Chapter 249: Chapter 252: Trying to Contact the Outside World
Charlotte Shaw didn’t believe Willow Quincy’s promise.
Since he had decided to imprison her for life, there was no way he could restrain himself from touching her forever. His current promise was nothing but a pretense. As soon as they successfully left the country, it was only a matter of time before Willow Quincy would make his move.
She couldn’t just sit around and wait for the worst; she had to find a way to escape as soon as possible.
At 12:30 in the afternoon, Aunt Bell knocked on the door right on time to bring her lunch. Lying listlessly on the bed, she called out coldly toward the door, "It’s not locked. You can come right in."
"Alright," Aunt Bell replied, then turned the knob and brought the food in.
Charlotte hadn’t eaten breakfast and was already starving. The moment the dishes were set down, she got out of bed on her own and sat at the dining table.
Aunt Bell took out a pair of chopsticks and handed them to her. "I just finished braising this pork knuckle. It’s still very hot, so make sure you blow on it, Sonia. Don’t burn yourself."
"Mhm," Charlotte replied perfunctorily, then picked up her rice bowl and began to eat.
Aunt Bell tactfully moved to one side, staying out of her way.
She shoveled rice into her mouth with a blank expression, then after a moment, she suddenly asked, "Is Willow Quincy downstairs?"
"No, he’s not," Aunt Bell answered with a smile.
Charlotte paused, the food halfway to her mouth, a cunning glint flashing in her eyes.
But Aunt Bell immediately added, "Mr. Quincy is upstairs. His room is right next to yours. He’s most likely in there having a video conference right now."
Charlotte: "..."
"Could you not leave a dramatic pause next time?"
"Huh?" Aunt Bell didn’t understand what she meant. "I’m not out of breath. I’m in great shape. I don’t even get winded climbing stairs."
"..." Charlotte didn’t know how to explain, so she simply fell silent.
After lunch, Aunt Bell cleared the dishes and went downstairs. Charlotte was left alone in her room with nothing to do.
With Felix Preston gone, she could never sleep soundly. She slept poorly at night and even worse during the day, so even though she felt a little drowsy now, she didn’t want to go to bed.
She paced anxiously around the room a few times, but when no ideas came to her, she opened the door and went out into the living room.
There was a massive TV in the living room. Charlotte rummaged through the TV stand for a long time but couldn’t, for the life of her, find the remote control.
"What is this crap..." She kicked the cabinet in front of her in frustration and turned to go back to her room. But as she passed Willow Quincy’s door, she vaguely heard several suppressed voices coming from the crack.
’Aunt Bell said Willow Quincy was in a video conference. So these voices must be him and his employees, right?’
’Do his employees know their boss kidnapped his own sister?’
Charlotte’s eyes darkened. She suddenly decided to take a gamble.
BANG BANG BANG!
Without hesitation, she raised her hand and pounded forcefully on the door.
BANG BANG BANG!
"Willow Quincy, open the door!"
She was like a raging beast, not only banging on the door with all her might but also screaming at the top of her lungs, "Hurry up and open the door! I need to talk to you!"
"Are you deaf? Can’t you hear me?!"
"Willow Quincy, it’s Charlotte Shaw! You can’t even recognize my voice anymore?"
"I can."
Willow Quincy finally opened the door.
"Sigh..." He let out a helpless sigh. His gaze held not a trace of anger, only gentle indulgence and affection.
"What is it, Sonia? Is there something you were so eager to see me about?"
Charlotte shot him an impatient glare, then strode right into Willow Quincy’s room.
"You don’t mind if I come in and look around, do you?" she asked with false politeness, already inside.
Willow Quincy closed the door behind her, a rare, bright smile on his face. "Of course I don’t mind. Sonia can look around as much as she wants. You can touch anything in the room, too."
"Hmph..." Charlotte rolled her eyes in disdain. "Like I’d want to touch any of your stuff..."
As she spoke, she feigned a casual stroll over to Willow Quincy’s desk, her gaze sweeping discreetly over his computer.
’He really was in a video conference. The screen was still on the page showing the meeting had ended.’
’I wonder how good the soundproofing is in this room. Did Willow Quincy’s employees hear me shouting just now?’
"Sonia." Willow Quincy leaned against the wall by the door, his gentle gaze fixed on her. "Didn’t you say you needed me for something?"
"I do." Charlotte came out from behind the desk and sauntered over to the door. "Where did you hide the TV remote? I’ve looked all over for it and can’t find it."
"The TV remote..." Willow Quincy raised a defiant eyebrow. "Sonia wants to watch TV?"
Charlotte: "What else? Why would I be looking for the remote if I didn’t want to watch TV?"
Willow Quincy smiled faintly. "But there are no TV remotes in this villa. I had them all removed before you moved in."
"...Why?" Charlotte asked, though she already knew the answer.
But Willow Quincy didn’t beat around the bush. "Because Sonia is very cunning. If you watched TV, you might figure out a way to escape."
"Just like what you tried to do now." As he spoke, he pulled a pair of wired headphones from his coat pocket. "The noise-canceling on these is excellent. It would be very difficult for Sonia’s voice to have been picked up."
"..."
Charlotte was suddenly at a loss for words.
Willow Quincy looked at her, his expression one of resignation. "Be a good girl, Sonia. Stop making things difficult for yourself."
Charlotte didn’t want to deal with him, so she yanked the door open and walked out.
He watched her back and said softly, "If you’re bored, Sonia, you can come read in my room. Once we leave this place, you won’t have to live such a boring life anymore."
"None of your damn business!" Charlotte shot back angrily.
He watched her enter her room and slam the door shut. Only then did he casually put away the headphone cable and turn back to his desk.
There were actually two windows open on the computer screen; the first was simply hidden behind the video conference software.
Willow Quincy closed the video software, and the first window appeared before him.
He watched the screen, which showed Charlotte pacing back and forth in her room, and couldn’t help but lift the corners of his lips into a chilling, amused smirk...
Her first attempt to contact the outside world having ended in failure, a defiant Charlotte Shaw began her second.
Early the next morning, while Willow Quincy was out of his room, she snuck in and stole a handful of pens and paper.
Hiding the pen and paper in her clothes, she returned to her room, went straight into the bathroom, and began to write.
"If you see this note, please call the police for me. My name is Charlotte Shaw, my screen name is Bloom Preston, and I’m being held captive by Willow Quincy in a mountain villa."
She wrote the same message on every single sheet. She hastily scribbled more than ten copies, and when she was finished, she began to ponder how she could get them out.
