Chapter 51: 51-Shopping
Nytherael made the first stop at the most famous poison shop in Sserath Vein. He switched from his bags of gold shards in his storage space and moved to the essence cores.
Abyssal beasts rarely traded in shards. The few that did are the rare ones that balance life in the abyss and on the surface.
The black city that always seemed to be night at all times was famous for its preference for essence core. One essence core was equivalent to one hundred gold shards, which is why the beasts on land rarely traded with the Abyssal beasts. They are too expensive.
But for him, who was extremely rich and could afford all forms of payment, he didn’t mind a little shopping shree in the heart of his beloved’s city.
The building he entered had black walls built in with hard marble and powered by a frost core that kept the building cold at all times.
Since serpents and Abyssal beasts preferred cold areas, all establishments in the coil were made to a freezing degree. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
Nythereal adjusted the temperature of his skin. He walked in confidently and perused around for a gift good enough for his beloved. fгeewebnovёl.com
He had a year and a half of absence to make up for, and crying up a river wasn’t going to melt the anger or hatred in their bond. Action would.
"A foxsss in Sserath Vein?" The shopkeeper was stunned.
After Sseraphis cursed the surface, most of the gateways to the Abyssal Coil on the ground were shut down. It reduced the number of land beasts entering the underworld greatly, so it surprised the shopkeeper to spot a fox in Abyssal Coil, that too in Sserath Vein, a city in the far outskirts of Abyssal Coil.
Despite his shock, he pulled himself together and approached with caution.
"Anything in particular you are looking for?" He asked in a voice tamed and polite.
"I wish to gift my beloved. He’s a snake, and I figured your shop would have the best options."
The purple serpent quickly lit up, his purple pupils twisted in dance as he got motivated to help Nytherael.
"A fox bonded to a snake. That is very strange and rare. Why don’t I help you decide on the gift?"
Nythereal smiled politely and accepted the offer, keeping in mind Sseraphis’s likes and dislikes.
"Our shop doesn’t trade in shards..." the shopkeeper let out. He wanted to make it known in case the currency Nythereal had on him in order to avoid wasting both his and Nytherael’s time.
Nytherael flashed his perfectly arranged white teeth before pulling out a bag and opening it. He emptied the contents on the counter.
The shopkeepers jaw dropped. His mouth salivating instantly over all the essence core he spotted on his counter. It was more essence core than he made in a year. Even two years isn’t enough for him to pull such a feet of essence cores in his shop.
Fire essence cores containing dragon flame were externally rare and were very valuable. One was worth more than five hundred hundred gold shards in the abyss even though on land it was worth one thousand gold shards.
Illusion cores that contain illusion from foxes were also very sought after, especially in an abyss without rules where all was fair as long you had the ability to back yourself up.
They tend to come in handy more than fire cores which is why there value differed from land, and it was worth one thousand gold shards in the abyss, while worth only five hundred gold shards on the surface.
Memory core which were serpent aligned weren’t rare in the Abyssal Coil as it was the common currency used in Abyssal Coil however, having so many memory cores, that too from a fox was a rare find.
What stunned the shopkeeper more was the frost cores, the cores that power every building in the Abyssal Coil, they were expensive and hard to acquire and as far as he knew. So, he couldn’t help but be wide-eyed at the numerous frost core on his counter.
"I can afford other methods of payment," Nytherael let out.
The shopkeeper smiled, pleased. He quickly rushed to the door and locked it shut before pulling down the curtains. He couldn’t have other beasts discovering the rare treasure that was Nytherael and steal his business.
"What would you like? Just let me know, and I’ll find it for you," he claimed, his eyes glued to the cores on the counter.
One, two, three, four... his eyes counted the cores until he felt dizzy and nearly collapsed.
"Why don’t you show me the best of everything you have, and I’ll see what I want."
"Rught away," the shopkeeper said. He did move to attend to the request, but he kept glancing back to ensure that Nytherael was still there and that the cores on his counter hadn’t moved.
Soon, he returned with a cart full of quality goods, the best his shop had to offer. Nytherael got to work, he thought back, and from his memories of living with Sseraphis, he started looking for the best gift for him.
He selected a rare poison-resistant tea that Sseraphis loved to drink as it calmed venom glands and suppressed heats. Mouse shaped desserts, scented silk robes infused with gold herbs, toxic carnivorous plants, and lastly, he picked an ancient venom tome.
A book full of poison recipes, snake clan history, assassination arts, and healing toxins. He remembered that Sseraphis loved to indulge in such books.
Once he was done picking, he looked up at the shopkeeper for the bill. The shopkeeper counted the items he bought, and the bill came to fifty frost cores, but he’d counted more than one hundred frost cores alone. How could he be satisfied with Nytherael’s limited choice.
He flashed an innocent smile and encouraged, "How can you send gifts without flowers?" He asked. "You’ve gotten your lover high-quality silk robes, but what about shoes? A book, what about a brush and ink to go with it? Tea, how about a tea set to go with it?"
By the time Nytherael was paying, the bags of gifts were more than his hands could carry. The shopkeeper kept making suggestions, and being that he was in a good mood of surprising Sseraphis, he kept agreeing.
At the end, he spent over a hundred frost essence cores. He put his hands on his waist, wondering how he was going to move all the gifts.
The shopkeeper showed up beside him with the same greedy sly smile. "We offer delivery too," he wiggled his eyebrows happily.
"Add it to the bill," Nytherael sighed.
