Chapter 131: Chapter 133: Felix Preston Doesn’t Care About Her at All

"I earned it myself," Sonia Quincy answered confidently.

"You earned it yourself?" The shock of two million was too much. For a moment, Evan Yates couldn’t even begin to imagine how Sonia Quincy could have "earned" it.

"Is your studio that successful? A simple online customer service rep can make two million in just a few months?"

"..." Sonia Quincy pursed her lips, speechless. "I didn’t make this two million as a customer service rep. It’s a dividend from a small investment I made a long time ago, back when I still had money."

"Investing?" This surprised Jasper Linden. "Sonia, since when do you know anything about investing?"

In his mind, Sonia Quincy’s only talents had ever been spending money and chasing after Ethan Lockwood. How could she suddenly have a knack for investing?

"..." The confidence Sonia Quincy had struggled to build was easily shattered by their remarks.

She opened her mouth, subconsciously wanting to defend herself, but as the words came to her lips, she inexplicably lost her nerve.

’Because Evan Yates and Jasper Linden’s suspicions weren’t wrong. In their eyes, ’Sonia Quincy’ was the original villainess—the one who only knew how to waste money and cause trouble, who had no idea how to cherish anything or earn a living!’

’Now, this original villainess had suddenly pulled two million from her pocket and proudly declared she’d earned it herself. Anyone would have reacted the same way.’

"Since when is it your business?" Sonia’s confident tone evaporated. She picked at her fingers, her eyes darting around guiltily. "Anyway, the money is clean. I earned it through my own efforts. You can use it. You don’t have to worry about a thing."

Evan Yates: "No, Sonia, that’s not what we meant..."

"Alright." Felix Preston, who had been silent until now, finally spoke. He clutched Sonia’s bank card firmly in his hand, his gaze unwavering as he looked at her. "Sonia, I accept your investment. But first, my studio needs to sign a formal investment agreement with you. The dividends in the contract will all be based on standard market rates. You must not take a penny less than you’re owed."

"No problem." Sonia had anticipated Felix would do this, so she wasn’t the least bit surprised by his words.

Felix Preston: "Evan, draft the contract by tomorrow."

"...Huh?" Evan Yates, still completely bewildered, was suddenly ordered to draft a contract. He gaped in astonishment, his expression completely blank.

Felix turned his head and looked at him, his gaze so stern it was chilling. "Did you hear what I said?"

"..." Evan stared at him, dumbfounded. After several seconds, he hastily nodded. "H-Heard you. I’ll go back and get the contract ready right away."

Felix Preston: "Good."

He then turned back to face Sonia, but said nothing more.

He didn’t press her about what kind of investment had earned her the two million, nor did he ask when she’d earned it. In this matter, Felix’s attitude toward her was that of someone dealing with an ordinary investor: as long as the funds were in place, no other questions were necessary.

This polite yet distant attitude saved Sonia the trouble of wracking her brain for an explanation, which was a relief. At the same time, however, it also made her a little uncomfortable.

This was such a strange and significant development that even Evan and Jasper couldn’t help but press her for details, yet Felix acted as though he didn’t want to get involved.

’Did he have that much faith in the original villainess’s ability to make money, or did he simply not care enough to ask where it came from?’

Perhaps pregnant women are just prone to overthinking, because Sonia’s mind instantly conjured up a dozen different scenarios for this one small issue. Every one of them left her feeling unsettled.

She subtly lowered her gaze, hiding the disappointment in her eyes.

"I’m going to the restroom." After sitting for just a little while longer, she used the excuse to escape to the bathroom.

"Preston." Evan took the opportunity to hurry over from the sofa, leaning close to Felix and asking in a voice only the two of them could hear, "Sonia actually managed to pull out two million. Aren’t you the least bit curious?"

Felix glanced to the side, his expression complex as he stared at the closed bathroom door in the corner.

"I’m curious," he said coolly.

Evan: "If you’re so curious, then why did you accept Sonia’s investment without asking a single question?"

The corner of Felix’s mouth twitched into a brief, humorless smile. "What was I supposed to ask? What could I have possibly asked in that moment? She lied, which proves she either doesn’t want to tell me the truth right now, or she can’t. Pressing her would only cause her more stress and trouble, and I don’t want that."

"I just want her to be happy and at ease. So, let’s give her some time. She’ll tell me when she’s ready."

Evan’s brow remained tightly furrowed. "But this money..."

Felix lowered his gaze to the bank card resting quietly in his palm. The card was thin and light, but it held the hope for him to get back on his feet again.

"This money is definitely clean. She must have earned it with her own blood, sweat, and tears. So use it, and don’t worry."

That was enough to convince Evan.

"Alright. I’ll have the contract drafted and delivered to Sonia before noon tomorrow."

Felix Preston: "Mm. Thank you."

While the two of them were whispering, Jasper Linden sat quietly on the sofa, occasionally trying to eavesdrop on their conversation by the hospital bed. From the few calm words he managed to overhear, he began to understand why Sonia was willing to change for Felix.

’Whether he was rich or poor, dazzling or down on his luck, Felix always made sure to give his partner sufficient respect.’

’He never forced her, nor did he emotionally blackmail her under the guise of ’it’s for your own good’ or ’I’m worried about you.’’

’It was no surprise at all that Sonia would be moved by such a considerate and thoughtful man...’

It was getting late. After Sonia came out of the restroom, Evan and Jasper left the hospital together.

Sonia had spent nearly five minutes in the bathroom, and by the time she came out, she had mostly composed herself. But Felix still quickly noticed that something was off about her.

He was about to ask, but just then, Mrs. Preston pushed open the door to the hospital room.

"Sonia, Felix, I made a new dish today. I want you both to eat plenty."

Sonia’s smile was as sweet and gentle as always. "Okay."

Felix stared at her for a moment before replying as well, "Alright."

The minor incident was interrupted just like that, never to be mentioned again.

At ten o’clock that night, Sonia had washed up and was lying on the sofa, secretly trying to meet a writing deadline, when she suddenly got a call from Evan Yates.

Ever since Felix had woken up, Evan had almost always called him directly if he needed something, rarely calling her instead.

She paused in surprise before quickly answering the call.

"Hello?"

"Sonia, good news! I found the spy hiding in the Preston Group. It’s Yvette Fuller’s husband."
