“If you don’t think of yourself, you should think of your future child. You’ve already slept with him, right? You could already be with child,” Shin said casually.
I couldn’t blame him for his words because he probably didn’t know how much it impacted me. Once again, Shin was thinking for my own good. I bit my lower lip as my hand instinctively touched my abdomen. I didn’t just sleep with Ren; we’ve done it so many times...
When we finally arrived at Ren’s palace, Shin led me to his study where we found Ren sitting with a frown on his face at his work desk. I remembered the last time I was here, I helped him clean up the room and organized documents. It was a very fun day with a light and cheerful atmosphere. Although it was the exact same room, the atmosphere was dark and overly serious today.
“Why did you bring her here?” Ren spoke up without looking in our direction.
“Lady White Lotus would like to speak to you. I’ll take my leave now,” Shin said and quickly excused himself.
I watched as Shin left the room and closed the door after him. Now I was alone with Ren, and I felt the temperature of the room drop a few degrees. I am so nervous!
Pushing my anxiousness and fear to the side, I quickly approached Ren and sat down in the seat opposite from him. Ren still wouldn’t look up at me. He seemed very preoccupied with reading some report. I sucked in a deep breath and mustered up my courage. I am doing this to save Jeely’s life!
I’ve heard it many times and I didn’t need any reminder on what the punishment for treason were. Jeely is innocent and she shouldn’t have to be punished like that.
“Ren. I’m sure that there’s some mistake about Jeely’s arrest. There’s no way that she would commit treason. Please reconsider!” I said before bowing my head low to the table. freewebnøvel.com
I heard Ren let out a loud sigh before the documents in his hand hit the table.
“Raise your head,” Ren said.
Slowly, I raised my head as I was told. Ren seemed tired and drained of energy. I guess Shin wasn’t joking when he said that Ren had been busy.
“Ren...please help Jeely...” I pleaded.
“Is that why you’re here? If so, you may leave,” Ren said before gesturing to the door with his hand.
“There’s got to be some mistake. Jeely is such a devoted woman. Everyone in the inner court looks up to her. There’s just no way that she would commit a crime,” I continued to plead my case.
“If Jeely is innocent then I’ve made a mistake. Are you accusing me of making a mistake, My Lady?” Ren said and his eyes narrowed at me.
“I...I’m saying that it could just be a...misunderstanding...” I muttered in response. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
“Jeely’s punishment was decided by the high court. Of course, I was the one who pressed charges against her,” Ren said calmly.
“You were the one?!” I exclaimed, unable to contain my shock.
“Listen, Rin. Jeely is a traitor. She has been for a very long time...” Ren explained, sounding unusually calm.
“What do you mean?” I asked in a whisper.
“Her crimes are endless. Perhaps some of it is my fault. You see, when I decide to look away people sometime mistakenly think that I am just an ignorant fool. They don’t see that I have mercy on them. They simply think that I’m just dumb and blind. Completely unknowing...” Ren said before sighing.
“What are you talking about?” I asked, not quite following.
“If she had continued in her old ways without adding to her crimes, I would have gladly looked the other way and ignored it. However, her crimes just evolved into something so treacherous that I can no longer ignore,” Ren continued to explain.
“What exactly is her crime?” I demanded to know.
“Infidelity is one. Although I personally don’t support the idea, all women in my inner court are my legal property. It doesn’t matter what I think, that is simply the law,” Ren said coldly.
“Jeely would never sleep with another man,” I said stubbornly.
“Jeely is extremely ambitious. Of all the men she could have her pick, she chose to sleep with my younger brother. That’s right, Kin and Jeely has been engaged in a very passion affair for years...” Ren said as if the whole affair didn’t bother him.
Perhaps, it really didn’t...
“That can’t be...” I gasped in shock at this new piece of information.
“To be entirely truthful, I found out about their specific case only recently when she was brought to my attention by you. She was your personal tutor, after all. So, when the incident between you and my brother occurred, naturally, I had Shin check her out...” Ren said patiently.
“So, you didn’t know before that? I thought you said you knew for a very long time...” I asked in confusion.
“I did but not directly. As I told you before, I can’t put a face to Jeely’s name before you introduced her to me. Before then, I’ve received reports of my dear younger brother sneaking into my inner court to bed my women. Contrary to the norms, I didn’t mind at all,” Ren said followed by a little laugh of amusement.
“Oh...” I murmured. I guess it made sense...I did meet Prince Kin in Ren’s inner court before...
“Jeely’s case was specifically brought to my attention because it didn’t follow the usual pattern of how Kin does things. You see, usually, if he favors any of my women after bedding them, he would come to me to ask for her to be transferred to his inner court directly. That’s one thing that I like about Kin. When it comes to women, he usually would ask me directly to have her. Of course, in all cases in the past, I have readily agreed without issue,” Ren continued to explain.
“But Jeely chose to stay?” I asked, finding all of this very confusion. Was it even true that Jeely was having an affair?
