Chapter 3: The Betrayal
Then Ronnie took the horse carriage away from the road and hid it between the trees inside the forest.
The carriage stopped quietly.
Inside, Hina stayed with the baby while holding him carefully in her arms.
"I will go see what happened," Ronnie said quietly.
Hina nodded slowly.
"Be careful."
Ronnie covered part of his face with clothes before leaving.
Then he walked toward the town gate.
From far away, he could already see something was wrong.
Many people were standing in long lines outside the entrance.
Horse carriages were also waiting there to enter the town.
And near the gate—
Many soldiers were checking everyone.
Ronnie slowly joined the line and stayed quiet.
Around him, people were talking to each other in low voices.
Then Ronnie looked at an old man standing in front of him.
"Why are there so many soldiers at the town gate today?" Ronnie asked.
The old man turned back slightly.
"You did not hear?"
Ronnie stayed silent.
"I heard there were two A-ranking adventurers," the old man said quietly.
"They killed their teammates and even tried to kill the town lord’s son, Sir Rohan."
Ronnie’s eyes changed slightly.
The old man continued speaking.
"Sir Rohan was badly injured when they brought him back to town. He was lucky to survive."
"And before he lost consciousness, he said Ronnie and Hina betrayed them."
"That is why the town soldiers are searching for them now."
The old man looked toward the front again.
But when he turned back toward Ronnie— frёewebηovel.cѳm
Ronnie was already gone.
Then Ronnie returned back to the horse carriage hidden inside the forest.
Hina was still inside with the baby.
The moment Ronnie entered, Hina looked at him immediately.
"What happened?" she asked.
Ronnie stayed silent for a few seconds before telling her everything he heard at the town gate.
After hearing everything, Hina’s expression became heavy.
"It has been thirty years..." Ronnie said slowly.
"From the time we were born until now, we worked hard and saved people."
"We protected this town for years..."
"And in the end... they did this to us."
Silence filled the carriage.
Then Ronnie slowly closed his eyes.
Six days ago...
Inside Butwal Town, in the Adventurer Guild Master’s room—
The door opened.
Ronnie and Hina entered together.
"Why did you call us here so urgently?" Hina asked.
The Guild Master was sitting on a sofa behind the table placed in the middle of the room.
There was another sofa in front of him.
"First, sit down," the Guild Master said.
Both of them sat quietly.
Then the Guild Master started explaining.
"You know our S-rank party is outside the town right now."
"They went into the deeper dungeon areas, and it may take weeks for them to return."
"That is why I called you here to take this mission."
Ronnie looked at him seriously.
"What mission is this?" Ronnie asked.
The Guild Master took a deep breath.
"You know the Town Lord’s son, Rohan."
"He wants to enter the dungeon."
"But he is not an adventurer."
"That is why I want you two and some B-rank adventurers to go with him."
Ronnie’s expression changed slightly.
"You know it is dangerous to enter that dungeon," Ronnie said. "Fighting monsters is already hard enough. Protecting someone at the same time is not possible."
The Guild Master slowly stood up and walked toward the window. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
He looked outside before speaking again.
"I know that."
"But the Town Lord personally gave this order."
"I cannot reject him."
"I am in trouble right now... and only you two can help."
"Please take this quest."
Ronnie and Hina looked at each other silently.
In the end, they agreed.
Later, they entered the Black Dungeon together with Rohan and several B-rank adventurers.
Everything was fine at first.
By the time they reached the 12th floor, Ronnie and the others had cleared every monster on each floor.
But Rohan did nothing.
He did not even carry his own bag.
He only watched from behind while making fun of them.
"This is easy," Rohan said proudly while laughing.
Ronnie’s patience slowly disappeared.
Hina decided they should return to the surface.
But Rohan refused immediately.
He wanted to go to the 13th floor.
Ronnie and Hina knew that floor was far more dangerous.
Only experienced A-rank or strong B-rank adventurers could survive there.
But Rohan would not listen.
And because Ronnie and Hina refused to continue deeper, Rohan became angry.
Until those two leave, I cannot enter the
13th floor," Rohan shouted.
Then he kicked them out of the group.
The other adventurers also did not want to continue.
But Rohan promised them triple payment.
Because of that, they finally agreed to follow him.
Ronnie and Hina still did not want to leave him alone.
They promised the Guild Master they would protect him.
So they tried to follow.
But Rohan stopped them.
"I already kicked you out," he said coldly.
"If you follow us again, I will make sure your adventurer cards are banned."
Ronnie wanted to argue back.
But before he could say anything, Rohan ordered them to leave.
In the end, Ronnie and Hina returned toward the surface.
Both of them believed the group would fail and come back soon.
But then—
Suddenly, deep inside the dungeon, the floor walls broke apart.
The entire group fell down two floors.
From the 13th floor...
To the 15th floor.
After that—
Hours passed.
And only one person returned from the dungeon.
Rohan.
What truly happened inside...
Nobody knew.
At that time, Ronnie and Hina were still far from the dungeon.
Then suddenly, they saw many town soldiers and horse carriages in front of the dungeon, returning to the town.
At first, Ronnie and Hina thought only one thing.
Rohan had already returned to town.
