Chapter 4: Engagement broken

Inside the grand hall, three figures stood tall: one young woman and two young boys of the same age as Cole. Judging from their long black overcoats embroidered with a roaring lion symbol, the three of them were from the prestigious Royal Blue Oak Training Academy of the capital. Without a doubt, all three were young geniuses.

The servants of the Saint Family looked at the three with admiration in their eyes.

"Twins from the Siren family, what are they doing here...?"

The servants’ voices were filled with confusion. There was only one Siren family in the kingdom, and it was an extremely powerful family famous for producing a long line of capable generals for the military. As such, it was understandable to question why the heir of such a powerful family would suddenly appear in their family estate. Moreover, not just that, but They had come together with their young miss... Could it be that the Siren family had taken in Young Miss Fiona?

A few slightly smart servants had a sudden burst of enlightenment, somewhat understanding the situation.

Neither Fiona nor the twins from the Siren family paid any attention to their discussion. The twins’ expressions were calm and indifferent as they stared at the large head of the Moonswan Antelope hanging on the wall, its two horns flickering with a sharp sheen, ready to tear through the space.

Ashvon Siren, the elder of the two twins, turned his gaze away from the antelope figure, his eyes filled with genuine admiration.

"According to what Grandpa said, the Moonswan Antelope was the first generation abyssal creature to invade the world. Using its raw strength alone, it could level cities... To think such a creature was killed by the ancestor of the Saint Family..."

However, his words caused a frown to appear on the youngest Siren, Raven.

"Tch! It must have been a lucky escape. I don’t believe a family that produced a trash heir could have such a glorious history."

Raven’s face was filled with disdain and clear mockery. It appeared that, unlike his elder brother, he didn’t care much about Saint Family history.

Ashvon heard his younger brother’s words and frowned, focusing on Raven with a slightly hardened gaze. He scolded him in a stern tone.

"Young brother, watch your mouth. You can’t go on bad-mouthing the name of an ancient family like the Saints, which has contributed immensely in the war against the Abyss and the Joint Front."

"If any of the servants overheard your words and filed a complaint with the council, you might even be suspended from the academy and might even face harsher punishment if unlucky."

Ashvon’s tone was severe. The council was strict and ruthless when dealing with such matters.

Raven heard his brother’s angry words and shook his head, not taking them seriously at all.

"Calm down, older brother. Those old fogies of the council don’t even bother wiping their asses after taking a shit, and you think they would care about what some hot-blooded young man said about them?"

"Tch, if they were that alert and diligent in their duties... Argh! Enough with this council talk. Let’s forget about that."

By the end of his words, Raven was so pissed that talking about them made him even more angry, so he didn’t want to bother with it anymore.

Ashvon also fell silent, unable to retort.

There was only silence in the grand hall, broken only by the cold wind whining outside like a banshee.

After another breath of time, Raven’s gaze shifted toward the entrance, a slight smirk at the corner of his lips.

"Fellow student Fiona, I would have to say your fiancé really had some backbone to make us two brothers wait for so long..."

With each word that he spoke, the air in the room fell to freezing temperatures. Every servant felt a chill run down their spine. They didn’t even dare to raise their heads, afraid of looking the young master directly in the eye.

Fiona seemed completely unaffected by all of this. Her gaze was calm and even, not showing even the slightest bit of impatience.

Seeing Fiona ignoring him again, Raven’s expression turned darker than charcoal.

The gall of this girl. Did she really think that just because she was from the Burningmoon family, he would not dare do anything to her?

Don’t force me, or else I will show that your Burningmoon family is nothing but an ancient name surviving on past glory.

Raven’s thoughts had almost reached a breaking point when suddenly he heard the sound of orderly footsteps coming from outside—one light and anxious, the other heavy and filled with intention.

The footsteps echoed like thunder in the suffocating silence of the grand hall.

Fiona, who had been sitting all this time like an ice sculpture, finally turned her head toward the main entrance of the hall, her eyes showing no emotion.

On the other hand, a wide smile appeared on Raven’s face.

This guy is finally here.

He muttered in a frosty tone.

...

Outside, Cole looked at the giant wooden gate of the grand hall. Just one step forward, and he would enter, facing whatever drama his fiancé had brought to his face.

Hope it gets over fast...

Cole silently prayed in his heart with a mildly annoyed look. Although for now the Lightning Worm bloodline might have stopped acting up, this was only temporary. He knew the threat was real and could erupt at any moment.

Just as he was about to take the final step, a voice cut through from the back.

"Young master... whatever happens, I am always here to support you."

Trisha’s small face had a forced smile. Just like everyone else, she had also guessed what was the purpose of Fiona coming here, but there was nothing she could do about it. Some things her young master had to face alone.

This...!

Cole was completely stupefied looking at her smile, a smile that hid all the concern and worry that Trisha felt at this moment.

He didn’t know how to assure her, so in the end, he simply nodded and walked inside.

Just then, a loud shout filled with tyrannical strength hit his head like a sledgehammer, almost knocking him to the ground.

"Hahaha... coward of the glorious Saint family, you’re finally here! You sure have some guts to make us wait like this..."

Cole’s head was ringing. He tried his best not to trip and fall down. Still, with his shaky vision, he saw a handsome young man rapidly crossing the distance and moving toward him.

Who...?

A question quickly filled his head. He was sure as hell he had never offended this guy, so why was he attacking him?

Cole’s thoughts moved at lightning speed as he raised his hand upward to gently wipe the trail of blood from the corner of his mouth.

Seeing Cole act, the smirk on Raven’s face deepened further. However, if one looked closely, it would be easy to notice how, for a very brief moment, a look of disbelief flashed on his face.

Not just his face—the older brother Ashvon also had the same stunned look.

That shouting just now was not ordinary shouting, but something fueled by the spirit ability of the Siren family. Such an attack should have seriously crippled, if not killed, the young master of the Saint Family.

Even he himself had been shocked when he faced the terrifying magical force just now. He wanted to stop it, but there was no time.

Cole’s gaze moved from Raven, stopping on calm and composed Ashvon, and finally paused on Fiona’s figure, who from start to finish had not made a single move. Forget about making a move—she simply did not even look in Cole’s direction, as if afraid of making eye contact, seemingly guilty of something.

This strange attitude of hers surprised Cole, so when his senses returned to normal, he could not help but question inwardly:

What the hell was going on here?
