Chapter 192: Chapter 190: She’s Still the Mother of My Two Children
In the restaurant’s main hall, Bai Su picked up her daughter and gave her a kiss. Turning to the crowd of onlookers, she said with a wide smile, "We have a happy occasion in the family today. Everything’s on the house!"
After a moment of silence, the entire hall erupted in deafening cheers!
"Long live the boss!!"
"Congratulations!"
"The boss is so generous!"
"In that case, I’m ordering two more dishes! I’m not full yet!"
Bai Su carried the little one to the kitchen, so happy her bunny ears flushed pink. "Where did you come from? Have you had a hard time these past few years? I see you’ve gotten tanner, and thinner too. Haven’t you been eating enough?"
"Are you hungry? I’ll make you something delicious. What do you want to eat?"
"Or should we go home first?"
Wen Dabao shook her head. "Are you free right now?"
Bai Su blinked. "I am."
Wen Dabao said, "Come on, log on."
Bai Su: "...Huh?"
Wen Dabao: "Our ranks are different, so we can’t play ranked together. I’ll get on my sister’s smurf account."
Bai Su sensed something was off. "Sister? What sister?"
Wen Dabao fell strangely silent for a moment. The excited light in her eyes gradually faded as her senses returned.
Belatedly, she looked through the restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling windows toward the general store across the street, keenly sensing the towering rage and murderous aura directed at her.
’I’m screwed...’
Wen Dabao turned her head and looked stubbornly at Bai Su. "If I said I just popped out from a crack in a rock to find you, would you believe me?"
Bai Su shook her head.
Yan Qingya, standing nearby, kindly reminded her, "I saw you come from the general store across the street."
Wen Dabao: "..."
Yan Qingya added, "The whole dining hall saw you."
The crowd of onlookers nodded in cute, perfect unison.
Wen Dabao: "..."
The gears in her mind were turning at high speed as she tried to figure out how to smooth things over...
"Sister? What are you doing here?"
At the restaurant entrance, Wen Xiaobao, with a small backpack on, tilted her head and looked at her in confusion. Her big, fluttering eyes were bright and exceptionally cute.
Behind her, her three brothers stood guard like little knights.
Wen Dabao: "..."
’I’m totally screwed!’
*
On the third floor of the restaurant.
In the private room were only the five little ones, Bai Su, and Wen Lan.
The small dining table was laden with freshly made dishes: a steaming-hot dual-sided hot pot and crawfish in three different flavors.
The food on the table looked lively, but the atmosphere was so cold it could have frozen over.
Wen Dabao was furiously stuffing her face while clutching her swollen little bottom, but she didn’t forget to share a bite with her sister. Her three brothers quietly observed the situation from the side.
Bai Su glanced at Wen Lan’s grim expression across from her. A sense of helplessness washed over her.
"So, you’ve been living across the street with the children this whole time, with no intention of acknowledging us?"
Wen Lan emphasized distantly, "My children."
Bai Su recalled the few times she had seen Wen Lan with the children. He always had the fiercely protective look of a father defending his young. She guessed he was probably afraid she would try to take the children from him.
She could understand the mentality of a single father.
Bai Su bit her lip. "I think maybe we can find a compromise. Let the children come back, and you can come back too, and join our big family. Isn’t Lu Tingyan your cousin?"
Wen Lan’s expression soured even more. "They are my children alone."
Bai Su bit her lip. Considering the original owner of her body had sold the children, she really had no right to demand them back.
Wen Dabao, juggling a crawfish in one hand and a big soup bone in the other, lifted her greasy little face from her feast. "Dad, I think I have an idea. I’ll just add Bai Su as a friend on my terminal to play games with, and I’ll still live with you. We won’t leave you, so you don’t have to worry!"
Wen Lan: "No!"
Wen Dabao was being too naive.
’Play games together today, have dinner together tomorrow... their lives would gradually intertwine. Bai Su would slowly become a part of their lives. When that time came, would they be able to leave her?’
’There was absolutely no way he could be with Bai Su, so the two children would inevitably have to make a choice.’
’He didn’t have the confidence or the courage to watch his children leave him for Bai Su.’
’Even if there was a one-in-a-million chance of it happening, he had to nip it in the bud.’
Bai Su looked at him. "I don’t want to fight with you, but I truly love them. What’s so bad about having one more person to care for them?"
"You’re so busy every day. With no one to look after the children, can you really rest easy leaving them at home?"
Wen Lan gritted his teeth. "Such noble-sounding words!"
He clearly didn’t believe a single word she said.
The two sides were at a stalemate. In between them, the five children were already on their second round of food.
Watching her two children eat until their little bellies were round and full, Bai Su’s heart swelled with infinite tenderness. She looked at Wen Lan. "You can’t just deny the children’s own desire to see their mother, can you?"
"I promise I won’t try to take the children from you, but my heart aches for them too. How about this? You let them come to my restaurant to eat every day. And of course, you can come too if you need to."
"It breaks my heart to see how thin the children are."
Wen Lan shot her a vicious glare, as if he wasn’t the one whose heart ached for the children.
He said coldly, "That’s not necessary. We won’t be settling down in the Imperial City forever. Your food is addictive, and I don’t want them to suffer from its absence when we eventually move."
Bai Su bit her lip. ’Who could say what the future held?’
A sudden idea struck her as she recalled seeing Wen Lan secretly watching her videos to learn how to cook. "How about this, then? I can teach you how to cook every day."
"Aren’t you just worried I’ll bribe them with food? If you learn how to cook it too, then you won’t have to worry about that, will you?"
Wen Dabao nodded furiously from the side. "Yes, yes, yes!"
Wen Lan stared at her suspiciously, narrowing his eyes. "You’d be that kind?"
Bai Su felt a little helpless. "They’re my children too. Would I really do anything to harm them?"
Wen Lan was somewhat swayed, but his words remained stubborn. "Who knows if you’ll really teach me sincerely?"
Bai Su said with an amused laugh, "You’ll know if the food tastes the same with just a bite. If I’m not teaching you sincerely, you’re so smart, could I really fool you?"
Wen Lan snorted coldly. "That’s true."
Just as he was about to agree, the door to the private room was thrown open, and Li Chenlin walked in.
"Susu, I heard you had guests? I’ve come to take you home."
When Wen Lan saw Li Chenlin, his face darkened instantly. "What are you doing here?"
Li Chenlin was even more furious. "What the fuck are *you* doing here?"
With lightning-fast reflexes, Wen Dabao grabbed a braised pork bone in one hand and Wen Xiaobao in the other, diving under the table.
The next second, a powerful clash of spiritual power erupted from Li Chenlin and Wen Lan, sending all the food on the table flying.
Luckily, the three little ones were quick enough to shield Bai Su with their own spiritual power, sparing her from being scalded by the soup.
Li Chenlin’s face turned black. "Fuck! You fucking want to steal my Susu too? In your dreams!"
Wen Lan: "Fuck off! Who the hell do you think you are? Do I need to steal anything from you?"
Without another word between them, they rolled up their sleeves and started fighting.
Bai Su’s face was grim. It looked like the agreement they had just worked so hard to reach was about to fall apart.
Li Chenlin cursed, "Are you a fucking bedbug? Get lost! Susu is mine, don’t even think about touching her!"
Wen Lan hadn’t even been thinking along those lines, but Li Chenlin’s provocation instantly enraged him. "Hilarious. Who the hell do you think you are? She’s the mother of my two children, for crying out loud! Have I said anything?"
