Chapter 356: Agendas

"Has he gone mad or something?" Victor chuckled as he skimmed through the proposal letter sent by King Xavier.

"Hey," he called out to Blake, who was going out with his children, before waving the letter in front of him. "That nutjob sent an official proposal to our mate."

Blake frowned. "Who?’’

"Xavier"

The frown now deepened. "Throw it away." Then he paused before saying, "No, burn that down." This was the last thing he wanted to hear right after learning about his past life from his mate. Xavier was lucky he wasn’t directly going to the fox tribe and killing him after everything he did to him and his mate. That man caused his mate to take her own life. If Victor learned about that, then he surely wouldn’t be laughing and snickering like this.

"Poor guy." The damned vulture seemed to be enjoying this situation. "He thinks my sweet girl will accept him if he does this. He thinks this stupid proposal will change something."

"You were also just as stupid when you were pursuing Lily," Blake said, earning a glare from Victor.

"Are you really comparing me to that desperate piece of shit?’’

You too were once the same desperate piece of shit. Blake wanted to say that, but instead, he kept his mouth shut. He didn’t want to hear Victor blabbering about how he was different and how he was special to their mate the entire day.

"Just get rid of it." Blake sighed, "And don’t let Lily find out about this." He knew very well what was going on inside Xavier’s mind when sending the letter. He was desperate to somehow stay in her mind. Even if it meant constantly tormenting her by sending things that would remind her of him. If she reads the proposal, she will likely be upset for the rest of the day. She was stressed as it was already; Blake didn’t want to add on to it with this unnecessary token from Xavier.

"I was about to," Victor said as he tore the parchment before throwing it into the fireplace.

"What are you two doing here?’’ Lyra entered the hallway hand in hand with Kaizer.

"Nothing," Blake answered before Victor could. "I was about to go out on a walk with them." His babies reacted on cue by slithering to her.

Lyra smiled as she bent down to rub their smooth heads. "Is that so? Go on then. Enjoy the time with your father."

"They will," Blake reckoned, his babies having successfully distracted his mate. Then he looked at Victor. "You come too." He didn’t want the latter tattling about what happened by mistake.

"Sure," Victor scoffed, realizing what Blake was trying to do. His friend had so little faith in him. He kissed his mate before walking out of the castle with Blake.

Once again, Lyra was left alone with Kaizer. "Do you want to come into my room?’’

Kaizer couldn’t help but smile. There was no way he was going to say no to that request.

"Did they receive the letter?’’ Xavier asked as he glanced through the repair work done inside the castle. The roof was leaking in places and wouldn’t be ideal for the coming rainy season. He also sanctioned constructing shelters high above the ground in case of floods occcuring.

"King Victor was the one to receive it, Your Majesty." freewebnσvel.cøm

That made Xavier smile. "That hothead? So it surely wouldn’t have reached my pretty female in the end," he guessed. Victor, being the most jealous of all her mates, wouldn’t want any more added competition. He would have discarded the letter without showing it to Lyra.

Well, his goal was only to incite her mates, to stay in their heads. They should always live in paranoia and anticipation of Xavier going to snatch their mate away. It didn’t matter that the letter didn’t reach her. All he wanted was them alert until he decided to rip their hearts out and claim Lyra for himself.

"Send another one." He instructed his aide, "Keep sending the letters until it reaches her. And instruct our spies to send a detailed report of her daily routine. When she wakes up, when she sleeps, when she is alone...away from her mates. I want to know everything. Tell them their reward will be doubled if they bring in accurate information."

"Yes, Your Majesty." His aide Kyle replied dutifully. After his lover’s death due to the conspiracy that happened back during Xavier’s coronation ceremony, he had turned into a shell of a being. The culprit responsible for allowing stray beasts inside the Fox tribe was yet to be found.

"I’ll find the ones responsible for Josh’s death, Kyle," Xavier mentioned briefly. "They will wish they never been born once I’m done with them."

It was a promise Kyle held dear to his heart. If anyone could, it would be his king who would get it done. His vengeful nature was what he needed at this moment. Kyle knew Xavier cared little about everyone except Lady Lyra, but he also cared when someone crossed him. A conspiracy right under his nose? King Xavier would never tolerate that. And Kyle would use that to his advantage. He will be a dutiful servant to King Xavier, help him in everything, assist in killing Lyra’s mates if that is what he wants, and drag her here to him if that means Xavier finding the culprits behind Josh’s death.

There was nothing else for him to live for. Those who wronged his innocent lover must die a death so painful that it would put Josh’s soul at peace.

However, before all this, there was a problem they had to address: "Yesterday I received a notice from the Elders council, Your Majesty."

"What of it?’’

Kyle bowed. "It is regarding female Alice’s death at your hands. They want to hold a trial to decide your punishment."

Xavier smirked, "A punishment?’’ They could try.

"As this is not your first time killing a female," Kyle hesitated, "It could turn ugly, Your Majesty. They might forbid you from taking in an official queen."

That made Xavier’s eyes sharp. "More reason for me to take her unofficially." But he will take her. No matter what anyone says.

"They could push for your exile, Your Majesty."

That could turn out to be a problem. He would no longer be able to be near her. But this could always turn into an opportunity. Shifting the Fox tribe out of the city would mean getting away from this place’s ridiculous rules and regulations. If it came to that, he could very well settle his tribe in a place away from prying eyes. It would be ideal to keep Lyra captive there.
