Chapter 11: Ms. Monitor Lady
[White Flag]
Cillian had to set this aside for a few days to focus on knowing Faceless, but now, he couldn’t ignore it any longer.
This was the second most confusing part he had encountered so far, with no apparent answer, while his transmigration was the first.
A visible appearance of a flag and a screen popped out in front of him.
Cillian observed the reflection of himself in the mirror with a mysterious flag appearing above his head.
Cillian knew the white flag appearing above his head was somehow connected to the system where he used to see information about Faceless. It wasn’t hard to realize it.
Though no matter how many times Cillian touched the flags above his head or called out different names, anything related to it remained unresponsive.
Shouldn’t the system be helpful to the user?
Then how the fucking come Cillian is different from those system webnovels he had read?
Is it the same trashy author’s fault again?
"Calm down..."
Cillian let out a breath.
Every time he remembered the author who killed him, Cillian’s mood just instantly dropped.
He doesn’t want to start his day in a bad mood.
’For now, it didn’t seem to harm me. White flag... what does it represent, though? Phillips and Vin also have the white flag hovering above their heads as well. Oh yeah, when I fought with Fred, the white turned into a red flag. When I transferred to Bard’s principal’s office, his red flag is... already red.’
He could confirm that the flag is real. And he can also confirm that he was the only one seeing the flag, unlike the rest, who somehow ignored it as if it didn’t exist.
Probably because it didn’t appear on their ’vision’ but it’s something that only belonged to Cillian, which he inclined to believe at this point.
At one point, Cillian believed that it was secretly taken by the previous owner of the body, but had to screw them due to two things.
First, even though there’s a low chance, the flag might’ve been a [Zero] or some higher graded Piece such as [Five].
If the flag is also graded as [Zero], then absorbing another same [Zero], Faceless, will definitely fail because two Pieces in the same grade couldn’t coexist.
On the other hand, if the flag is graded even [One] or above, then absorbing [Zero] Piece Faceless is impossible because the Ruiner would have to continue absorbing a grade higher than their previous Piece.
In the end, if either of those two things happened two days ago, Cillian will most definitely puke out Faceless.
The second reason is that the flag didn’t provide him with any information, abilities, or what it does, unlike how Pieces works.
Unlike what happened when he received Faceless and received corresponding details of its abilities, the flag remained static. It didn’t give any heads up what it was.
On the other hand, it didn’t bring him any harm, at least not yet.
The weird part about it is if the system and the flag are one since they come from the same screen, how was Cillian able to see the information of Faceless through his system?
’Do I just ignore it or study it?’
At first, he had the urge to witness what the flag and others contained. Why can it change colors that don’t accord with his will, and why others couldn’t see it, and many more questions.
But then he had to rethink again.
Exploring the unknown might lead to many variables that he couldn’t control for a moment. He had a feeling that it involved supernatural matters and mysterious instances that might harm him, instead of being good.
In the end, he decided to put these aside for the meantime.
Knock—!
After he was done looking at himself in the mirror, wearing a blue navy uniform with a mix of dark red coat that symbolizes the Sorcery Academy, Cillian heard a series of knocking coming from the outside.
"Yes?"
A woman’s voice answered from the outside with a hint of annoyance.
"I will be the one monitoring you, and there are only fifteen minutes left till the start of classes. Do you want to be held accountable once you break the punishment given to you? I will immediately report it now."
’Sounds feisty...’
With a chuckle, Cillian arranged his tie before walking towards the entrance of his dormitory.
Opening it revealed a woman slightly older than him.
Her blonde hair cascaded down to her shoulders as her green gem-like eyes pierced through Cillian’s defenses.
A few people took a steal a few glances at them, and some even stopped to watch the unbelievable scene in front of them.
’What an absolute beauty—’
Just as he was about to comment on the lady’s looks, Cillian stood frozen in his spot when an image struck his head.
Then Cillian saw her letting out a low sneeze. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
"Achoo!"
He recognized her!
The previous Cillian and the current Cillian knew who she was. As for the current one, he met her in the room where he was asked and given punishment by Principal Darwin.
Student Council President, Freya Gray!
’What is she doing—’
Just then, as he asked himself, he remembered the words that Freya said first.
-I’ll be the one monitoring you.
I’ll be monitoring you...
Begone freedom...
You’re dead...
Cillian felt those words whispered his ears that twisted his face.
Seeing his expression made Freya frown.
However, what made it so weird was that Freya didn’t sense any malice or deep feelings that sprouted because of her charms.
’He’s wary of me? Oh, I see. He recognized me now.’
Freya scoffed before she turned around and spoke solemnly.
"Follow me."
She paused for a moment before sneezing again.
"Achoo!"
Cillian followed behind while fully in disbelief.
’No shit, I know you! Why is the student council president the one monitoring me? They are doing this to Fergus’s lackeys because he’s not here anymore? Oh wait, it’s probably because of that they are this active!’
Cillian couldn’t help but think inwardly as many things entered his head.
He was shaken and nervous, as Freya might have already seen the skill difference in just two days.
Though it didn’t look like the case this time.
Cillian took a relieved sigh inwardly and continued to follow behind.
From time to time, he garnered the attention of the students, mostly filled with malicious envy and curiosity.
Envious since he was following one of the most beautiful women in the whole Sorcery Academy, which involved the other academies in the seven territories.
And curious about what he did to Bard, a principal, who caught the attention of the student council and is now being monitored by them.
For a few minutes, nobody engaged in a conversation between Cillian and Freya, not until they left the east wing and entered the main buildings of the school grounds.
"Just to be clear, monitoring you for a day will not happen. It means that I will not watch you for the whole day and see your actions all the time. I also have classes and responsibilities to do. So don’t be too much of a trouble."
Cillian’s eyes gleamed with happiness.
’Oh, thank god. I was just planning how to hide from you just now...’
Cillian was truly relieved, as if a huge load was instantly removed from his shoulders before nodding once.
Freya’s green eyes glanced for a moment after seeing that there was no rebuttal before she resumed.
"That doesn’t mean that you are free to do whatever you want. I will be monitoring you in the morning for an hour, an hour in the afternoon, and two hours in the rest of your schedule. Sometimes it might change depending on my schedule. At times, it might be lower."
Cillian refrained from raising the corner of his lips and replied.
"Having so many responsibilities to do at once while monitoring a troublesome student like me must be tough. Right now, I apologize for the trouble that this brought to you."
Freya’s brows creased as her eyes darted at Cillian, who immediately avoided her gaze.
She stared at him for a moment until she retracted her gaze back forward.
"As per Darwin’s arrangements, the club that you insisted on making has been finished."
Freya commented as he looked at Cillian’s expression, which was filled with surprise.
She scoffed and added.
"Yeah, the paperwork has been done. All that is left is to pay the initial fee for the room you are about to rent and your signature. Also, the club has to cover at least three members. With consent coming from them and a signature, your club will not be made."
’Wait, what? I was ready to make some arrangements regarding this, but the principal had already decided on this matter. Something’s fishy...’
In denial, Cillian couldn’t help but ask with a confused tone.
"Why would he do it?"
Freya, who also came to this question a day ago, shrugged her shoulders and replied with a rhetorical question.
"That shouldn’t be the question, as it should be ’Why did he do it for someone like you?"
’Ma’am, you seemed to enjoy teasing a person like me.’
Cillian mocked himself inwardly with a smile.
"Well, that was fast. I really didn’t expect this to happen at all. But anyway, I will personally give my thanks to him when I have the time."
Instead of rejecting or asking why such a thing happened to him in a timely manner, Cillian received it without any words of disagreement.
Who wouldn’t receive such a gift, even if it’s very suspicious?
’Still, I can’t be too carefree. Showing goodwill when I just disobeyed and mocked a teacher while having a fistfight with a student didn’t sound like a heavy punishment to me at all...’
Cillian isn’t the type of person who doesn’t think ahead of time because, in that way, he makes fewer mistakes.
In this scenario, where he deliberately made mistakes to achieve his goal, it should have equated to also receiving a bad outcome, not one such as this.
’A factor that needs to be considered? A third party?’
Cillian mused inwardly.
"We’re here."
After watching Cillian make guesses for himself, Freya spoke in the same solemn voice as her eyes darted into the classroom.
It’s not a normal classroom, per se. It had university vibes on it that Cillian couldn’t help but remember the scene of the past. He could see some resemblance between them and the Earth’s side.
He entered and smelled the scent of the classroom itself.
It had descending rows of tables and chairs, where at the bottom is the teacher’s table and a huge rectangular board.
Students sat down at the free seats as they waited or chatted with their peers.
"We’re just right on time."
Cillian commented as he took a seat at the last seat in the farthest corner of the room, while Freya silently stood at the side of the classroom, surveying the entirety of the area.
The teacher, who was looking through his watch, nodded as he introduced himself,
"Welcome to another day of our sorcery lessons. My name is Ulrich, and we’ll be talking about Mana Enhancement for today."
