Chapter 23: Late Night With Nyx

"You didn’t answer my question," Lucien replied, tilting his head, his mismatched eyes locking onto hers with a dominant intensity that made her smile widen.

"This is the crew members wing, not where you stay. Are you tracking me, or do you just miss the ’perverted human’ you dragged away from the light?"

Nyx let out a soft, melodic laugh, stepping close enough that the chilling aura of her shadow magic brushed against his chest.

"Don’t flatter yourself too much, little priest. I am the overseer of this mansion. I go where I please. Though, I must admit..."

She leaned in slightly, her golden eyes scanning his face with a hint of suspicion. "Your presence feels... heavier than it did this morning. Did you find something amusing in this mansion?"

Lucien’s heart didn’t skip a beat. He took a deliberate step forward, crowding her space, forcing the powerful dark entity to slightly tilt her head up to maintain eye contact.

"Well I find your father’s mansion very..... amusing," Lucien murmured, his voice dropping into a low, intoxicating register.

Nyx’s eyes flared with interest, completely missing the fact that her sister and one of her crew member were currently safe and warm in the bed just two doors down.

"I’d actually like to speak with you about something," Lucien said, his voice dropping into a quieter, more earnest register.

Nyx arched an eyebrow, her analytical gaze scanning his face for a long moment before that dangerous, seductive smile returned to her lips. "Very well. Follow me."

She turned and glided down the hallway, her dark gown trailing shadows along the polished obsidian floorboards.

Lucien followed her up a winding spiral staircase that led to the very crest of the sprawling estate.

"Wait." He said, halting his steps, while his eyes got fixed on one direction.

"What is it?" Shea died turning around to see him facing a big frame. "Ohhh."

"Who is this?" He asked staring at the beautiful woman in the frame.

"Well take a guess."

"I see where your beauty comes from. Your mother." He replied, staring at the woman, so beautiful, she had very light purple hairs and big purple eyes, she was incredibly so perfect.

"She’s beautiful isn’t she?"

"Yes very much beautiful....I wonder where Lucifer’s picture is, I would like to see what he was like," he said.

His shoulder length grey hair falling on his face, making his handsomeness undeniably attractive, she was even taken back for a sec like a gold of light just shone brightly on her face.

"Well it’s not found on the walls, I’ll show you after you’re done talking." She smiled at him while he nodded and walked away with her.

She pushed open a heavy iron grate, stepping out onto a secluded, high-altitude terrace that overlooked the entire valley below.

Up here, the air was crisp and completely still. The quiet weight of the massive estate fell away, replaced by the serene view of distant, jagged peaks.

Above them, the sky was a deep, velvet canvas dusted with a sea of calm, brilliant stars and a glowing, silver crescent moon.

Nyx walked over to the edge of the stone balustrade, resting her forearms against the cold stone as the night breeze caught her hair.

"This is my quiet spot," she murmured, her voice losing its usual sharp, mocking edge. "Whenever the weight of running this place gets too loud, I come up here. I love being here. The world feels... manageable from this high up."

She sighed, a heavy, uncharacteristic sound, before looking directly into his eyes. "You said you wanted to speak. What’s on your mind, Lucien?"

Lucien stepped up beside her, leaning his hands against the balustrade. He stared out at the glittering stars for a moment, carefully masking the true weight of the question he was about to ask.

When he finally looked at her, his red and greenish-blue eyes were steady. "How did Lucifer die?"

Nyx stiffened noticeably, the ambient shadows around her ankles flaring for a split second before calming down.

She looked back out at the horizon, her grip tightening on the stone balustrade.

"To be completely honest... I’m not entirely sure," Nyx admitted, her tone turning deeply reflective.

"The truth has been buried under eons of propaganda and myth, but there are a few stories that carry weight." She paused.

"The most prominent one is a tragedy of betrayal. They say the fallen angels ganged up on him, turning on their own king. They managed to overpower him and allegedly killed him using his own weapon—the ’Primordial Dawn Spear’."

She paused, her breath hitching slightly. "The spear vanished after that night. My mother was the one who managed to steal and hide it, and she is the only soul alive who knows its true location.

That is the real reason the fallen angels kidnapped her and took her away...they are trying to break her mind to find it. You see, back then, Lucifer was supposed to be completely immortal.

But the records say he hadn’t fully consolidated his primordial divinity yet he hadn’t gained absolute immortality. That was the only reason a weapon as powerful as his own spear could actually end his life, and that spear could end any immortal being, that is why they still want it."

Lucien listened intently, his heart thudding against his ribs as his ancient, locked memories vibrated in response to her words. "And what happened to the rest of his legacy?"

"Scattered to the winds," Nyx replied quietly. "When his core ruptured, his most powerful artifacts which I don’t know of, were scattered across the earth, hidden away in ancient, untraceable realms. freēwēbnovel.com

Some people believe this story blindly. But others..." She trailed off, a faint, cynical smile touching her lips.

"Others don’t believe he could ever die. There’s a faction that insists Lucifer was too smart to be caught, that he simply disappeared or chose to cast a massive, spell to make the entire universe forget his true face until he was ready to return."

Lucien turned his body fully toward her, his gaze intense. "And what about you, Nyx? What do you believe?"

Nyx didn’t answer right away. She looked up at the endless night sky, her golden eyes searching for the stars.

"I believe my father is still out there," she said softly, her voice carrying a deep, unshakeable conviction. "I don’t believe the fallen were truly successful. Even if his physical body died that night, he would still be alive somehow."

"How?" Lucien asked, stepping a fraction closer. "If his core was shattered, how could he survive?"

"Because I trust my father," Nyx said, turning to face him fully. "He was always ten steps ahead of everyone. He will surely come back again. Either his soul still wanders the lower realms, waiting for the right vessel, or he has already been reborn into a new life, biding his time."
