Chapter 355: Helping the devil
"What are you doing here?’’ Lyra asked as she sat beside Kaizer. Her bare feet touched and disappeared under the stream. The newly bloomed cherry blossoms were falling into the water, creating a picturesque view. It was like a fairy tale. So beautiful and enchanting. Alas, she couldn’t fully enjoy it because of the thoughts running through her mind.
Kaizer glanced at the female whom he loved. She was here sitting right beside him, but he could discern that her mind was elsewhere. Other than their first meeting, he hadn’t seen her genuinely smile or seem content. She always looked worried and burdened. It hurt him physically to see her so distraught. His fingers reached her face, tucking the stray hair behind her ear before cupping her face. freewebnovёl.ƈom
Lyra smiled and leaned her face against his warm palm, rubbing against it. "What is worrying you, Bunny?" His words made her freeze. What could she say? That the ruler of his tribe had someone occupying her body? That the women of his tribe were in constant danger because of the stray beastmen staying there? Or about Xavier, who seemed to haunt every second of her life?
There were many things worrying her. Too much was going on in her life. It was useless to keep worrying because it wouldn’t solve anything. And she didn’t want him to think that she was here only because she wanted something from him. As for Elena’s matter, Lyra trusted her mates to deal with it. Opening up about their past with Blake also made her considerably relaxed.
"I just wanted to spend some time with you." Lyra said, leaning in to hug him, "Can I?"
Now it was Kaizer who smiled. "You know I can never say no to that request." Lyra hugged him tighter, hearing that, and snuggled her face against his chest.
Kaizer felt like he was dreaming. She was being so cute and clingy that it made his heart melt. The feelings inside him for her seemed to overflow, making him hug her back tighter. He kissed the top of her head, pulling her towards him. This was all he needed. To be near her, even if it means never having a chance at becoming mates with her. As a rootless beastman, he would never be able to mark her like his father couldn’t mark his mother. It was such a hollow feeling, not being able to tie himself to her through the sacred bond. Still, he was grateful for having met her. He wanted to spend the remainder of his time with his precious person.
"You will never leave me, right?" He asked, his voice shaking a little. Kaizer couldn’t live without her.
"I will not leave you unless you want me to," Lyra replied. She didn’t know where his uncertainty towards her was coming from, but nonetheless, she said, "I decided to love you because I wanted to, and I will continue to do so in the future unless you change your mind and want to leave me. That will be your choice, Kai."
"You know I can never leave you." Kaizer was slightly offended by her words. What made her think that he would ever leave her?, "Don’t even think about leaving me. Know that you are stuck with me now. I’m never letting you go."
Lyra chuckled at that. "Then don’t let me go." She moved away to look at his face. "Hold me tight because I love you."
Kaizer rested his forehead against hers. "Will you love me even if I can never mark you?" Saying it out loud didn’t seem difficult anymore. The way she looked at him with eyes full of adoration made him more confident. frёeωebɳovel.com
Lyra pecked his lips. "Will you stop loving me just because you can’t mark me?’’
His question returned back to him seemed to make him flustered. "That will never happen."
"It is the same for me, Kai." She attested, "My feelings for you will not change just because of not having a spousal mark." It was not even a thing back on the earth, so Lyra didn’t feel strongly towards the mating mark. But that didn’t mean she disregarded it. Marking was seen as important and sacred by her mates; she would not run around saying things like it didn’t matter because it did matter to her. What mattered to her mates mattered to her.
However, not having a spousal mark was not the end of the world for her. The important thing for her was being together with her mates. That was what truly mattered to her.
Kaizer remained silent as his eyes did all the talking. He looked at her face like he was memorizing all the details on her face. Her words meant so much to him. He had never thought he would find someone who would accept all of him without any prejudice.

Elena waited with bated breath for Heath to return. She kept going near the door whenever there was a sound in the connected hallway. But her mate never came. He was late to arrive. Too late.
"So you woke up?’’ The familiar voice of her tormentor made Elena shake in terror.
Kalena sauntered into the room as if she owned it. She glared down at Elena like she was nothing more than dirt beneath her shoe. "You shouldn’t have woken up, Elena."
She said that like she was admonishing a child who had done something wrong. Elena’s mind grew numb. This woman was talking as though occupying somebody else’s body was nothing. Like Elena waking up in her own body was inconveniencing her somehow. The absolute nerve of this woman made Elena clench her fists.
"I will not let you in me anymore," Elena said, having had enough of this bitch of an angel. She didn’t deserve this.
Kalena smiled at her words, "And who says I need your permission for that?’’
Elena retorted, "You occupied my body that day because I allowed it." She still remembered trusting Kalena’s voice that day, giving some kind of permission that allowed the angel to control her. "I made a mistake then because I was overwhelmed with emotions, and it cost me my father’s life. I’ll not do it again." Never again, "You promised me that you would give me Lucas but betrayed me.’’ No matter how much she tried to suppress her feelings, it refused to stop once it came to her Lucas. Even now, in front of her death itself, she was thinking about Lucas.
Kalena caught on to it very quickly. This wretched fool was still thinking about a man who didn’t give a damn about her. It was so depressing, but for Kalena? It was an opportunity. What Elena had guessed was true. She wouldn’t be able to get inside the former’s body without an invitation. Permission was required even if it was achieved through dubious means like last time. This was also why she put the girl in an unconscious state when she left her. It was to avoid this unnecessary confrontation.
"You can still get Lucas if you want." Kalena decided to lay down her bait.
And as she expected, Elena’s eyes shook in uncertainty when she heard that, "Wh-what?’’
Kalena used her powers to relax Elena’s guard as she continued, "I can give you what you desire. Lucas will be yours once I reach my goals."
Elena’s breathing got louder as she heard the angel’s final words, "So what do you say, Elena? Will you help me win?’’
