Chapter 65: Chapter 65: Felix Preston Kissed Her
Felix Preston’s appearance instantly calmed the furious Renee Sinclair down. She stopped roaring and cursing, and she was no longer posturing or making threats. With her cooperation, the rest of the process went much faster.
As they left the mediation room, Renee Sinclair took out her phone and made a call. After she hung up, her case with Ms. Armstrong was reclassified as mutual combat.
"Mutual combat? On what grounds is it mutual combat?!" Ms. Armstrong refused to accept it, grabbing a female officer’s uniform and immediately causing a scene.
"That woman hit me first! I only fought back to defend myself, so why is it being called mutual combat?"
"Bullshit! You’re all full of shit! She brought four or five guys with her as backup, and they all got involved. Am I supposed to have had a mutual fight with five people by myself? Do you even hear yourselves?"
"So what if you have security footage? Didn’t the camera show that woman striking first? Didn’t it show her calling people over to restrain me?"
"Pah! A bunch of blind idiots..."
The police station echoed with Ms. Armstrong’s shouting. Sonia Quincy had been listening to it for days and was already numb to it. Right now, all she wanted was to lean on Mrs. Preston and get some rest.
Mrs. Preston knew she was tired. Seeing her with her eyes closed, seemingly dozing off, she gently raised a hand to cover Sonia’s ear, trying to shield her from Ms. Armstrong’s racket.
She leaned a little closer against Mrs. Preston’s shoulder, the corners of her lips turning up slightly.
When Felix Preston came out of the mediation room, he turned and glanced at the utterly exhausted Sonia Quincy sitting on the bench, and his heart ached.
"I understand. Thank you, Officer Abbott."
After hearing the officer’s explanation, Felix Preston couldn’t wait to turn and walk toward Sonia Quincy.
"Felix!"
Renee Sinclair chased after him and grabbed his hand, her eyes urgent and a little hurt. "Felix, I didn’t mean to cause trouble for you. I just wanted to teach that woman a lesson and vent your anger for you!"
"Miss Sinclair." Felix Preston was truly exhausted from being repeatedly dragged into her messes. He switched to the formal address, his tone cold, and mercilessly pulled Renee Sinclair’s hand away.
"I don’t care what your motive was for doing this. I just hope you won’t disturb my wife. My wife is almost five months pregnant. She needs to rest peacefully, so stop causing trouble for her."
"I didn’t mean to cause trouble for her!" Renee Sinclair jutted out her chin, her expression stubborn and her tone resentful. "Felix, I really just wanted to help you, to get back at them for you. I didn’t want to blow things up like this either."
"..." Felix Preston closed his eyes, a headache coming on. He didn’t want to engage with her any further.
She took two steps forward, rolled up her sleeve to reveal the red, swollen scratches on her fair skin, and showed them to Felix Preston pitifully. "Felix, I got hurt too."
"Hmph..." Felix Preston sneered, not even giving her a sideways glance.
"Miss Sinclair, isn’t this exactly what you wanted?"
"I..." Renee Sinclair was left speechless by his retort.
Felix Preston ignored her and walked straight over to Sonia Quincy.
"Sonia?" He bent his lean waist slightly, his voice holding a tenderness that Renee Sinclair could only dream of receiving.
"Sonia, we can go home now. You can sleep when we get home, okay?"
Sonia Quincy opened her eyes at his words and nodded listlessly. "Okay."
"Come on." Felix Preston reached out to help her up, pulling her into his arms. "I’ll take you home."
"Felix, is everything taken care of?" Mrs. Preston stood up right after them, her brow furrowed with concern.
Felix Preston looked down, one hand around Sonia Quincy’s shoulder, the other brushing a stray strand of hair from her forehead. His fingers then gently caressed her cheek.
"This doesn’t have much to do with our family. I’ve cooperated as required. The rest is out of our hands. Don’t worry, Mom."
"That’s good, then." Mrs. Preston’s anxious heart finally settled. She picked up Sonia Quincy’s bag and followed Felix Preston out.
"Felix," Renee Sinclair called out, chasing after them unwilling to give up. She kept trying to explain to his retreating back.
"D-don’t be in such a hurry to leave! Will you just listen to my explanation?"
"I really didn’t mean to cause trouble for you. If you don’t like me acting this way, I’ll change right away!"
"Felix, wait for me! I have something to tell you. I promise, you definitely won’t blame me anymore after you hear it!"
Felix Preston didn’t respond with a single word.
Renee Sinclair had no choice but to play her trump card.
"Felix, my dad sent me a WeChat message this morning. He told me to remind you to prepare your presentation materials. The first round of the investment pitch starts on Monday!"
"..." Felix Preston still didn’t respond.
He escorted Sonia Quincy to the car, personally opened the passenger-side door, and carefully helped her get in.
"Sonia, wait for me for a minute. I’m going to go make things clear with her."
Sonia Quincy blinked wearily. "Go ahead."
"I won’t be long." Felix Preston leaned down, moving a little closer. He then cupped Sonia Quincy’s face and gently placed a kiss on her forehead.
"..."
"!!!"
Sonia Quincy was stunned for a few seconds, then her eyes flew wide open.
’Felix Preston... kissed me?’ she murmured in disbelief, slowly raising her right hand to gently touch the spot on her forehead.
A trace of warmth from his lips still lingered. Sonia Quincy bit her lip, her cheeks suddenly feeling hot.
"Miss Sinclair." Felix Preston adjusted his glasses, and with a few long strides, walked to the other side of the car.
Renee Sinclair stared at Sonia Quincy with jealous hatred. Only when Felix Preston called her name a second time did she clench her jaw, tear her gaze away, and walk over to him in her high heels.
Felix Preston kneaded the bridge of his nose, his attitude toward Renee Sinclair colder than ever before.
"Miss Sinclair, you have seriously overstepped."
Renee Sinclair’s hands hung in front of her, her fingers anxiously twisting together. "Felix, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean for things to get this out of hand."
Felix Preston didn’t acknowledge her apology, instead saying, "Business is business, and personal life is personal life. My relationship with you, Miss Sinclair, has always been strictly professional. Yet you have repeatedly invaded my personal life and disturbed my wife. Don’t you think you’ve gone too far?"
"I-I did it all for your own good."
Felix Preston’s words failed to make Renee Sinclair reflect on her actions. Instead, she took a step forward, sounding rather aggrieved. "Because of Sonia Quincy, you were tricked into bankruptcy! Because of Sonia Quincy, you’re looked down on and ridiculed everywhere you go! Because of Sonia Quincy, your life and your family have no peace!"
"I only wanted to force my way into your life to help you because I feel for you! Felix, why can’t you see my intentions?"
"Help me?" Felix Preston’s eyes narrowed, a menacing glint in them. "Miss Sinclair, my life is happy and fulfilling. Where exactly do I need your help?"
"My bankruptcy, being looked down on, the constant trouble in my life—none of that has anything to do with Sonia! I suggest you get your facts straight and stop slinging mud at my Sonia!"
