Chapter 3: Deducing
[Possibility Sixty-Seven — Death of the Saint Family head, ending the protection that the host enjoyed.]
This should not be possible. His father, Patriarch Saint, was a formidable figure on the body refining path. He was one of the strongest powerhouses in the city. If something had happened to him, the news would be all over the palace by now.
Just as he was thinking, his gaze unconsciously drifted toward Trisha, who was standing in the distance. While he was thinking, she waited patiently, even though from her fidgeting fingers it was clear she was growing impatient.
Cole gave her another look and took a deep breath.
Let’s go.
"As you wish, young master." Trisha’s face instantly lit up. Without wasting another breath of time, she started moving, instinctively raising the hem of her dress to move faster.
Following behind her, Cole watched her actions with a conflicted look, his gaze turning away from her to examine his surroundings.
This medieval architecture... a large hallway flanked with large windows on both sides filled the hallways, allowing the moonlight to filter through the open space lying up ahead, almost as if it were daylight. The polished white stone gave off a cool and inviting sensation with each step that he took.
So magical...
Cole sighed in amazement. Although it might look like he had completely healed, in reality he was mentally exhausted. The potion might have healed all the injuries, but the mental and spirit exhaustion was real.
Now, walking on this pathway, all the exhaustion seemed to disappear like smoke on a windy day.
Just as he was lost in enjoying the sensation, a gust of cold wind blew, brushing against his nether region and softly caressing his body. Feeling the chill creeping up his spine, Cole’s figure stiffened.
Hurrying and shaking his head, Cole looked at his own naked figure, then at Trisha standing in the front.
Yeah, this is probably not the best attire to meet my fiancée... right.
Thinking up to this point, he softly called out, "Trisha, wait for a minute."
Although they were in a hurry, upon hearing Cole’s words she didn’t hesitate and simply said, "As you wish, young master."
Cole hurriedly ran back and came back dressed in a new pair of white robes.
When Trisha saw him perfectly dressed, she felt slightly stunned and had the urge to slap herself in disbelief.
How stupid must she be to not even realize the young master had been naked? If he were to meet Young Lady Fiona in such a state, she would not be able to forgive herself.
Cole didn’t care about what she was thinking, but simply focused on walking forward. Trying to act much like the former Cole, he didn’t want to show any signs of possession.
...
The Saint Family was one of the biggest families in Blessed Moon City, which itself was one of the top four cities of the kingdom, just below the capital and the other two important centers of power.
The family occupied the southern corner of the city, a large mountain that had been leveled to house the family estate. All the white stone that paved the walkway was extracted from this former mountain.
Cole moved step by step, slowly making his way toward the central courtyard. His own laboratory was slightly farther away from the main family building, so even with the target in mind, it was going to take some time.
Still, after walking for five minutes, Cole’s surroundings changed. It was no longer as deserted as before. It was easy to spot multiple soldiers from the Saint Family elite unit patrolling the perimeter. Upon noticing Cole, most showed little to no recognition. This was evidently due to the fact that Cole was the only son of the Patriarch of the Saint Family and the next heir to the family head position.
However, even then, the soldiers showed no sign of respect for the next heir, but only...
Disdain and mockery.
He could almost feel the soldiers gossiping behind his back. It was so blatant and clear that, if he focused even a little bit, he could hear them.
What a day it is... the good-for-nothing trash is finally out of his cave.
Tch, son of the strongest body path expert in the city, my foot. To hide in one corner all day...
There was a cold glint in the guards’ eyes, and as they ruthlessly mocked Cole, they laughed among themselves in hushed voices.
Cole heard everything clearly but didn’t react. This was their way of feeling superior to him, when in reality they were nothing compared to him.
However, just as he was thinking, Trisha suddenly stopped. She turned back and shouted in a loud voice like a lioness.
"You two, how dare you talk about young master like this behind his back!"
Trisha was fuming red. Large veins popped on her fair white forehead, and her two eyes were narrowed to slits, staring at the two guards.
This...!
Cole’s mouth was wide open, staring at the sudden outburst. He was caught completely off guard.
What is this pressure...?
Cole questioned in his head while staring at Trisha’s figure. A strange force seemed to weigh heavily on his skin, pricking his senses. It was the same feeling as one would experience while staring too closely at a blazing hot flame.
Maybe it was not only Cole who was experiencing the pressure. The guards felt it too—maybe even worse. Suddenly, both of their faces drained of color, and beads of cold sweat rolled down their foreheads.
Damn, how did I not notice that little devil ahead?
They had gotten too engrossed in mocking Cole that they completely forgot about Trisha’s existence. She was waiting to blow all those who mocked Cole into bloody pulp.
However, now that the situation had gone this far, they could only man up and look at her arrogantly with their chins slightly raised. One guard, with a black scar on his left cheek and a slightly crooked smile, walked forward and said while laughing out loud:
"Why do we not dare? We will mock this useless piece of trash just like this. What are you going to do about it?"
After saying those words, the guard threw his head back and laughed loudly.
Hahaha, a useless servant of a useless master. Now go cry to your mommy.
Maybe the guard was too engrossed in mocking that he didn’t notice that his partner in crime had fallen eerily silent, slowly backing away while looking at him with a strange gaze. Not just him, but the surrounding soldiers had also fallen completely silent.
Just then, the guard suddenly felt a chill run down his spine.
Someone is behind me...
The guard slowly uttered the thought and turned his head back, only to see a small fist zooming into his vision before everything darkened.
Tch, such a weakling dare to trash-talk my young master.
Trisha fumed as she angrily spat on the ground. After giving the guard one last kick, she turned to Cole, only to find him staring at her with a slightly perplexed look on his face.
Realizing her actions might have caused the two of them to be delayed, she hurriedly started apologizing.
Cole looked at Trisha’s figure, perfectly apologizing, and didn’t know what to say. Other than shock, there was almost a different emotion in his heart that he simply could not explain.
He looked at her for one long moment, then quietly sighed.
Without saying anything, he turned back and started walking.
After a silent walk of another five minutes, the two arrived in grand luxurious hall, Servants and soldiers of the family looked at Cole and discussed in hushed voices.
By now the news of Fiona Burning Moon arrival had spread rapidly like wildfire, people were speculating wildly, some even stating the obvious, engagement annulment.
It was just a matter of when.
