Chapter 164: Chapter 164: 8 Years Later
It’s been 8 years and a lot had happened in the past 8 years. The werewolves managed to remain hidden in the black market.
The mercenary guild grew, it now had nearly a thousand members, two which were level 5 even.
Even so, the amount of missions they get each day surpass the number of active mercenaries.
Even Adrian and Annie never would’ve anticipated this 8 years ago when the guild was first built.
The reason for all of this was simple, with an organisation now focused on taking such missions.
More people came out to commission them, especially humans. Most places with humans had Gadra.
Unfortunately the organisation didn’t have enough agents to take care of everything, only the major issues like these threatening an entire city.
Because of that, most villages and small towns were left on their own to defend themselves.
Then there were the witches, they were the biggest clients of the guild. The witches made a living through potions and enchantment.
Before, they had to rely on their sisters of the elemental covenants but witches were not a very large race.
Elemental witches were highly limited and mostly spent their times protecting the sacred grounds of the witches.
The second largest group was ironically enough, Occult mages which were even fewer than witches.
This was the reason the church couldn’t compete with forces like the witches, vampires or the organisation.
Even though they had powerful occult mages and most occult were members of the church. free𝑤ebnovel.com
Overall they had only about a hundred thousand members, that’s including members from both the human world and the realm beyond the mist.
However occult magic was highly dependent on the items being channeled. The most powerful were naturally relics.
Relics were items that had accumulated a form of energy different from pure esper, this could either be faith or fear.
Those relics were called blessed or cursed relics respectively. However there were also ritual spells.
Witch magic also had ritual spells that need specific items obtained under specific conditions to work.
This was where the guild came in, most of those items needed for ritual magic came from Gadra or wild flora.
Because they had so many clients, the guild grew rich enough to expand to the outside world.
They had a branch on the human world and multiple branches on the realm beyond the mist.
Naturally the werewolves only stayed and operated within the branch on the black market.
They only left for missions and came back, the other branches were handled by staff they had hired.
Having so much money also meant they could start other businesses. They started by buying the building so they were no longer renting.
Adrian expanded his garden and the number of werewolves in the pack increased to 624 but they were mostly Omega.
There were still only 13 Delta and 18 Gemma. Adrian and Annie had set a point system.
It was similar to the mercenary point system, they called it the moon points and they only had one purpose.
Using them, the werewolves can upgrade to the next rank but the required points were so high not a single werewolf was close to an upgrade.
Annie thought this was cruel but Adrian didn’t want to make things easy, he wanted the werewolves to appreciate that opportunity.
Currently, Adrian was leaning on a shelve watching Annie read. " I think you should go out sometimes.
You’ve been holed up here for 3 full months now." He asked her gently.
" Yeah yeah sure." She answered but she wasn’t even paying attention. He knew she wasn’t listening.
He sighed, " Your mom called, the twins are turning 16 in two weeks, she told you not to forget."
Thinking of the twins he remembered his own sister. Adrian had issued a mission himself with an extremely high pay.
The mission was simply to find a way that leads to hell. Most took this as a metaphor and had no idea how to complete it.
While most supernatural beings believed demons were real, they weren’t certain if hell was a real place.
Annie raised her head and looked at him then she grinned. " I’ve figured it out, I’ve figured it out Adrian."
He raised his eyebrow, " Figured what out?" She showed him the book with depicted an 8 pointed star.
" What’s this?" He asked, he knew she had been studying occult magic for the past 8 years but he also knew that was pointless.
Werewolves cannot learn occult magic, it was hard enough for humans and witches who were more attuned to it.
But Annie insisted claiming she can do it, no matter how long it took.
" It’s called an eight pointed seal, technically it’s a directional seal, each number represents the power of the spell.
The higher the number of corners of the seal, the stronger it is. This one can trap even level 5 demons or anything for that matter.
It took me 8 years just to learn this single spell but finally I did it. Huh, in your face." She jabbed him with a finger while giving him a smug look.
" I told you I can do but no, werewolves can’t learn occult magic Annie, it’s impossible Annie, give up and do something else.
Who’s stupid now oh king of wolves?" She started laughing while mocking him.
" Oh right oh right, you don’t have to be smug about it, besides we don’t even know if this spell works."
" Yeah you’re right, let’s test it." She dragged him to the back of the library. Then she slit her own wrist.
Using her blood she drew the eight pointed star on the floor. " This spell needs blood infused with esper.
The stronger the source, the stronger the spell. Even though I haven’t reached level 5 yet, this spell should be powerful enough, step inside."
The eight pointed star was drawn within a circle of 3 metres in diameter. He stepped in the centre but felt nothing.
" Nothing is happening, are you sure this spell of yours work?"
She grinned, " Why don’t you try getting out of that circle."
He shrugged and tried to walk out but met an invisible barrier. He placed his hand on the barrier and it felt solid.
" What’s this? It feels so solid." Adrian pulled back his fist and punched. BOOOOOM.
