Chapter 212: Chapter 211:I thought you’d never ask.
"So, what brought you boys to this part of the world?" Auntie Shafrin, Malachi’s mother, asked as she placed plates of various delicious foods on the table.
Now, anybody who knew me, would know perfectly well how weak I was too delicious foods, so it wasn’t much of a surprise to Malachi and even Leo, when I started stuffing my face at the first serving..
"We..cahmd, shtu shtoap dha mushated dunshion bweak.. Gulp..."
"Haa.. sorry bout that, I tend to get overexcited when I see a feast." I scratched the back of my head, embarrassed..
"Hahaha... don’t mind dear, I’m just glad someone likes my cooking, just as much as my boys do." She smiled calmly, gesturing towards the table.
Turns out, I wasn’t the only one gorging down food like my life depended on it.
Malachi as well as his father, were currently head deep into their plates, the only reason I hadn’t noticed being because I was in the same position just now.
Hell, even Leo was gorging down food as fast as his beak could allow..
And he said human forms were inconvenient..
I shook my head wryly..
"So, why are you boys here?" She asked again.
"Oh, I said we were here to take care of the mutated dungeon break that happened." I replied, eager to go back to my meal before it went cold..
"Hmmm? Is that the one that happened at the Thousand mile mountains?" Son-Kai, Malachi’s father, asked, pausing his meal.
I turned to the man, the first thing I noticed was the massive black eye he was trying hard to play off with an intimidating expression..
"Sorry brother, but that ship has sailed." Black eyes seemed to be in rage these days, first Valen, now, this guy, I should really keep my distance, nevertheless, I answered,
"Yea, that one."
"I heard those shameless monks had lost quite a few of their young ones to those abominations, I had plans of sending some to check it out, but I guess that’s off the table now. Humph, as expected of my son!" The man huffed proudly as he patted Malachi’s head.
"So, how was it, was the fight difficult?" Shafrin asked.
"C’mon ma, we’re here, that should be answer enough right?" Malachi grinned, all prisitine whites being displayed.
"Hehehe.. I guess that’s true." Shafrin chuckled softly, as we all returned to our meals..
...
...
An unknown amount of empty dishes later, I was sprawled on their living room floor, stomach bloated like a pregnant lady, all will to do anything disappearing.
"Ahhh... your mother is really nice, monkey." I couldn’t help sighing in satisfaction..
"Hey, is that because you really think that, or because you’re bloated."
"Yes."
"Screw you!"
Scree
"We should be getting ready to leave."
"Huh? Why the hurry?" I asked, confused.
"Well, you guys aren’t doing anything sitting around here are you? Might as well get a move on and report the mission."
Leo shrugged, but before I could reply..
"Heh. Why are you boys in a hurry? There’s actually something that I need to speak to my son about, you can stay if you’re interested." The large figure of Son-Kai walked into the living room, a smile on his face.
"Huh? Dad? What are you talking about?" Malachi asked.
"The ancestor’s tomb, it’s finally opening!" He spoke up, voice solemn.
Malachi’s expression shifted drastically.
I slowly sat up, feeling the shift in the air.
"Impossible, it’s not meant to open for at least another few years." Malachi’s voice was the most serious I’d ever heard.
"That’s what we all thought, but apparently, we were wrong, it’ll be opening in three day’s time." His father replied, equally solemn.
"That means.."
"Yes, the race for the crown is about to begin.."
Both father and son suddenly fell quiet, their moods heavy.
The tone had shifted so quickly it took me time to adjust, but when I did, I finally asked,
"What tomb? What crown? What race?"
Son-Kai gave his son a look, receiving the go ahead, he finally addressed us,
"The tomb of our ancestors, belonging to the first stone monkeys to ever be born of the Essence of heaven and earth, it’s said that the first monkey king was buried there, along with the crown and soul weapon that made him a terror to the world during that era."
Hearing the words stone monkeys, crown, and soul weapon, only one thing came to mind.
"Damn, this bastard is going full throttle on his plagiarism!"
"So, tomb, ancestors, crown and staff. Got it."
"But what’s this nonsense about a race?"
"The "race for the crown." Is an event that occurs whenever multiple youths appear with the bloodline of the monkey king."
"There can only ever truly be one king in any era, so those chosen, will have to enter the tomb and hunt for the crown, the one who successfully finds both the crown and staff, shall become this era’s monkey king, and sole ruler of all the apes."
"Woah!" That was indeed something.
Talk about your wuxia novel inheritance hunt, I was suddenly excited.
"But, you guys don’t seem thrilled about the news." I couldn’t help asking, he had entered with a smile only for the mood to switch the moment the topic came up..
"Normally, I would be thrilled to have my son participate, but, the news came so suddenly I wasn’t prepared, it truly is a coincidence that you boys had just arrived whilst the news came, otherwise I would’ve had to pull little Kai from the academy, leaving him all the more underprepared."
There was that word. Coincidence.
I didn’t believe in coincidence.
On a whim we decided to visit a friend’s hometown, then out of the blue, some urgent inheritance ground opens up, leaving said friend with little room to prepare? If this didn’t smell like plot then nothing did, but I wasn’t complaining, not this time. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
"So, does Malachi need to go in alone?" I asked, just to be sure.
"He doesn’t, none of the heirs do. And that’s why I’m worried."
"The others from the other clans have all prepared their heirs rigorously for this event, since birth they’d been groomed to inherit such a position, connections were made, alliances forged, it would be a dining of some of the most talented youths in the stone monkey clan and others from outside that have been called in to help, but Kai here, well, you’ve met Shafrin, so.."
"Yea... tough." I could understand the man’s plight.
"Does that mean he won’t be participating then?" I asked, my disappointment evident.
"What? Fuck no!! Of course I am!" The monkey instantly rebutted..
"But Kai..."
"Don’t worry father, I’m not going in alone, I’ve got Dante and Leo here, trust me, that’s all the back up I’ll need."
"Those shameless monks will be coming as well, with some other forces that are interested in fishing in troubled waters."
"Let them." The monkey grinned savagely, "it’s an inheritance for the one true monkey king, no random fool will ever get their hands on it, now while I’m here."
His attention finally turned towards me and Leo.
"I don’t care what you do, just don’t bother me."
"Stinky chicken-cat..."
He ignored the grumpy Leo, his focus returning to me,
"So, my friend, what do you say? Wanna go kick some monkey butt with me?" He asked, grinning wildly..
"I thought you’d never ask." I replied..
This... was bound to be fun!
