"Kenneth Yates, are you still half-asleep? Do you even know what your own name is?"
"I’m not awake. Should we go back to sleep?" His innocent expression couldn’t fool Summer Lancaster. She knew exactly what he was thinking, so she shot up from her chair and backed away a few feet.
Seeing her drastic reaction, Kenneth Yates smiled with satisfaction. "What are you doing? I wasn’t asleep at all, so how could I need to wake up? You were the one sleeping so soundly you didn’t even notice I wasn’t beside you. And yes, I know perfectly well that my last name is Yates!"
Summer relaxed. So he was just teasing her.
But the moment her body relaxed, it tensed up again. Kenneth had suddenly stood up and hugged her, burying his head in the crook of her neck.
"You’re Mrs. Yates. You tell me what my last name is!"
"I..." Summer was so nervous that the words seemed to get stuck in her throat, leaving her speechless.
Kenneth loosened his embrace. Just as Summer closed her eyes, thinking he was about to kiss her, he suddenly let her go. When she opened them again, Kenneth was already gone, leaving her standing there at a complete loss.
"Get changed. I’m taking you out to eat." His voice came from the bedroom, instantly making Summer seethe with anger. He was clearly just messing with her.
"Kenneth Yates, can you stop being so childish? Do you think it’s fun to mess with me? How did I never realize you were this kind of person? Have you always been this sly? Why was I so blind to have fallen for you when we were kids..." After they both got changed, Kenneth took Summer’s hand and led her to the restaurant downstairs for a simple dinner. Summer was especially happy. Being able to eat a hearty meal after being extremely hungry was truly one of life’s greatest pleasures.
After returning home, a satisfied Summer flopped directly onto the bed, giggling foolishly. Kenneth walked over and loomed above her, startling a cry out of her.
"I just want to hold you!"

Night fell. The lights of the dazzling city gradually went out, plunging it into darkness. In the blackness, only the diamond rings on their hands seemed to glow. We promised to hold each other’s hands tightly in this cruel world and never back down.
The next day, Kenneth woke Summer right on schedule, pulling her from a sweet dream. Extremely reluctant, Summer pulled the covers over her head to go back to sleep, but Kenneth simply ripped the blanket off and scooped her up.
"Kenneth Yates, please, spare me! You’re the big boss. Do you have any idea how tired we salaried workers are? Can’t you just delay the start of the workday!" Summer mumbled, her eyes still squeezed shut.
"We’re not going to work. I’m taking you for a run to get some exercise!" With that, he kicked open the bathroom door and set Summer right on the vanity, revealing her long, fair legs.
Summer grabbed her hair in frustration. She was awake now, but she just didn’t want to move a muscle.
Kenneth squeezed toothpaste onto her toothbrush and handed it to her. "Brush them yourself."
Summer shot him a glare, then lowered her head to hide a mischievous smile. ’I won’t. Let’s see what he does about it.’ But just as Summer was feeling smug, Kenneth tilted her chin up and kissed her.
Then, he pulled away from her lips, a sly smile on his face. He picked up the toothbrush and handed it to Summer again. Summer was not happy. ’Next time, I’ll ambush him with a kiss and then make my own sly getaway.’
