Chapter 40: Car or Bedroom
"I’d rather we stay here," he whispered, even though I knew simply from meeting his gaze that he liked my offer. He was just waiting for a better one as he lowered his lips back to my neck, and I pushed him away again.
"Twice!" I offered, and he simply chuckled with almost cruel amusement, shaking his head to make it clear he wasn’t interested—while all I could think about was the fact that we were clearly making a scene, one I would rather not be part of.
"What then?" I asked, hating that I had to, but it couldn’t be worse than making out in public—something I was almost confident I didn’t like, though Nico didn’t seem to care.
He didn’t immediately speak, which only deepened the frown on my face, until I finally heard him:
"Pick a place—car or my bedroom?"
The choice itself was baffling. Why would I ever go to his bedroom? But if the answer was so obvious, why would he feel the need to ask in the first place? I fixed my eyes on him.
"Car?" I responded, and before I could say anything else, he pulled me toward it, opening the door with a sense of urgency in his movements.
"We should be trying to find the enemy," I told him the moment he closed the door, noticing that the bodyguards weren’t getting in, and neither was the driver.
"Bedroom," I said, changing my mind. I’d kissed in front of them enough for today, and I didn’t want the drive home to feel even more awkward than it already was. Nico looked taken aback by my response, but I didn’t care.
It wasn’t like anything would change by being in his room.
"Are you sure?" he asked, a question I didn’t like in the slightest, leaning closer as if trying to confirm whether I’d change my mind.
"I’m sure!" I responded, less confident than I sounded, as I watched him gesture toward the driver and guards, who immediately got into their cars and drove straight back to the estate.
Nico pulled me out the moment the car came to a stop and led me straight to his room, closing the door behind him before beginning to unbutton his shirt.
"What are you doing?" I asked, struggling not to follow the line of abs on his chest down to his stomach and the tattoos boldly drawn over his skin.
"Taking a bath!" he responded, gesturing to the side. "You should take one too," he added, even as I glared at him incredulously.
"Why would I do that?" I asked, prepared to simply return to my room, hating how difficult it suddenly was to breathe now that I was in his room. It wasn’t my first time there, but it was harder staring at Nico toss his shirt to the ground, unbutton his pants, and head straight for the bathroom.
"I’ll be out in a moment," he said, entering without even closing the door behind him. The smell of his soap hit me instantly, making my heart thump harder in my chest. Nico kissing me constantly was affecting me, and worse, it was something I was starting to enjoy.
I wanted to leave, but I knew how that would go. He would find me, and the same thing would follow. I had just stepped closer to the opposite bathroom when I realized something and entered, closing the door behind me.
It was a huge bathroom, with an even bigger shower. But instead of heading toward it, I simply sat by the tub. If I waited a few hours, surely Nico would give up and go to sleep. Moreover, he couldn’t barge in on me while I was bathing.
The possibility was enough to stop me from stripping down and actually taking a bath. Still, I turned on the shower. Call me petty, but I didn’t care. I hated that I was giving him free rein—and even more that I was starting to look forward to his kisses. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
’Gosh! Carmen! Nico of all people,’ I muttered under my breath. His nickname at one point was Snake, simply because of how cold-blooded he was with both women and men. He would take what he wanted, which was the same thing I was doing—and even then, I still felt like I was being used.
I stayed in the bathroom much longer, about to check my phone for the time, when I heard a loud knock that jarred me from my thoughts.
"Carmen! Unless you’re planning to sleep here, step out!" Nico’s voice had a tinge of urgency that pleased me immensely. He could wait, since I had no intention of actually opening the door for him. I smiled as I listened to him knock again.
’Gosh, this feels nice!’ I chuckled to myself, staring at the flustering ceiling, the sound of the running shower in the background.
Then the door opened, and Nico appeared. He took one glance at me and grinned, even as I scowled at him, watching him make his way toward me wearing only loose pants and nothing else.
"...What if I was naked?" I asked, generating enough anger in my tone.
He shrugged. "You wouldn’t have—you don’t trust me! The fact that you actually came in here is surprising by itself," he said, stopping right before me as I still sat on the tub before rising to my feet. ƒrēewebnovel.com
I reached for him, aware that we might as well get it over with, sliding my hand around his neck. He lowered his head and let me, almost like he was begging me to continue with his eyes. Fluttering my eyes closed, I kissed him, intent on making it purely a physical activity.
His lips were warm, and instead of taking over, he simply breathed, pressing himself closer as if he were waiting. Wordlessly, I parted his lips, and he let me, dropping his mouth open and ajar for my tongue to slide in. I tasted him—not too much. Our breaths grew heavier, and I needed to keep things under control.
