Chapter 19: Horror
"It can’t be that nerdy bastard..."
The Blue Pegasus young master’s eyes lit up for a second as the face of the figure that eerily resembled the man who had just saved him appeared in his head, completely overlapping. He knew it was the same man. There was no mistaking it.
As soon as he confirmed it, the young master’s face turned darker than charcoal.
"A filthy saint actually saved my life... This is not good. If news of this were to spread..."
The young master felt a chill run down his spine, as if it had not been a fellow human who saved him, but a devil himself. Suddenly, the young master started regretting asking for help.
If only that bastard Karlos hadn’t betrayed me...
Just as the Blue Pegasus young master was thinking, the sound of a tree branch cracking softly echoed through the surroundings. He immediately jerked his head in the direction of the sound, only to find nothing.
It appeared there had been a third individual also present, watching the fight all this time.
Not good...!
Realizing this, the Blue Pegasus young master almost felt his heart jump out of his throat.
It would have been fine if no one had been watching, but now someone had seen a filthy saint save his life. The news was bound to spread.
If that happens...
The young master felt the chill in his heart intensify. He did not even want to think about it any further.
Without wasting a single second, the Blue Pegasus young master ran, heading straight back to Blue Pegasus family compound.
The Blue Pegasus young master only stopped to catch his breath when he noticed the city’s tall protective wall in the distance. He was feeling relieved when he suddenly noticed something amiss.
Blue Pegasus family elite guards?
A row of neatly dressed individuals stood silently outside, waiting for someone. The passersby — awakened and hunters alike — looked at them with cautious eyes and did not dare get close, discussing in hushed voices.
"Oh my heavens, aren’t these the Blue Pegasus family elite guards? Don’t they usually move with the Blue Pegasus patriarch himself?"
"If these elite guards are here, does that mean—"
The man did not continue, but everyone who heard those words understood what he was trying to imply.
The Blue Pegasus young master also heard those words, and a possibility flashed through his head.
The Blue Pegasus family patriarch is here...
Realizing this, the fear and dread he felt in his heart intensified.
Father is here...
The Blue Pegasus young master weakly muttered. He did not seem to have much strength left. His entire body was shaking like a twig during a storm.
At this moment, the Blue Pegasus young master’s heart was filled with horror. A bad feeling rose in his heart. He had never felt like this, even when facing monsters in the forest.
Just as he was thinking, the row of elite guards parted, revealing two figures dressed in simple robes, one young and one slightly middle-aged. Surrounded by opulently dressed elite guards, these two individuals looked like nothing more than beggars. But with just one look, no one would dare look down on them. Each of these simply dressed figures radiated an aura that made it difficult for others to underestimate them, especially the middle-aged man. His eyes seemed to pierce through the heart of anyone who dared to look directly into them.
The young master’s mouth opened, and a slightly surprised yelp escaped him.
"Karlos... you are here? Then why didn’t you come—"
Just as the young master was about to continue, he heard his brother Karlos open his mouth.
"Father, this shameless brother of mine actually dared to show himself right in front of you after being saved by a saint."
These words hit the Blue Pegasus young master like lightning from nowhere. The words he had been about to speak did not come out of his mouth. He simply stood frozen, goosebumps rising all over his skin because he felt the change.
Just when those words were mentioned by Karlos, he felt the look in his father’s eyes change.
Karlos also noticed this and wanted to continue, but stopped as he saw the middle-aged man beside him raise his hand.
Under Karlos’s gaze, the Blue Pegasus family patriarch moved forward step by step and stopped right in front of the Blue Pegasus young master. There was not a hint of concern in the eyes of the Blue Pegasus family patriarch for his son. The patriarch’s eyes looked completely indifferent, but those familiar with him could feel a storm brewing within them.
"Father..."
The Blue Pegasus young master slowly raised his head.
The look in those eyes told him something terrible was about to happen.
For a moment, pin-drop silence fell over the surroundings. No one dared to breathe too loudly. For some reason, every single living being watched the Blue Pegasus patriarch with bated breath, their hearts unconsciously accelerating. At some point, the clear sky darkened with storm clouds, thunder roaring overhead. A lightning bolt tore through the sky, lighting it up.
Then the Blue Pegasus patriarch’s lips moved, and a cold voice, chilling as winter wind, echoed through the surroundings.
"Why are you alive...?"
A simple question, yet it chilled the hearts of all those who heard it, especially the Blue Pegasus young master.
As if already aware of what his father was thinking, the Blue Pegasus young master opened his mouth and tried to speak.
"Father, I didn’t know it was a saint who was helping me. If I had known..."
"If I had known, I would have preferred dying than accepting his help..."
The Blue Pegasus patriarch did not seem to hear his son’s pleading words and simply uttered a single sentence.
"Why didn’t you know he was a saint?"
After saying this, he calmly pointed at the faces of all the onlookers.
Suddenly being pointed at by the Blue Pegasus patriarch, the expressions of everyone present fell.
"Look at these people. Look at how they are watching this spectacle, but inside they are gloating, laughing at me, at how my lifelong enemy’s family saved my son, at how the son of the man I hated most saved my son’s life..."
With each word the Blue Pegasus patriarch spoke, his voice rose slightly, to the point blood started to flow out of the ears of all the onlookers. Some of them could no longer endure it and began begging for mercy.
"Patriarch, mercy...! We don’t dare think like this! We would never laugh...!"
The Blue Pegasus young master’s mouth opened and closed several times, but no words came out. His head hung low to the ground. For a moment, a look of hatred flashed through his eyes — not against his father, but against Cole.
How dare that saint scum save me... maybe that was his plan all along. He wanted to kill me by saving me.
Killed by my own family...
The more the young master thought, the more the hatred in his eyes intensified. Just as he was continuing to think, he suddenly saw a flash of silver at the corner of his vision, and then darkness.
Tap. Tap.
Drop by drop, blood flowed to the ground from the severed head in the hands of the Blue Pegasus patriarch. If one were looking closely, for an extremely brief moment, a complicated look appeared in his eyes, but it was quickly suppressed.
With a soft thud, the Blue Pegasus young master’s body fell to the ground.
With a soft flick, the patriarch tossed the severed head to the side and uttered a few words before leaving.
"Hang his body above the gate. At least in death, he will serve the family by being an example."
As soon as those words echoed, the elite soldiers of the Blue Pegasus family started to move, picking up both the head and the severed body and quickly tying them above the gate, clearly visible for all the onlookers to see.
