Chapter 20: Rumours

Unaware of all the chaos his actions had caused, Cole returned to Ethan Summers’ stall feeling slightly good about himself. Not only had he saved a life, but he had also managed to earn fortune while doing so. Surely there would be no bigger saint than him in the entire Saint Family, right?

Feeling pleased with himself, Cole walked while whistling a tune, stopping only when he saw Ethan lazily examining a couple of wooden boxes.

Witnessing this, Cole’s heartbeat could not help but accelerate.

Could it be my goods have arrived...?

However, this thought had barely appeared in his head when he crushed it in its infancy. It was still too early to say such a thing.

Most of the ingredients he needed were found in the Lightning Domain. It was clear to all, without a shred of doubt, that getting things out of the Lightning Domain was no easy deal. Hell, forget about days — it would be surprising if it took only weeks for the ingredients to arrive.

It was also at this time that Ethan noticed someone snooping at his doorstep. Thinking it might be some annoying beggar, he was about to lash out furiously when he noticed it was Cole and burst out laughing.

"Customer, you surely have a long and prosperous life ahead of you. I was just thinking about you a moment ago, and now you have arrived."

Thinking about me...?

Hearing those words, the gears in Cole’s head turned, and the thought that he had just crushed once again appeared in his mind, this time stronger than ever.

Taking a deep breath, Cole forgot about everything else and looked at Ethan with anxiety rising in his heart.

"Shopkeeper, could it be the ingredients that I requested are already here...?!"

Those words had barely left Cole’s mouth when Ethan’s face fell. Looking at this, Cole’s stomach turned green.

Could it be I was really overthinking...?

Just as his thoughts were about to spiral out of control, Ethan let out a long sigh and spoke like a kid whose grand plan got exposed.

"How did you guess it? You ruined the fun. I wanted to give you a surprise."

Letting out another sigh, he turned to the row of wooden boxes and said,

"In all these boxes are the ingredients you mentioned."

"I have to say, customer, you are really lucky. We had one batch of ingredients you mentioned sitting in our storage..."

Ethan spoke jovially while pointing at the wooden boxes, looking slightly proud.

On the other hand, Cole’s happiness quickly died down, leaving him looking slightly disappointed.

So it turned out these ingredients had been sitting in his storage, and he had not collected them from the Lightning Domain.

Just a moment ago, he had thought the budget problem that was giving him a headache had finally been solved. If Ethan could procure all the ingredients this fast, then refining the Blood-Calming Potion would not be a problem. But now that he finally knew the truth, Cole could not stop himself from feeling disappointed.

Still, he did not show the expression on his face. On the surface, he expertly maintained a poker face.

After that, the two did not waste any time. Cole examined the goods with the help of A.I. and confirmed all of them were genuine, then moved on to the next business: selling the monster core that he had managed to earn.

Even though he was already prepared, the purchase still ended up burning a hole in his pocket, costing a total of ten thousand mana stones. Instead of earning some money, Cole ended up losing all the money that he had saved.

Suddenly, he turned slightly depressed. Completely opposite to him, Ethan was busy excitedly counting his money without a single care in the world.

Some time later, Cole left carrying the multiple wooden boxes on a metallic cart.

I can’t return to the Saint Family with these materials. That place is no longer safe for experiments. To refine the Blood-Calming Potion, I’ll need a quiet environment...

Hmm... I will return to the backup laboratory...

The original Cole had been obsessed with research and experiments. In case his primary laboratory was no longer functional, he had built himself a secondary lab outside the Saint Family compound.

Right now, Cole’s first priority was refining the Blood-Calming Potion. Everything else could come later. At any moment, the Living Worm bloodline could overpower his own. If that happened, nothing would be able to save him.

From the distance, Ethan stopped counting the money and looked at Cole’s back disappearing into the crowd. At this time, he was not alone. Another figure stood right beside him — a girl with long flowing golden-soft hair, dressed in a simple white gown that loosely clung to her curvaceous body. Above her small pointed nose rested a large pair of eyeglasses. The girl’s two slender eyebrows were slightly furrowed as she examined Cole’s figure vanishing into the crowd of people.

"So it’s him..."

A soft voice filled with unmatched grace and majesty echoed right beside Ethan’s ears.

Hearing her elder sister’s words, Ethan’s back instantly tightened.

"Yes, big sister. It is this person who praised your formation..."

Hearing the word praised, for a moment the girl’s snow-white skin seemed to turn red as a tomato before quickly returning to normal.

Ethan noticed this and could not stop himself from letting out an inward sigh. Ninety-nine percent of the time, his elder sister would act like a cold and calculating princess, but the moment someone praised her formation, her cold façade would immediately crumble.

Thinking of all these things, a small pout appeared on Ethan’s face without warning.

Cole might not realize it, but the only reason he had gotten the ingredients so fast was because of his previous remark praising the formation carved on the sword. If not for that, it might have taken days for the ingredients to arrive.

...

By the time Cole returned to the secondary laboratory, the news of the Blue Pegasus family head killing his own son had spread far and wide.

However, the way people reacted to the information was extremely strange. Instead of blaming the Blue Pegasus patriarch for showing unnecessary cruelty, the population blamed Cole — the guy who had saved the Blue Pegasus young master’s life.

"To think someone as talented as the Blue Pegasus young master would die so soon..."

An old man commented while sipping on his evening tea.

After taking another sip, he continued,

"Young master was not only talented, but he was kind as well..."

After saying those words, the old man’s figure disappeared, appearing in another corner of the city, saying some foul words with slight anger in his tone.

"It is definitely the doing of that good-for-nothing Saint trash. Out of jealousy, he must have wanted to harm the Blue Pegasus young master..."

"Yeah, you are right. His evil scheme completely caused the situation."

The other person who heard the old man’s claim eagerly nodded. The mysterious old man, looking at his reaction, smirked and disappeared once more.
