato and egg noodles.
...
Sophie Shaw saved a copy of the video to her USB drive just as she got a call from Anne.
"The Social Climber really cheated again!"
Anne was both shocked and delighted, happy for Sophie Shaw. "Congratulations! You’ve got leverage on the Social Climber now."
"Anne, help me keep a copy of that video."
"Don’t worry, I’ve already saved it and set a password. No one can see this video on my phone."
"I’ve made a backup too. Tomorrow, I’m going to meet Damian Morgan to formally negotiate."
Alaric Blackwood walked to the bedroom door and, through the slightly ajar door, happened to overhear her.
He didn’t say anything, just watched her thoughtfully for a moment before raising his hand to knock.
When she saw him carrying a steaming bowl of noodles, Sophie Shaw quickly ended her call with Anne and got up to greet him.
"You cooked for me?"
"Mm."
"Thank you. I’ll take it."
"Be careful, it’s hot."
Alaric Blackwood didn’t let her take the bowl. He sidestepped her and placed the fragrant bowl of noodles on the desk.
Just as he straightened up, a light, fleeting kiss landed on the side of his face.
His shoulders stiffened, and he looked at Sophie Shaw in surprise.
"Alaric Blackwood, you’re so good to me."
...
’A kiss is a kiss, but why is she giving me the ’nice guy’ card again?’
"Eat it while it’s hot."
He ruffled her hair. As she sat down at the desk, picked up her chopsticks, and began slurping the noodles, he left the room and went to the study.
Sitting down at his desk, he opened his computer and saved a copy of the video Sophie Shaw had sent him.
He did it as a way of keeping one more backup for Sophie Shaw.
In order to climb the social ladder, Damian Morgan had started pursuing Sophie Shaw three years ago. Upon discovering she was merely Bianca Kane’s stepdaughter, he immediately shifted his target to Vianne Kane. He’d been hooking up with Vianne for half a year, and Sophie hadn’t suspected his cheating at all. The man’s scheming was uncommonly meticulous.
He had a feeling Sophie Shaw’s negotiations with Damian Morgan would not go smoothly.
Damian Morgan wouldn’t just sit back and wait for defeat.
Sure enough, the internet exploded that very night.
A media outlet exposed that on the day Vianne Kane and Damian Morgan announced their engagement, one of Damian’s obsessed admirers had waited forlornly at a station, frantically harassing him with calls and threatening to make him elope with her.
Riding the trending wave of Vianne Kane’s name, the post quickly shot to the top of the hot search list. freeweɓnøvel.com
Besides a photo of Vianne Kane and Damian Morgan together, the post included two pictures of another woman. One showed Sophie Shaw standing outside a station, drenched in rain. The other was a close-up of Sophie’s devastated face in the downpour.
The post was being shared massively, and the number of comments was skyrocketing.
"Inside sources" had already revealed Sophie Shaw’s true identity: Vianne Kane’s stepsister...
Alaric Blackwood gripped his phone tightly, the veins on the back of his hand bulging.
Worried that Sophie Shaw would be upset if she saw the trending topic, he immediately left his room and headed for the bedroom next door.
He knocked on Sophie Shaw’s door. When there was no answer, he gently pushed it open.
In the soft light from the hallway, he saw the person on the bed was already fast asleep. The man’s tightly furrowed brow relaxed slightly.
He closed the door, returned to his room, and made a phone call that woke up Preston Chase.
