Chapter 160: Fallen Angel
“Auntie...why is Jeely being arrested? This must be some kind of mistake...” I said, still stunned at what I was witnessing.
“Treason. The crown prince ordered for her arrest on grounds of treason...” Auntie murmured softly.
Ren ordered Jeely to be arrested for committing treason?
She had started to cry openly now. I watched as wet drops of tears rolled down both her cheeks. Jeely grew up in this inner court since she was a little child. To Auntie, she must feel like her very own child. I wrapped an arm around Auntie’s shoulder in an attempt to comfort her as much as I could. I felt her body shaking from her sobs and it tore at my heart.
I wasn’t sure if it was my own imagination, but I believed that when Jeely past us on the pathway, our eyes met. She looked straight at me, but she didn’t say anything.
Jeely...this has to be some kind of mistake, right?
“Where are you going?” Auntie asked in a panic when I let go of her and started turning away.
“To see the crown prince!” I replied loudly before I started running off.
“No! Wait! My Lady, please come back!” Auntie called to me, but I just ignored her.
I’m sure that Ren made some mistake. If I can meet him and talk to him, I’m sure that we can still fix this. I ran so fast until I reached the front gate of the inner court. Obviously, it was closed and heavily guarded.
“Excuse me! Can you please open the gate?!” I screamed loudly to the guards who were positioned there.
“Lady White Lotus...” the guard mumbled as he looked at me with confusion.
“Can you please open the gate? I need to go see the crown prince...” I said, trying to sound calm.
“I’m sorry, My Lady. We aren’t allowed to let woman out of the inner court...” the guard stated firmly.
“Then...can one of you send my message to the crown prince?” I requested.
“There’s no need...”
I turned at the sound of a familiar voice.
“Shin...” I whispered.
“General Shin...” the guards bowed in unison at Shin’s sudden appearance. freewёbnoνel.com
“Shin...Jeely’s been arrested. I’m sure Ren made some sort of mistake. I need to talk to him. Can you please take me to him?” I asked pleadingly.
A look of discomfort crossed Shin’s face as he looked down at me from his horse. I held my breath as I waited for his reply.
“Please...” I pleaded once more.
“Ren wouldn’t make that sort of mistake...” Shin said calmly.
“It can’t be. Please, just let me talk to him!” I begged louder.
Shin looked hesitant before turning to the guard signaling that he could open the gates for me. With Shin’s help, I got on his horse, and we headed towards Ren’s palace. It was a ride away before we would arrive at Ren’s palace and Shin decided to talk to me while we were on his horse.
“Don’t do anything reckless please...” Shin warned.
“Thank you, Shin...” I said softly as I rode on the back of his horse.
“I’m doing this as a favor to you but please promise me not to push Ren too far. As I said, Ren wouldn’t make a mistake about something like this...” Shin said calmly.
“But I don’t believe that Jeely would commit a crime like treason. Jeely is the perfect lady. She would never do such a thing,” I said with confidence.
“Can you promise me one thing?” Shin asked and I could tell that he was very serious.
“What is it?” I asked softly.
“Promise me that you will listen to what Ren has to say. If he doesn’t explain, then please kindly ask him until he does. Never...ever...assume anything by yourself. Can you promise me that?” Shin asked.
“Ok. I promise...” I replied.
Of course, I will listen to whatever Ren has to say. I’m willing to listen and I pray that he would be willing to explain everything to me.
“Ren...I haven’t seen him since that day you let me out of his room...” I said hesitantly. Truthfully, I wanted to ask if Ren was doing ok.
“Ren’s fine. He’s just been busy. That said, I wouldn’t go as far as to say that you’re not on his troubled mind,” Shin said as if he could read my thoughts.
“Do you think that he’s mad at me?” I asked.
“I’m not sure to be honest. Sometimes Ren can be very hard to read,” Shin replied with a loud sigh.
“I see...” I mumbled in a defeated voice.
I was in such a rush to get to Ren so that I could save Jeely that I had forgotten for a moment that we didn’t really part ways on great terms. The last time we met we ended up fighting and then with Shin’s help, I had escaped from his confinement. It’s been many days since then that I haven’t seen Ren and he had not sought after me.
I was just talking to Ren about her love for him a few days ago. It couldn’t be. Is Jeely being punished for the things that I said? I couldn’t understand why what I told Ren about her would lead to her punishment; however, if it did, then all of this is my fault. Being punished like this would break her heart. She loves Ren so dearly. Her punishment is all my fault; I need to fix this and fast.
“I truly suggest that you make up with Ren,” Shin suggested suddenly.
“Huh?” I said cluelessly.
“Ren might be angry, but he doesn’t do anything without good reason. He cares about you more than you think. He can get quite rough though...as I’m sure that you’ve already found out in your own way...” Shin said with a small laugh to lighten the mood.
I knew that Shin was trying to cheer me up and encourage me while giving me serious and solid advice. It would great if Ren would open up and discuss things with me. Apparently, that was something that both of us found quite hard to do.
