Chapter 198: Finally Here
I could tell from their responses that they were already quite drunk. Regardless, I found their responses very funny and entertaining. Perhaps, meeting them this way was much better than meeting them in a serious or formal setting. I smiled and laughed a little along with them. Everyone seemed so kind and humble.
We took our seats at the table where the generals were having fun drinking and chatting. Shin seemed to be a in very good mood too and for once he didn’t seem overly concerned about something. I wondered if it was fine for everyone to be so drunk and carefree like this during war. It was true that we were successful in pushing the enemy back, but the war wasn’t over yet.
“Ren...” I called Ren softly.
“What is it?” he asked as he leaned his head my way to lend me an ear.
“Is it ok for everyone to be so drunk? ...the war is still going on so...” I asked hesitantly.
“It’s ok. Not everyone is drunk. There are unlucky soldiers and some generals that are not participating in the celebration, sadly...” Ren replied reassuringly.
“Oh...I see...” I replied.
“Want to go for a ride?” Ren suggested.
“Right now?” I asked, a little surprised at his sudden invitation.
“Yes, right now,” Ren replied.
“...ok,” I replied, slightly confused. fгeewebnovёl.com
Ren excused us out of the tent very quickly before leading me to the stables where the horses were kept. I haven’t been here before. It wasn’t long before Ren found his horse and got on before he helped me on behind him.
“Hold on to me...” Ren instructed, and I did like I was told.
“Where are we going?” I asked.
It was quite late in the evening, and it was dark.
“Let’s grab a torch light. Can you carry one?” Ren asked.
“I’ll try...” I replied, realizing that he still hadn’t told me where we were going yet.
Ren grabbed a torch light from the side of the path and handed it to me before he grabbed another one and held it. With Ren’s urging the horse broke into a gallop. I hugged Ren’s waist tighter to hang on. We rode the horse along a small and dark path with the torch lights that we were holding as the main source of light. The moonlight above helped us a little, but it was still hard to see very far ahead.
I wondered where Ren wanted to go so badly this late into the night. We were also alone, and I prayed that nothing dangerous would happen. I wasn’t scared because Ren was with me, but I was worried about leaving camp at night. It wasn’t long before the horse slowed down at Ren’s instruction. I looked around as the horse came to a walk and I started to get the feeling that I’ve been here before.
Although it was dark, something about the path seemed very familiar. Perhaps it was just a feeling, but I honestly believed that I was very used to this small and narrow path through the forest. After a short while, my suspicions were confirmed when the horse led us out from the forest into the clearing.
Ren and I both held up the torch so that we could see further ahead. I gasped in shock as my hand flew to cover my mouth at what I was seeing right in front of me. It was dark but I was sure that that was my house...
“Ren...” I whispered his name, not know what else to say.
“Welcome back home...” Ren said.
“Wow...I never thought that I’ll get to come back here...” I whispered still very shocked that I was finally back here.
I couldn’t believe that Ren brought me back here. Ren got off his horse when we came close enough to the house and then he helped me down.
“Thank you...Ren...” I thanked him as I felt tears of joy swimming in my eyes.
“You’re welcome. Sorry that it took some time for this to happen. We just managed to push the enemy army back to free up this part of land the day before...” Ren said before he smiled adoringly down at me.
My chest felt so tight, and I was so thankful to him. It was very hard to put my feelings into words, so I hugged him tightly to me instead.
“Thank you so much, Ren. I really miss this place after all,” I confessed honestly as I buried my face into his chest.
“Let’s go inside...” Ren said, and I nodded in agreement.
Using the torch to provide light, I was surprised at how unchanged the place was. I had thought that some animals would ransack the place after I had left it deserted for so long. However, the exterior of the place seemed fine although weeds have grown in the garden and around the house. The interior was also the same as I had left it. It was all just like I had remembered but with a bit more dust and dirt here and there. freewebnovёl.ƈom
“Wow. Not much has changed. It’s a little dirty though...” I said with relief.
I quickly looked for the broom where I usually stored it before I started cleaning around the dining table and then wiping the table’s surface. Just needed to make sure that it was clean enough for us to sit on. It wasn’t like we were going to come back and live here. I knew that...
“Sorry, that took a while, I just wanted to clean up a bit so that we can sit. It’s dusty and...” I started explaining.
“It’s ok. I didn’t bring you back here for you to clean up the place,” Ren said before laughing softly.
I guess he was right. Ren sat down and I did too after lighting up the lamp and some candles. Thankfully I still had enough of those in the house. I’m back home finally. It felt so nostalgic to be back here. The last time that I walked through the door of this house to go outside, I never dreamt that I would embark on such a long and adventurous journey. I glanced over at Ren, who I found during that journey of mine.
