Chapter 170: His Mercy

“Ren...” I called out his name lovingly.

Ren thrusted wildly into me a couple of times before he climaxed. I closed my eyes in bliss as he filled me with his heat. I stayed still as his cock shot his hot seed deep into my womb. As always, there’s so much of it.

...

We laid side by side on the bed exhausted from our intense love making. Ren looked at me and I smiled a little at him. He pulled me into a hug, and I gladly accepted. His arms around me felt so warm and secure. I was glad that I could experience peace like this in Ren’s arms once again. It wasn’t easy to return to how we were, although, I would like to think that our relationship had gotten stronger after we had made up.

“Ren...” I called out to him softly.

“Hmm?” Ren made a questioning sound.

“Is it possible for you to help lower Jeely’s punishment? Jeely belongs to you so...” I asked feeling slightly hopeful.

I did promise Shin that I wouldn’t push Ren but asking a little wouldn’t count as pushing him, right?

“Did Shin tell you this? He’s so meddlesome...” Ren replied, sounding slightly annoyed.

“Please don’t blame him. I was the one who asked...” I quickly defended Shin.

Ren narrowed his eyes at me before shaking his head slowly.

“I won’t go easy on her just because you ask...” Ren said firmly.

I could understand where he’s coming from. If all men listened to the women that they slept with, then there wouldn’t be any laws or any order.

“I understand. When is her trial?” I asked.

“In two days...” Ren replied flatly.

“Would it...be possible for me to attend the trial session?” I asked softly.

Ren looked at me like I had said the most outrageous thing ever. Well, perhaps I just did...

Sorry Shin...I guess I am pushing Ren too far after all...

“I can’t let you attend the trial...” Ren stated firmly. ƒгeewёbnovel.com

I knew that that would be his response, but I couldn’t help feeling disappointed. He was probably right. I’m not directly related to the trial so it wouldn’t make sense for me to sit in.

“You can join the meeting between the court members. I’ll be there as well, naturally. That part is the most important because that meeting will decide Jeely’s punishment...and if you have something to say as the victim of one of her crimes then I will allow you to do so,” Ren said emotionlessly.

“Ren...thank you so much!” I exclaimed with so much happiness that I started hugging him.

Wrapped up in my own moment of happiness, I placed a kiss on Ren’s cheek before I smiled adoringly at him.

“Rin, I don’t know what you are hoping for, but let me tell you this so you don’t get your hopes crushed. This will cost Jeely at least her life,” Ren said sternly as his eyes met mine to ensure that I fully understood what he was saying.

I see. After all is said and done, Jeely cannot be spared...

I lowered my eyes and nodded my head slightly at Ren’s direct words and warning.

...

**Two weeks later**

Ren held me as my own sobs wrecked my body. I trembled as I cried in his arms, burying my face into his chest. My tears wetted the front of his robe. I never knew that losing a friend could hurt this badly. Jeely’s execution also acted as a harsh punishment for me and my past foolishness. Ren was silent as he held me close to his body. He probably didn’t know just how much his presence comforted me that day.

Today was the day that Jeely would be publicly executed. I didn’t want to know the details, nor did I want to see it. However, everyone in the palace had been talking about it non-stop for days leading to her actual execution since the day that it was announced. It hurt me so much to hear people talking about her execution as if they were looking forward to it.

I learnt that there were resentment, jealousy, and anger behind people’s kind smiles. Many people who acted in support of Jeely when she was in her favorable position now acted like they couldn’t wait for her to die. It was a very sad situation or me to witness. I shivered whenever I thought about how Jeely must be feeling.

As Ren had suggested, I had attended the court meeting where I pleaded for her punishment to be lowered. Just as Ren had warned me, the court members were adamant about her execution. Ren, too, was completely in support for her execution and he didn’t bother to hide it in front of me. I remembered crying right there in the room when Ren agreed to her execution without a second thought.

Where was the mercy that Shin had mentioned? freewёbnoνel.com

“What do you think of additional punishment for this case, crown prince?” a senior member of the high court turned to ask Ren.

Additional punishment? There’s more?

“A woman sent as part of a political alliance represents her town and her people. Her treason is equal to that of her homeland committing treason against the empire. I humbly suggest for your highness to consider punishment for her homeland and its people,” another member suggested before bowing his head low.

My eyes widened in shock. They’re going to punish the people in her town along with her? That’s crazy! Now that I think about it, I think Ren told me something like this before. My body shook in fear. Ren...he won’t allow such a thing, right? I turned to look at him in a panic.

“That won’t be necessary. I don’t want to handle anymore battles and unrest in my lands. Let’s just proceed with her execution and let that be that,” Ren replied calmly.

Had Ren anticipated this all along? Was this the mercy that Shin was taking about? He couldn’t and wouldn’t save Jeely but at least, he would save her people.

“If no one else has any other concerns or objections, we will proceed with the crown prince’s decision for this matter,” the head of the high court said.

With nods and murmurs of agreement, the session came to an end.
