Chapter 435: Lifeline
"Ranthor." Ounz walked out of the marquee and stood beside the young boy.
"Do you think you can do it?" As Ounz said this with a calm demeanor, the wind of the forest brushed against both people.
Ranthor took a deep breath, "Of course I can. I have to, right?" He asked with a smirk.
Ounz smiled at him with a genuine expression, "Yes."
The very next day, Ranthor stood inside a marquee with a bunch of people sitting around a large table. freewebnøvel.com
On this table was carved out a map of the underground realm. There were many pieces indicating where different threats were.
Ranthor saw the people around the table were Ounz and Rastran to his left.
To his right was a man in his late thirties clad in iron armor. He was the new chief of the City Guard, Lord Kaen.
Also sat at that table was Hogolsworth’s greatest magus and Cheif of regulations. He was around the same age as Lord Kaen, going by the name of Misral.
These four were the heads of this mission against the underground realm.
As Ranthor stood before them with his hands placed beside his shoulders, they began to speak.
"Ranthor, you have been chosen to enter the underground realm." Ounz was the first to say, "But you already know that."
"Yes, Lord!" Ranthor promptly replied. He wasn’t a disrespectful person to those who shared his goals.
"Through the Grand Magus’ magic, we have been able to look into the underground realm and chart a lot of the area," Rastran said.
He continued, "And now, we have developed the technology to send people into the underground realm."
He paused, giving Ranthor the time to nod.
"Your job will be simple. A lifeline will be attached to your soul, and whenever your timer runs out, you will be pulled back into the upper realm from down below. However, we can not forcefully pull you out, so there is no guarantee of your safety. You understand this, right?"
Ranthor promptly nodded, "I am prepared." He knew that ever since Lyrian had taught him a bit of how to fight, his training since then had gotten him even stronger.
At that moment, Hyren also entered the marquee and stood beside Ranthor.
Ranthor looked back at him in slight confusion.
"W-what are you doing here?" Ranthor confusedly asked, but was only met with Hyren’s smile.
"Ah, I see you’ve arrived," Rastran said.
"Ranthor." Misral spoke, "Sorry we forgot to tell you, but upon his own special request, we have also granted Hyren permission to come along with you on this quest."
Hyren spoke at that moment, "I will see for myself just who Lyrian Theageld is."
Everyone paused for a moment after he said this. freewēbnoveℓ.com
Ounz especially wanted to deny that Lyrian was with the Black Petal Sect but knew that it would have been foolish to rule that option out.
"Remember, that is not your main job," Kaen spoke, his hands crossed and his eyes closed.
"You both will investigate as much as you can down there. We don’t have the resources to do this many more times. Note their soldiers, their weaknesses, and their strengths. Most of all, take note of their future plans. In war, knowing the enemy’s plans is what brings you victory."
Both Ranthor and Hyren nodded along on hearing this.
"Close to a week from now. That is when you will be transported. Remember... do not forget your jobs."
Rastran exclaimed, dismissing the two young men.
After this, they made thier way out of the room.
*6 Days Later*
Ranthor and Hyren stood in the same marquee room again.
This time, instead of at the front of it, they stood at the back.
They were clothed in similar garments to what the underground boys would wear.
Slightly armored leather clothing with shoulder, knee, and wrist pads.
Misral stood in front of them, as the other three sat back and watched.
With that, the magus lifted his staff and encircled it around the boys.
"By the speed of Hermes, I shall bestow upon thee travel as power. Give to me the strength, oh Supreme Speedster, to uphold my vows."
At once, they were developed in a blue light.
"Remember, once you go in, act smartly. Do not forget your job. Your success is crucial to the entire overworld."
Kaen made sure to say sternly.
The two were determined. Thier eyes were locked on and brows furrowed, ready to take the underground realm head-on.
The blue light around them condensed in the center of their chests.
It condensed in thier soul, linking Misral’s mana to their soul as a magical rope-line in between realms.
After that, they instantly disappeared, leaving not a single trace on the ground on which they had previously stood.
Misral took a step back.
"Hopefully, they come out safe." He said.
Kaen sneered slightly, "They are going to the Black Petal Sects hub. They will get injured. As long as they come out in single pieces, that’s fine enough for me."

"And now, ladies and gentlemen! The first battle shall begin. What do we think? Shall we start off with an easy one? Should we go for an easy first kill, or should we go for a battle!?"
The announcer stood in the middle of the coliseum and yelled.
The entire crowd roared in an astounding, "FIRST KILL!"
This meant that they wanted to see something get brutally overpowered and murdered.
It was commonplace, a tradition of sorts, to have easy blood spilled first before starting any competition.
So, out from the side gates of the coliseum was unleashed a giant, grizzly-looking ogre.
Its face was ugly, with multiple scars and pimples surrounding it. Normally, ogres weren’t so bad, but clearly, this one was created to be especially bad-looking.
It had drool spilling all over its face, and its dirty body was pretty much naked.
Next, the gate opposite the one it came through from opened up.
And from there, a knight forcibly kicked a woman out into the coliseum.
She was already crying, her hands chained. She was clearly a slave.
As the crowd saw this, they erupted into cheer.
