Chapter 21: My Moneeey!
"Tsk,"
It was now early in the morning.
Inside a bland club room was Cillian, who was patiently waiting indoors with an annoyed face.
He relentlessly kept tapping his finger on the table as his eyes continued watching the hands of the clock hanging above their doorsteps. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
As seconds turned into minutes and minutes turned into hours, his expression gradually darkened. Now, two hours have already passed, almost time for the classes to start.
Why was he early in the club room?
Well, because he was waiting for a particular person to hand over his particular payment for the job.
Obviously, that is Cillian’s first customer, Ethan. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
"He should’ve done his business three hours ago. I thought he was running a bit late, so he should have been done two hours ago yet... yet! Don’t tell me he didn’t follow my words and waited until morning to catch his girlfriend’s act?!"
Cillian immediately shook his head and dismissed the idea.
"Ethan is anything but dumb. I’m sure he understood what I’m trying to relay to him..."
His head lightly slumped on the table as he sighed.
"So why in the world is he not paying..."
Truth be told, even if Ethan cheated his way out of him after the task was done, Cillian could always come to his room and demand payment.
Not only did he know where his dormitory was, but he also knew where his classes were.
His strongest weapon, which he currently holds, is the signed contract that was safely stored in his drawer.
Still, even with all the cases, Cillian was afraid of losing his money. He might’ve won the trial that might happen, but he will surely lose all the payment he’s supposed to receive.
If taken into consideration, it was a lose-lose scenario.
By the time the class was starting, Vin and Phillip had already entered the club, expecting some good news from Cillian’s progress.
But in the end, Ethan didn’t come to the club to pay.
...
Today, he was back in his class once more. Their homeroom teacher, Ulrich, didn’t discuss much about the upcoming celebration, but he already hinted that they had finalized the event.
Of course, they will eventually know about it, but it’s better to have prior knowledge of the event to be ready, rather than waiting for instructions once it has already started.
The academy was letting the students figure out these things.
If others find it exhilarating, some of them feel that it is a useless effort.
Cillian shared the same sentiment of seeing this as a useless report like some people.
’What a drag,’
Cillian was resting his chin on the palm of his hand while looking outside the window.
Disinterested, he looked toward the front of the class where students gathered around the main cast of the novel, which already included the third group whose roles were still undetermined.
Only he wasn’t participating.
’So far, I couldn’t find anything interesting about this tournament aside from the rewards. I’ll start gathering information on the weekends. Today is Wednesday. There’s another class on Friday, but it’s more or less the same thing that’s going to happen. Unless they could gather the information regarding the tournament early on, planning advanced strategies is a no-go.’
Suddenly, the door opened. A blonde woman with braided hair entered with her usual deep, piercing gaze. Her face was frowning before walking behind Cillian.
"Good afternoon, ma’am."
Cillian greeted her with a slightly hoarse voice, feeling that her moody expression was directed at him.
He thought he was discovered during his operation of busting Ethan’s girlfriend’s little cheating scandal, which is why she was slightly annoyed but had to dismiss the idea.
First, he had already witnessed the same demeanor earlier in the monitoring.
Second, he wouldn’t be here in the class quietly listening to the murmurs of his classmates.
’Goodness, I’m being a really good student this time. There’s no way I’ll ruin it now that Freya is seeing me in a new light.’
As for why he was reacting very nervously, Cillian was just afraid that the monitoring would take longer than it was supposed to.
Instead of being able to do a lot of things, a restriction of freedom wouldn’t let him achieve anything. At most, he’ll accomplish everything not to his satisfaction.
To a guy who plans to have fun, he didn’t want someone nagging at his actions.
"..."
Soon, Freya lingered her gaze at the moment before nodding once.
For a moment, Cillian thought their small interaction was done before she started to speak.
"For the past few days, it seemed I was a bit late in monitoring you. I know I already told you that I might be late for some time, but after the recent appearance of the Runic Gate, Elsewhere in Time, a lot of things are happening."
Elsewhere in Time, was the name of the Runic Gate that manifested in the world recently in the Academy nearby. Her already busy schedule seemed to have become crampier because of this occurrence.
’Oh please, you can give me a heads up if you’re not taking the monitoring for the rest of the day. I will be really grateful,’
Cillian mused inwardly before expressing.
"I understand. Please don’t be burdened by it."
When he meant burdened, Cillian was actually hinting to leave him alone and stop the monitoring.
But oblivious about the case, Freya shook her head.
"I’m not burdened. Though today, I tried to really come on time, but I encountered a problem in the morning, you see, and I’m a bit late, short twenty minutes or so, all because a fight happened in your building."
’Wait, really?’
Cillian’s mind stirred and swiftly tried to conclude that the problem Freya encountered happened today.
But for some reason, he had a bad feeling about it.
’First building... in the morning...’
It can’t be, right...?
Freya, as if to quench Cillian’s curiosity, narrowed her gaze at the group of students chatting to each other before answering.
"A guy from Class 6-E named Ethan Smith fought Class 1-C’s presumed leader, Jack Trade."
Freya then refused to elaborate even further.
But Cillian just needed the names of these troublemakers and not the reason for their fight since he already knew the reason behind it.
’No way...’
Cillian’s worst nightmares came true.
’Nooo! Damn you, Ethan! At least fight him when you already paid me! God damn it! My moneeey!’
Cillian barely avoided his true thoughts appearing on his face before composing himself.
If he thought about it better, Ethan didn’t reveal anything that related to him and his club.
Even though it is part of the confidentiality that he signed, since the laws Cillian used are still part of the school laws, Ethan might slip and tell that there are other witnesses to Jack and Lily’s indecent actions.
Yet, he didn’t.
’I want my club to receive the attention of the students as a reliable investigative crew, but if they first hear they did a good job on busting a scandal, I’m not so sure what kind of developments might happen now...’
With a sigh, Cillian finally had the guts to push himself through this trouble.
Even if the situation had nothing to do with Cillian, the enemies of Ethan might see this as an act of pestering other people’s business, which might surely attack him if they traced Ethan’s actions back to him.
’Looks like I can’t delay it any longer. I’ll have to strengthen myself. I’ll have to follow through the initial plan of building up "walls" as protective gear for myself.’
Cillian definitely thought about this beforehand as a measure to hide his Ruiner status. Now, for his sake, he had to work two times harder.
It’s not like he never thought about it. In fact, he was aware that he was bound to attract foes for his goals.
At the end of these possibilities, there’ll always be a winner and a loser. And for Cillian, losing means destroying the will to achieve fun and kill boredom.
He will have to win every single time.
’All right, I guess the only choice is to grow stronger. This should be fun.’
...
For the rest of the day, Cillian searched for classes that matched his likes and requirements. If he was going to learn something, it might as well be fun.
Hence, he eradicated the boring classes that the previous owner of the body had and will soon replace them with a discussion that concentrates on learning what he liked to learn.
Not all of them are full of theories and books related, though, as Cillian mostly chose practical classes that require practical procedure.
When Freya came to monitor him, he had a lot of explaining to do about these class changes.
Freya gave him advice instead of disagreeing by saying a lot of reminders.
She said that Cillian will have to go through the Student Council to pass forms to the School Administration to replace the previous classes he chose with new ones by this weekend.
One could make such a request once a month if they found the classes lacking, but this request will only be available once a month.
Thankfully, the previous Cillian didn’t attend class frequently and hadn’t requested a change before, so he was confident his request would be approved.
Now, a day passed, Thursday came, and it was morning.
"Good afternoon, students."
