Chapter 80: Chapter 80 Vanishing Act
Elara’s POV
Relief washed over me. "Understood. I’ll owe you big time when I return!"
Finnian started to respond, but I’d already ended the call.
——
Finnian stared at his phone, frowning as he pulled up the location tracker. His expression grew grimmer the longer he studied the screen.
The surveillance feed from Elara’s vessel revealed at least six or seven smaller ships in pursuit. One or two he could handle letting her deal with alone. But this many? What if an S-class beastman was among them?
His face darkened. Without hesitation, he dialed her number again.
"Yeah?" Elara’s tone remained casual, as if danger wasn’t breathing down her neck.
"Turn around and come home. I’ll take care of this," Finnian said, his voice gentler than before. He wanted to tell her he wished she’d lean on him once in a while...
"I get what you’re saying, and I appreciate it, but there’s no time!"
Static crackled through the line before Elara’s voice disappeared entirely, replaced by howling wind.
"Elara? Elara!" Finnian kept his voice controlled but urgent, repeating her name into the device. The line went dead.
He couldn’t lose control. He couldn’t shout, or the other six patients would spiral into chaos.
Forcing himself to remain composed, Finnian opened his message thread with Rory and typed rapidly: "You don’t have long. Get your team to this asteroid. If you’re late, or if she gets hurt, don’t bother coming back!"
He attached the location coordinates and Elara’s photograph.
In Chamber Six, Finnian paced restlessly. Please let nothing go wrong...
Settling into his chair, he suddenly remembered something crucial. He quickly activated a communications panel. The connection established almost immediately, and Finnian brought up the tracking map, spotting a tiny red dot racing at incredible velocity!
Maybe his fears were unfounded. The energy signature Elara was broadcasting was remarkably powerful. That alone suggested she had decent odds of escaping unharmed.
Even so, he couldn’t lower his guard.
On Frostpeak World, Rory spotted the message. He didn’t even pause to grab his boots before rallying his crew and launching into space!
Based on the coordinates, the journey would take a short while...
"Maximum velocity!" Rory commanded frantically. "We need to get there fast." freeωebnovēl.c૦m
First pastry deliveries, now rescuing a female—a stunning one, no less... and Mr. Foxglove, typically so composed, was anything but steady. Any one of those factors demanded his absolute best effort.

Elara’s POV
After disconnecting, I did exactly what I’d done before—I jumped!
No way in hell was I letting my freshly fixed ship get destroyed again!
Vivienne was seriously injured and unconscious. I had no alternative. Using my wood abilities, I encased Vivienne in a protective shell of vines... sort of like a chrysalis.
Employing my spatial powers to teleport, I successfully suspended Vivienne from a massive, gnarled ancient tree.
Above, Cassian’ forces had closed the distance. I took a quick survey. No galactic authorities in sight. That simplified matters considerably. After all, I just wanted to pummel these bastards.
Apparently, Cassian felt similarly. That’s why he’d dismissed the galactic patrol and was pursuing me personally!
I glanced back. All compact vessels that couldn’t carry large crews.
Excellent. It’s been ages since I played hunter and prey. Dealing with those mindless undead was revolting and tedious. Tonight promises to be entertaining.
With that thought, I retrieved the heavy sniper rifle from my storage dimension.
Vivienne had thrust it into my hands before losing consciousness. I’d visited this asteroid previously. I’d intentionally programmed the coordinates for the identical location where I’d battled the insectoids before, since I knew the terrain intimately.
Amidst all the mayhem, I remembered to send Finnian a voice note.
"Don’t stress too much. It’s not like I’m some delicate flower," I said, adding a cocky emoji.
Finnian responded: "Stay alert. Your pursuer is Cassian. He has an S-class avian beastman bodyguard. His ability is stealth. Soon. My people will arrive very soon..."
I asked: "What species of bird?"
Finnian replied: "Eagle..."
While Finnian was so tense his hands were slick with perspiration, I acted like I was casually browsing a marketplace. So Finnian remained trapped in his world of crushing anxiety.
I sent back: "Shame. No bird soup for you tonight."
After transmitting that message, I used my spatial abilities to teleport to a hiding spot...
Cassian’ crew chased relentlessly, but they still lost track of me when I was merely thirty feet away!
"Shit, that female is quick!"
"Stay sharp. She’s definitely got some kind of ability."
"Teleportation?"
"Most likely. That female is dangerous. Remember how Prince Cassian got embarrassed at Glimmeraven Port? That was all her doing. So search thoroughly! When you locate her... rape her first, then execute her!"
