Chapter 53: Chapter 52: The Light Chaser and the Dragon
Zhao Kai had lived a wretched life in recent years because, lacking the power to protect himself, he hadn’t dared reveal a fortune that was incongruous with his apparent strength.
After all, Zhao Kai had once been a Four-finger Creator!
Since the injuries he and his two Guardian Beasts suffered were considered fundamentally untreatable, Zhao Kai hadn’t needed to spend his entire fortune seeking help from everyone.
Even though Zhao Kai hadn’t intentionally amassed resources, the fortune he possessed was still quite substantial.
"Young Master, you may not know this, but I’m not a native of Starlight City. I came from Zhuxue City and only settled down here in the last few years."
"Before I left Zhuxue City, I converted all the resources I had into Federation Coins, the common currency of the Xin Xia Federation."
"I only dared to use small amounts of Federation Coins before, but now I no longer have to worry about it."
"All my wealth is in this Storage Pouch. Young Master, from now on, I’ll entrust it to your care."
Zhong Yi didn’t reach for the Storage Pouch Zhao Kai offered. Instead, he spoke with an extremely serious tone.
"Your wealth is yours to control. The Soul-Catching Gu Mother’s Insect Eggs are merely the beginning of our bond."
"But rather than a controlling relationship between master and servant, I hope we can see each other as partners."
Zhao Kai smiled at his words, no longer dwelling on who should control the fortune.
Zhao Kai had mentally prepared himself to be controlled. After all, there was immense value to be gained from exploiting a Four-finger Creator.
But now it seemed the young man before him had no intention of doing so.
’Partners?’ In his heart, Zhao Kai quietly rejected the term.
’The young man before me is the light of my salvation!’
’For the rest of my life, I will be a Light Chaser—one who guards the light and follows it!’
Soon, Zhao Kai returned with a large quantity of fresh meat and blood. He activated his Soul Base in the spacious courtyard behind the shop.
Immediately, Zhong Yi was hit by a nauseating, putrid stench as two behemoths appeared, all but filling the spacious courtyard.
One of the Earth Dragons was nearly twenty meters long. Its head, neck, spine, and tail were covered in thick, greenish-brown, conical Bone Spikes.
However, most of these Bone Spikes were broken, and the umbrella-like exoskeleton covering its head was riddled with cracks.
Its tough, shield-like hide bore many wounds that had yet to fully heal, and a massive, purplish-black abscess nearly two meters in diameter festered on its abdomen.
A mixture of yellowish-green and purplish-black pus oozed incessantly from the enormous abscess, the source of most of the putrid stench filling the courtyard.
The other Earth Dragon was far larger than the one with the greenish-brown, conical Bone Spikes.
It was nearly forty meters long, its entire body clad in thick, dark-brown Scale Armor that was almost reflective.
The Earth Dragon’s body was long and slender, but it stood less than seven meters tall. From a distance, its shape vaguely resembled that of a giant scorpion.
This massive Earth Dragon’s tail ended in a Tail Hammer larger than a juvenile Giant Horror Demon.
Although the surface of the Tail Hammer appeared perfectly smooth, Zhong Yi didn’t doubt the terrifying power it could unleash. The bludgeon was roughly a quarter of the beast’s total body length.
However, both the Tail Hammer and the thick, armor-like Scale Armor were covered in a web of cracks, like shattered tempered glass.
Bright red Dragon Blood, tinged with a faint golden light, seeped from the cracks in its Scale Armor and Tail Hammer.
The aura of this massive Earth Armor Dragon seemed even weaker than that of the other, poisoned Earth Dragon.
As Zhao Kai activated his Soul Base, Zhong Yi realized that this larger Earth Armor Dragon was Zhao Kai’s Lifebound Guardian Beast.
A Lifebound Guardian Beast can be nurtured within its master’s Soul Base, allowing it to slowly recover from all but the most severe injuries.
Yet this Earth Armor Dragon’s aura was incredibly faint. Its internal organs must have suffered severe trauma; some may have even been ruptured. freewebnoveℓ.com
Zhong Yi used All Things Exploration to inspect Zhao Kai’s two Guardian Beasts. He learned their names were Shield Crystal Armor Dragon and Thorny Horned Dragon, and that both were Fantasy Level, Gold Quality Guardian Beasts.
Logically, for either the Shield Crystal Armor Dragon or the Thorny Horned Dragon to have reached such a size, they should have been qualified to advance to the Mythical Tier.
Before they advanced to the Mythical Tier, Zhao Kai had originally planned to raise the Shield Crystal Armor Dragon and Thorny Horned Dragon to Platinum Quality while they were still at the Fantasy Tier, thereby triggering a Bloodline transformation.
The effect of doing so would be completely different from raising their Quality to Platinum during their advancement to the Mythical Tier.
The two methods of Quality advancement have a massive impact on a Guardian Beast’s future potential!
Zhong Yi could see that Zhao Kai had poured his heart and soul into these two Guardian Beasts. Not rushing their advancement to the Mythical Tier was the best proof of his dedication.
Seeing his two Guardian Beasts covered in wounds and looking so listless, Zhao Kai’s heart ached so much that his breath hitched in his chest.
Zhong Yi summoned the Resurrection Celestial Lord again, but this time, he didn’t have it use its Rule Authority right away.
After all, using Rule Authority to integrate the Core of Resurgence into their bodies would consume far too much of the Earth Dragons’ own Energy.
Neither of the Earth Dragons could withstand such a massive drain on their Energy.
Zhong Yi simply had the Resurrection Celestial Lord use its Skill, Recovery Enlightenment, to provide some basic medical support for the Shield Crystal Armor Dragon and the Thorny Horned Dragon.
At the same time, the Healing Energy would allow him to probe deep inside their bodies and get an accurate assessment of their injuries.
The toxin that had tormented a Fantasy Tier Peak Dragon Species Guardian Beast into such a wretched state was incredibly stubborn. Yet, under the cleansing effect of Recovery Enlightenment, it melted away as quickly as snow in the sun.
As the poison receded, the enormous two-meter-wide wound on the Thorny Horned Dragon’s abdomen began to look less swollen.
The Thorny Horned Dragon finally found the strength to sit up.
Zhong Yi’s gaze, however, wasn’t on the partially detoxified Thorny Horned Dragon. He was frowning, his attention fixed on the Shield Crystal Armor Dragon sprawled on the ground.
The Shield Crystal Armor Dragon’s internal organs were nothing but a pulpy mess. If not for the sturdy fascia in its abdominal cavity holding them together...
...the pulped organs would have already mixed together. Even its heart was damaged—one of its two ventricles and one of its two atria had been shattered.
The only reason it had survived this long was thanks to its astonishing regenerative ability as a Dragon Species Guardian Beast.
Furthermore, as its master’s Lifebound Guardian Beast, it was being constantly nourished by his Soul Base.
Although the Shield Crystal Armor Dragon’s injuries had brought it to the brink of death, the healing from the Resurrection Celestial Lord, a Healing Element Order Beast, still restored a sliver of its vitality.
Zhao Kai watched Zhong Yi anxiously, waiting for him to deliver the verdict on his two Guardian Beasts.
"They can be healed. It will just be a bit troublesome and will take a few days."
A few days!?
’Can injuries like these really be healed in just a few days?’
