Chapter 150: Chapter 150: Maybe a Little Like, But Not Much
Lydia Wynn finished washing her car. Following the location Damian Morgan sent, she drove to a secluded side road.
After waiting for less than ten minutes, a Rolls-Royce pulled up.
Damian Morgan didn’t get out, signaling for Troy Wright to hurry up.
The middle-aged man walked over to the red sports car with the equipment. He installed a listening and tracking device in a very inconspicuous spot on the back seat. Once the job was done, he walked out of the side road and left in a taxi. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
"It’s done." Damian Morgan and Lydia Wynn looked at each other through their car windows. "Go back and report."
"Who was that man just now?"
"You don’t need to know."
Damian Morgan stepped on the gas and left first.
...
「Lunch break.」
Sophie Shaw was hungry. She picked up her phone and opened a food delivery app, hesitating over what to eat, when there was a knock on her office door.
Hannah Sutton poked her head in. "President Shaw, Mr. Blackwood sent a driver to pick you up."
’Alaric Blackwood really has some nerve.’
’I already told him I wouldn’t have lunch with him, and he still sent a driver.’
Sophie Shaw put on an aloof air for a moment, but in the end, she nodded at Hannah Sutton.
She grabbed her purse and coat, then took the elevator downstairs.
She had seen the driver Alaric Blackwood sent before. She thought his surname was Zhang.
He was driving a black sedan, not Alaric Blackwood’s private sports car.
Old Zhang saw her come out and respectfully opened the rear passenger door for her.
"Thank you."
She got into the back seat and received a WeChat message from Alaric Blackwood. It was the restaurant reservation details.
Old Zhang drove her directly to the restaurant entrance. The moment she got out, the driver drove away.
She saw Alaric Blackwood’s eye-catching red sports car parked in a temporary spot across the street. It seemed he was already there.
She walked into the restaurant, went upstairs, and headed straight for the reserved private room.
She was surprised to find not only Alaric Blackwood inside but two other people as well: Jaden and Stella Yarrow.
’I thought it would just be me and Alaric Blackwood. I didn’t expect his friends to be here too.’
"Come here."
Alaric Blackwood pulled out the chair next to him.
She walked over and sat down beside him.
Alaric Blackwood handed her the menu and told her to order.
Across from them, Jaden’s face was pale. He looked unwell and listless, as if he were sick.
Stella Yarrow showed no concern for him at all. Her dark, shining eyes were fixed on the menu as she rattled off several dishes in one go, all of them her personal favorites.
"Jaden, have you seen a doctor?" Alaric Blackwood asked suddenly.
Having been close with Jaden since they were kids, he could tell at a glance that something was wrong with him.
"Not yet. I think I caught a cold last night. When I woke up this morning, I was on the sofa, just left out in the open."
There was a hint of resentment in Jaden’s tone. Anyone could tell he was blaming Stella Yarrow for not taking care of him last night, leaving him on the sofa without even covering him with a blanket.
Stella Yarrow pretended not to understand what he was saying. She gave Alaric Blackwood a sweet smile. "Don’t worry, Mr. Blackwood. I’ll take him to see a doctor after we eat."
"You said you were going to make him some hangover soup. Did you make it last night?"
"Ah, well..."
"You didn’t make it?"
"Jaden was asleep, and I couldn’t wake him, so I didn’t make it."
"It’s understandable if you couldn’t carry a drunkard, and sleeping on the sofa is fine, but why didn’t you cover him with a blanket?"
Stella Yarrow was rendered speechless by Alaric Blackwood’s words, feeling wronged and a little indignant.
’A girlfriend is supposed to be coaxed, adored, and pampered. It’s not like she’s a maid Jaden hired...’
Seeing her eyes redden as she was about to cry, Jaden said helplessly, "Alright, forget it. It’s my own bad luck."
’I ended up with a delicate young girl fresh out of college who has no idea how to take care of anyone.’
"What do you mean, ’your own bad luck’?" Stella Yarrow’s tears fell, and she sobbed. "Are you blaming me in your heart?"
"I’m not blaming you."
Jaden felt awful, but he still had to turn around and comfort the pampered young lady.
He suddenly found himself missing Nina Halloway.
’She was a pampered young lady too, but in a situation like last night’s, Nina Halloway would never have ignored him and let him lie on the sofa all night.’
’Nina Halloway might not have known how to take care of people, but at least she would have covered him with a blanket.’
’That’s something any normal girlfriend would do.’
He couldn’t help but wonder if Stella Yarrow even really liked him...
He couldn’t stop his mind from racing. Despite his groggy head, he managed to soothe Stella Yarrow. But when the food arrived, he had no appetite. After a few bites, he put down his chopsticks and stood up. "I’m going to the restroom."
Alaric Blackwood watched him quietly. Seeing him sway as he walked, Alaric grew concerned and followed him.
Alaric Blackwood watched Jaden go into the restroom, then stopped and waited outside.
A short while later, Jaden came out, looking utterly dejected.
Alaric Blackwood walked up, placed his hand on Jaden’s forehead, and felt it was burning hot. "You have a fever."
"I’ll get a shot from a doctor later."
"Jaden."
"Hm?"
"I don’t really like that girlfriend of yours. I haven’t liked her since the day you brought her out and introduced her to me and Evan."
"Because of your sister?"
"Not entirely."
"What other reason is there?"
Alaric Blackwood didn’t want to be too harsh, so he chose his words carefully before speaking. "She doesn’t seem to love you very much. Maybe she likes you a little, but not much."
"..."
That was harsh.
Jaden’s expression changed slightly, as if a sore spot had been poked.
"That Miss Yarrow... my impression is that her intentions aren’t very pure."
Alaric Blackwood’s tone was tactful. He still remembered how, the first time Stella Yarrow met him, her bright eyes had been glued to him, completely ignoring Jaden, who was right beside her.
"Last night when I dropped you off, she asked me to stay for a bit."
Jaden’s brow furrowed deeply. "You’re probably overthinking it. She was just being polite."
"I don’t think so."
"Then what are you trying to say? That my girlfriend has a thing for you?"
"At the very least, she was interested in me at one point. Maybe because I’m married now..."
"Alaric!"
Jaden cut him off, his voice filled with fury. "I know you’re handsome—incredibly handsome—but can you not be so narcissistic? Not every woman who sees you is going to fall for you."
"That’s not what I meant."
"This is just because I hurt your sister, isn’t it? You can’t stand it. You and your sister have already hit me and cursed me out. Isn’t that enough? Don’t make jokes like this about my girlfriend. It’s not funny at all."
Jaden hung his head, dejected, and turned back toward the private room.
Alaric Blackwood stood where he was, watching Jaden’s listless state. Not wanting to say more, he could only follow and support the sick man.
Jaden glanced at the supporting hand and shook it off. "I don’t need your help."
"Jaden..."
"Just leave me alone."
The man pushed open the door to the private room, walked in, and grabbed Stella Yarrow. "We’re not eating anymore. Let’s go."
Stella Yarrow was stunned. "I’m not full yet."
"We’ll eat somewhere else later."
"But..."
"You’re leaving with me right now."
Jaden’s temper flared, and he gripped Stella Yarrow’s arm forcefully.
The grip hurt her, and tears instantly streamed down her face again. "Jaden, let go! You’re hurting me!"
With a cold expression, the man dragged her out of the private room, ignoring her cries and forcefully pulling her away.
Sophie Shaw just watched silently the entire time, not knowing what had happened.
When Alaric Blackwood returned with a grim look on his face, she hesitated, wondering if she should ask what was wrong. But he spoke first, explaining, "Jaden wasn’t feeling well, so they left for the hospital."
