Chapter 149: You Found Me

“What happened just now was crazy!” freewebnøvel.coɱ

“I know, right. Where did that mad beast come from?”

“I just heard that it’s all good now. Some guy managed to stop the horse and calmed it down,”

“Really? Wow...who would have thought that was possible...”

The sound of two men chatting loudly brought me back to my senses. They just mentioned that someone had managed to calm down the horse that was causing trouble earlier. For some reason that I could not place, I knew immediately that the man those men were talking about had to be Ren.

As if some magical spell had been casted on me, my legs regained strength and so did my resolve. Without any struggle and without any more thoughts, I was heading out of the alley back to the main road. My destination was clear in my mind. I wasn’t sure if he was there, but I have to go there.

I must make it back to the town square where the festival was. I must make it back to Ren.

...

The sun had just set, and the sky was quickly turning dark. Still unable to find any trances of the woman that he had been desperately searching for, Ren felt helpless. He thought about going back to his horse and then back to the palace so that they can finally launch a search party for her.

He only allowed a moment for him to feel depressed because he knew that it was useless. He’s going to find her and bring her back. It was that simple. Now what he needed to do was head back to his horse as fast as possible.

With that thought in mind, Ren started running towards the town square. He felt a little tinge of hope that perhaps Rin would be waiting for him there, but he killed that little spark of hope himself. It’s very late now and so much time had already passed. It would be near to impossible for Rin to be waiting for him there.

When Ren arrived back at the town square the place was almost completely deserted. The stalls had closed, and the temporary structures had been taken down, clearing the townhall. Few merchants that were still packing up were the only ones around. He walked further into the center of the town square, and he froze.

Ren’s eyes widened in disbelief before blinking rapidly as if to process what he was seeing. His breath caught in his throat before a sense of relief flooded into his body. He had never felt this ecstatic about seeing anyone before in his life.

There standing aimlessly in the middle of the town square was the woman that he had been looking for.

“Rin...” he whispered her name softly.

...

It’s getting dark and I’m just standing here like I had no real purpose in life. I was really convinced on my way here that I would definitely be reunited with Ren, and we would ride on his horse back the palace together. Everything would be smooth and easy. Clearly, that was not how reality worked. I’ve been standing here for a while now after I had tried to look for Ren around the town square when I had first arrived.

Still...there were no signs of Ren. It was slowly getting darker and darker. The wind blowing against my face felt colder as well. If I can’t find Ren here, what should I do? Asking around for general directions to the palace wouldn’t be too hard, I guess?

But we did ride quite far. Can I really make it back alone on foot?

“Rin!”

I thought I heard a familiar voice calling my name but figured that I had imagined it. Missing Ren too much in my desperation to find him must be driving me insane. I’m already hearing his voice when he’s not even here. How creepy is that honestly?

“Rin!” frёewebnoѵēl.com

This time I heard Ren’s voice calling my name loud and clear. Perhaps, I didn’t imagine it all in my head after all. Just when I thought that I received the best confirmation when I felt a firm grip on my wrist before my body was spun around. The next thing I knew, I was already in Ren’s arms as he hugged me tightly to his firm body.

His familiar heat enveloped me as his body shielded me from the cold wind. I could feel his body quivering as he panted. He must have ran here from wherever he came. I brought up my arms as I hugged him in return, feeling his arms tighten their hold around me.

“Ren...you found me...” I whispered before I felt tears of joy and relief stinging my eyes.

He found me at last and I couldn’t be happier. Finally, we can go back to the palace and back to our peaceful lives. When I felt his arms wrapped around me and him pulling me into a hug, I knew instinctively that I had made the right choice.

I have chosen to stay with this man.

After a while, Ren finally relaxed his hold on my body and brought some space in between us as he held me by the shoulder at arm’s length.

“Where have you been all this time?! I looked for you everywhere!” Ren shouted.

I gulped in fear at his aggressive reaction. It was clear that Ren was upset and extremely angry. Our sweet and loving reunion quickly came to an end.

“I...got lost...” I mumbled in reply.

Why was Ren so mad? I’m back now...so what’s the big deal?

“You’re going to tell me everything that happened when we’re back at the palace,” Ren said curtly as he grabbed my wrist and pulled me behind him towards where he had tied up his horse.

The ride back to the palace was a stark contrast to our ride to the festival earlier in the day. It was dark and the street was dead quiet. All signs of the festival and the cheerful atmosphere was gone. The incident served as an unfortunate end to the festival. I found out later that no one died from the incident; however, many were seriously injured.
