Theo’s expression slowly turned grim.
The redirected slash had accomplished almost nothing.
The winged creature simply floated there, its robes fluttering gently despite the raging winds around it.

His gaze shifted past it.
Lucienne was still on one knee.
Her breathing was shallow, and beads of sweat had begun forming on her forehead beneath the veil.
’I can’t tell if every attack costs her something or if it’s simply from summoning it.’
Theo narrowed his eyes.
’Either way, I have to pressure her rather than that creature.’

Two large lightning bolts flickered to life beside him.
Within an instant, they soared high into the sky, only coming to a stop as they hung above Lucienne and that creature.
Just as the lightning bolts began swirling around each other, the creature glanced up at the sky.
The gray flames on its scythe spiked as it pulled the weapon back slightly.
Then, another massive arc shot off, soaring high into the sky.

It collided with the bolts before they’d even formed a lightning storm.
Theo’s expression shifted slightly.
As he glanced at Lucienne again, he noticed nothing much had changed in her complexion.
’Damn it!’ he thought. ’The creature seems to be able to use attacks however it likes.’
He immediately changed tactics.
Crackle!
Dozens of tiny lightning bolts sprang into existence around him.
Unlike the earlier ones, these contained barely any mana.
With a flick of his fingers, they shot off in completely different directions.
Pop! Pop! Pop!
Some raced straight towards Lucienne, others curved around the winged creature.
Several climbed high into the sky before diving down from above.
Theo’s own body vanished from his spot at the same time.
He crossed several dozen yards at lightning-fast speeds, while the winged creature hesitated for the first time.
Its skull turned left and right, seeing the wide range of rapid attacks coming in from each direction.
For a moment, the flame underneath its hood flickered more violently.
Then, it raised its scythe high above its head.
CRACK! CRACK!

Massive gray flames erupted all around Lucienne, evaporating the lightning bolts instantly.
Only after all the lightning bolts disappeared did the skeletal creature finally lower its scythe.
But as the gray flames faded, Theo’s figure reappeared less than twenty yards away from Lucienne, water already swirling around the tip of his umbrella.
’Now!’
The water bubble shot off his umbrella, surrounded by a nearly invisible gray mana.
Lucienne’s pupils constricted.
’He’s there?’
She’d been watching the lightning bolts closely, barely having gotten to her feet.
As her face paled, the water sphere crossed the remaining distance in an instant, spinning faster and faster as it began to grow larger.
Before it could reach her, the winged creature appeared in its path.
It swung its scythe down without hesitation.

Instead of exploding, the water simply evaporated.
Then, before Theo could react, the winged creature vanished from sight.
His eyes widened slightly as his instincts screamed for him to move.
’Fuck!’ he thought, flicking his umbrella open immediately.
The creature reappeared right in front of him, already swinging its scythe down.

Its scythe tore straight through the swirling water, carving into his umbrella as if it barely existed.
Theo let go instantly, lightning crackling at his feet as he vanished from where he’d been standing.
’Retreat!’ he thought, flickering away.
Each time he reappeared, another burst of lightning crackled underneath his feet.
Yet, as he glanced back after dozens of yards, his eyes went wide.
A massive flaming arc shot straight towards him.
’Shit, shit, shit!’
He pulled the trident off his back and flickered to the side.
WHOOSH!!!
As he reappeared, the arc just barely passed by him.
BOOOM!
It exploded against the barrier, sending spiderweb-like cracks through it.
Theo’s hair stood on end just looking at it.
’What is this...?’
Even so, he barely had any time to think.
’That guy is a combination of light and undead mana,’ he thought. ’If I want to get past him, just simple attacks won’t do it.’
As his mind raced, an idea suddenly popped into his mind.
The awakening scenes of both his water and lightning elements flashed in front of his eyes.
For a moment, he hesitated, then he shook his head.
’Even if it costs me all my mana,’ he thought. ’This is probably the best shot I have.’
Theo sucked in a deep breath.
Then he planted the butt of the trident into the shattered arena floor.

Water washed out all around him, rising into massive waves.
Yet, it slowly rose from the ground, flying high into the sky.
There, it began condensing into countless little droplets as dark clouds began to gather above.
Lucienne frowned.
’Rain?’
She touched one of the raindrops, feeling a strange pressure that made her skin crawl.
Even the winged creature remained perfectly still, the white flames beneath its hood flickering as droplets landed harmlessly against its robes.
Theo, however, smiled.
Crackle!
Two large lightning bolts appeared beside him.
In an instant, they shot forward, heading high into the already formed clouds.
The winged creature responded instantly.
It swung its flaming scythe toward the clouds, releasing a massive flaming arc.
But then, the countless raindrops began to merge together.
A massive floating water wave cast a shadow on the land below, making Lucienne’s eyes go wide.
THUD!
The flaming arc collided with it.
Waves of steam rushed into the air as water and flames slowly evened each other out.
RUMBLE! RUMBLE!
Golden lightning began to flicker wildly in the clouds above.
The winged creature instantly responded, sensing the danger very clearly.
It soared higher into the sky, releasing two more flaming arcs in a cross shape.
Yet, the water wave remained in place.
Even as it kept evaporating, it shielded the massive amounts of lightning gathering above.
Just as the winged creature was about to release another flaming arc, the water wave suddenly parted.
Each bit of water split into countless tiny droplets again, raining down on the battlefield below.
But as the water wave disappeared, the creature, Lucienne, the instructors, and everyone in the crowd froze.
CRACKLE!
The lightning, which had gathered into large orbs above, released itself into several immensely powerful beams.
