Chapter 89: Chapter 89; Who brought her here?

Alina’s POV

A wicked smile played on my lips as I watched the pack doctor step out of the room where Ilya was being treated.

Lucian immediately stepped forward, his voice tense. "Will she be alright?"

"She is stable, Alpha," the doctor replied, wiping his hands. "Her wounds will heal. However... the substance that managed to cut right through her defenses is something I have never encountered before. I can’t identify it."

My smile only widened at his words, but I kept my mouth shut. freewebnσvel.cѳm

The doctor bowed his head and left the corridor, leaving Lucian and me alone. The moment his footsteps faded, Lucian turned to me, a knowing look in his eyes. "Alina... did you do something?"

"What could I possibly do?" I asked innocently, tilting my head. "I mean, it’s not like I went through her personal stuff, searched her things, and found a dangerous substance I could secretly feed her, completely aware that it might kill her or not."

A slow, appreciative smirk broke across Lucian’s face. "I love you, Alina."

I smirked right back, matching his energy. "Of course you do."

"But why did you ask me to call the doctor?" he asked, his brow furrowing slightly in confusion.

"Have you forgotten the plan?" I murmured, stepping closer so my voice wouldn’t carry. "You continue to play the role of the good, devoted fiancé. Meanwhile, I am going to find out exactly what she wants. After everything you explained to me, she doesn’t look like a woman who just came here for your love. She wants something entirely different, and I am going to uncover it."

Lucian’s eyes softened with absolute devotion. "I trust anything you say, Alina. I will always believe your words."

He leaned in, closing the distance between us, but before he could touch me, Ilya’s weak, raspy voice echoed from inside the medical room, calling his name.

Lucian instantly rolled his eyes in pure annoyance.

"Go to her," I told him softly, gesturing toward the door. "See what she wants, okay?"

He gave me a tight nod and turned, reluctantly entering the room to meet his "fiancée."

Left alone in the quiet hallway, my mind began to race. Someone told Ilya exactly where she could find Lucian,I thought to myself. That much was a certainty. A woman like her wouldn’t just appear out of thin air; she had to be working with an insider.

My very first thought was Ragnar. After all, he was the one who had gone behind Lucian’s back to meet with Aiden, making it incredibly easy for him to look for Ilya and use her to destroy Lucian. But then again, it might not be him. It could be someone completely unexpected. One thing was for sure—I had to keep my eyes wide open, tracking Ragnar and everyone else in this house.

"Why are you allowing this to happen?" Sammy demanded, pacing the length of the room. "It’s been over two weeks now, Alina! You’re still not saying anything, Lucian is parading around with another woman, and you’re just sitting back? I swear, I will kill him myself."

"Don’t worry about Lucian," I told him calmly, trying to soothe his raging temper. "I am just giving him some time to think about what he really wants."

Sammy’s face flushed with anger at my response. "I won’t let my sister be treated like some second option! We shouldn’t be here." He stopped pacing and looked at me dead in the eye. "Do you even like Lucian in the first place?"

A small, genuine smile crept onto my lips. The anger in my chest softened at the thought of him. "I have never felt the way I do for him with anyone else, Sammy."

"And that is exactly why we need to leave right now," Sammy pushed, his voice dropping. "We can’t stay here anymore—"

The door suddenly clicked open, and Ragnar stepped into the room.

Sammy and I slammed our mouths shut instantly. A heavy, awkward silence fell over the room, the tension so thick it was almost suffocating.

Ragnar looked between the two of us, clearing his throat uncomfortably. "I know... I know the two of you might not trust me anymore," he began, his voice laced with a desperate sincerity. "But I swear to you, I am really not a traitor. I swear by my life."

Neither of us moved.

Ragnar took a cautious step forward, his eyes locking onto mine. "Alina... I think I might have found something that can lead us straight to Ilya’s true motives. Because I know exactly why she is truly here."

My interest was instantly piqued, my eyes narrowing as I stared back at him.

I took a step toward Ragnar, my chest tightening with anticipation. "What did you find out?"

"After doing my own little hunt, a lot of things started making sense," Ragnar began, his voice low and cautious. "It turns out that Ilya and her family were completely banished from their original village because of that illegal substance they possess. But it goes much deeper than that. Her mother was heavily into witchcraft."

Sammy crossed his arms, his eyes narrowing. "Witchcraft?"

"Yes," Ragnar nodded gravely. "A few years back, the firstborn daughters in almost every single family in their village started to die mysteriously, one by one. It wasn’t a coincidence. Her family was sacrificing them. They wanted to use that dark magic to turn Ilya into the first Lunareth—a supreme being with the power to take over and enslave every single werewolf pack that has ever lived."

A chill ran down my spine as I listened. "If they were that powerful, how were they stopped?"

"Because of Lucian," Ragnar revealed, looking directly at me. "Lucian discovered what they were doing. He ratted them out to the council, and that raid got her parents killed. Ilya was the only one who managed to escape, and she’s been on the run ever since. She needs Lucian now because his Alpha power is incredibly strong, and she can channel it to finally get what she wants."

I swallowed hard, the pieces of the puzzle clicking into place. "But she didn’t just stumble onto our pack borders by accident, did she?"

"No," Ragnar said, his expression turning dead serious. "That’s the catch. She isn’t working alone. Someone inside the territories tracked her down and brought her right to this house."

My breath hitched. I took a step closer, desperate for the final piece. "Who? Who brought her here?"

Ragnar took a deep breath. "Emily."
