Chapter 20: Patrolling Night Guard

Silently walking through the hallways, Cillian, who assumed the face of a normal old man walking through the night that patrols the academy that day, set his eyes on the sixth building in the East Wing.

Unlike the West Wing, which is one of the biggest dormitories of the academy that can host second and third years, grades, or classes alike, the first year’s dormitory has six buildings in total with towering floors.

Varying from classes 1-6 and categorized from A to G, each building corresponds to each class. This explains why Cillian lived in building one.

Of course, the choices of dormitories differ, and it was up to the students where they wanted to live in their first year. With a few talks in the school administration, they can get a leeway.

Luckily, Cillian didn’t live near Aster, his companions, and Fred’s new room.

The walk to each building didn’t prove any hassle. There aren’t any gates or guards to stop anyone from achieving their purpose of visit, but at night, it changes as students are ordered to return to their rooms.

If they got caught by the patrolling guards, consequences would be given as it is part of the school book and rules.

As to why it was implemented, certain accidents occurred because they didn’t follow these rules.

Dressed in a lesser design of a patrolling guard uniform, which has been sewn from different kinds of fabric that would make it look the same, Cillian walked through a small bridge that connects the fifth building to the sixth.

Here and there, spacious and dim corridors spread.

His vision was provided by academy lamps that are affected at night. The same as the previous buildings he passed by, Cillian stepped onto the grounds of the sixth building for Class 6.

Soon, with the room number and floor in mind that was given by Ethan beforehand, Cillian ventured through the sixth floor to room [401].

Greeting fellow patrolling guards on his way, he stood in front of the room that belonged to Ethan’s girlfriend, Lily.

’You’ve rehearsed this...’

Letting out a short sigh, Cillian slowly raised his hand before knocking once.

Tap—!

He waited, thinking that the students inside were only asleep and needed time to adjust. Already giving them ample time to compose themselves, Cillian motioned a series of knocks and soon came to a halt after a few seconds.

Footsteps resounded inside, and the cranky sound of the doorknob opening surfaced. Soon, a woman opened the door slightly with unfocused eyes.

’Crap! What is she doing here?!’

Standing in front was the silver-haired woman, Willow Montolov. She was wearing loose clothes and baggy pajamas.

Rubbing her unfocused eyes, she saw an old man standing in front of her, wearing a stupefied expression.

"Mister, is something wrong?"

With a light yawn, Willow demanded with a warm tone, her face didn’t even contort with suspicion. Her mind was in a state of waking up, but she didn’t have to be alert due to the patrolling guards knocking on the student dorms and asking some questions.

It was pretty normal.

On the other hand, Cillian removed his initial expression as the wrinkles on his face moved while his mouth motioned.

"I’m here to check if the person Lily Hesa is in the room. Is she here by any chance? Someone reported that she is missing."

"She is?"

Willow’s eyes slightly widened before yawning.

"Actually, mister, I don’t belong in this room. This person, Lily, is someone I don’t know either. Wait, let me wake up the person who might know her."

’Yeah, you’re supposed to be in the same building as me!’

Cillian thought inwardly and watched as Willow closed the door for a moment.

After waiting for about a minute, another woman appeared, her attention focused. Willow was at the woman’s back as the door opened fully this time.

Cillian glanced inside the room, seeing how messy it was. Clothes were scattered around, and like Willow, the woman in question was wearing the same baggy pajamas and sleeping shirt.

Each bed was disheveled as the blankets weren’t properly placed.

He realized they were in a sleepover.

"Hello, I’m Lily’s roommate, Leah. S-she is missing? When does this report happen?"

Cillian abruptly replied.

"A few hours ago."

A look of understanding appeared on Leah’s face that didn’t convey that she believed the old man’s words.

Finally, with a bit of hesitation, she gave a piece of important news to Cillian.

"Actually, she already said in the morning that she’ll not come to the dorm. Uh, she said that she’ll be sleeping in someone else’s room. Ah, right, may I know who gave the missing report?"

’Sleeping in someone else’s room? Another sleepover, eh?’

Feeling that she wouldn’t give any more detailed explanation, Cillian answered vaguely.

"Someone close that might be very worried about her."

"Is it her boyfriend?"

Guessing something at the back of his mind as if he realized what was going on, Cillian shook his head and lied.

"No. Just a letter being given to me."

His other reply was a lie too, but he said it straightforwardly that Leah believed and continued.

"Actually, she’s in building one right now, exactly Room 25, first floor. I’m actually quite worried about her. Will you check at that place, mister?"

Cillian nodded solemnly as he replied with the same hoarse voice.

"That is my job. Thank you for answering. Have a good night’s sleep, ladies."

Bidding farewell to the two, Cillian immediately retraced his steps while feeling infuriated that the person he was looking for was residing in the same building as him.

’What an unlucky trip.’

With a tired sigh, he walked back to his dorm building.

...

Knock—!

In front of a very ordinary door with a room number of 25 in Class 1’s building, Cillian waited for a few seconds, naturally doing the same actions he did in Leah’s room.

Once he had taken a long breath, he signaled a series of knocks to grab the attention of the people inside.

There was no reply after a minute.

Cillian contemplated if a person was in a deep sleep inside, but due to how impatient he was becoming, he did another series of knocking until he got the result he wanted.

Grumpy footsteps walked towards him and swung the door open.

"It’s fucking night."

In front was a pesky man wearing only pants, leaving his top empty with a striking snake-coiling-skill tattoo around his neck for all eyes to see. His tone sounded insufferable, and Cillian couldn’t help but smile in amusement.

’A man, huh? What an obnoxious fellow do we have here.’

Seeing the amused smile on the old man’s lips, the guy at the door clicked his tongue and demanded.

"What is it, old man? Is there a problem?"

Cillian removed the smile from his lips as he spoke calmly.

"I’m just checking if the woman named Lily Hesa is inside this room. A missing report has been passed to me."

"A missing report?"

The obnoxious man chuckled before opening the door widely for Cillian’s eyes to see. He then added.

"She’s here. Sleeping soundly beside me."

There was a foul stench inside the room as if something dirty had just happened.

Inside, this obnoxious man didn’t have any roommates, probably salvaging every authority he had and abusing it to own this place.

On his long bed was a sleeping woman, covered in a blanket with only her face showing. She seemed unbothered by the noise and was sleeping soundly. One look was enough to realize that she was naked. If not for the blanket, someone would’ve already seen her entire figure.

’I guess that sums everything up.’

With a nod, Cillian bid his farewell, leaving the obnoxious man. He had already found the information and evidence, and it was only up to him how he could use it.

After deciding what he should do, Cillian’s old man’s face appeared irritated as its wrinkles creased.

’To the fucking building six again...’

He decided to take one last visit for today.

...

"What? Cillian?"

Surprised at Cillian wearing crude patrolling night guard clothes in front of him in the middle of the night, Ethan blurted out with widened eyes.

His unfocused gaze was instantly focused.

There’s only one reason why he came here to the building six again after just going through here twice already.

Letting out an exhausted breath, Cillian answered.

"There’s no time to explain. The task you ordered is complete. If you are curious as to what Lily is doing, come to room 25 in the Class 1 building. Either you come today with me or wait until tomorrow. If you plan to do it tomorrow, you have to do it an hour earlier, before the class. If tonight, you must follow my instructions to get to that place."

Again, Ethan couldn’t help but be shocked at his words.

His suspicions were correct when he realized it was indeed Cillian on his doorstep. He thought he encountered a problem, but to his astonishment, he had already completed the job.

Well, even Cillian was surprised at how efficient he was, but only because the factors needed were only in certain places.

He instantly came to this realization when he received the clues regarding Lily’s whereabouts from Leah.

At first, he was indeed planning on doing a preliminary search, but with how fast he located Lily and knew what kind of ’deeds’ she was doing, he knew he had to report it right away.

His club’s name will spread amongst the masses, and that is equivalent to more rewards to reap.

Ethan, who was still not right in his mind, finally calmed down and reasoned out logically.

"It would be safe if I do it tomorrow, and alone if you may."

’Yes!’

Cillian was dead tired of going back and forth toward large distances of buildings that he nearly screamed in delight when he heard Ethan’s answer.

"Okay!"

Cillian instantly turned to leave, not wanting to stay any longer. In this world, he didn’t want to screw up his sleeping schedule.

If he can sleep at the right time, then he would, at least, in this world.

After a while, Cillian was in front of his room and entered.

Cillian warmly embraced the soft fabric of his bed that waited for his return. Not removing the clothes he wore just now, he wrapped his blanket around him like a cocoon and slept soundly.
