Chapter 119: Chapter 120: Obtained the Item for Revenge
Sonia Quincy said simply, "Oh."
She tore open the manila folder and took out all the photos inside.
The camera used must not have been very good; after being developed, every photo came out a bit blurry. Fortunately, it didn’t prevent Sonia Quincy from making out what was in them.
There were five photos in total, but they all depicted the same thing—
A Jade Necklace.
Cecilia Quincy’s Jade Necklace.
In the original novel’s plot, this necklace was a one-of-a-kind piece that Mr. and Mrs. Quincy had spent twenty million to buy at an auction, specifically to welcome Cecilia Quincy home. It was the only one of its kind in Aethelburg.
The necklace was incredibly precious and exceptionally beautiful. Cecilia Quincy adored it. After receiving it, she couldn’t even bear to wear it, choosing instead to place it in a prominent spot in her room so she could admire it every day.
Feeling sorry for her cautiousness, Mr. and Mrs. Quincy spent a great deal of money to have someone abroad buy her a more affordable substitute Jade Necklace, so she could cherish the original while not having to go around with a bare neck.
But when buying the necklace, the couple only had Cecilia on their minds, completely forgetting about the story’s original female supporting character also living in the house. This led to the supporting character having to watch, time and again, as Cecilia received gifts while she got nothing.
No necklace, no attention, and no affection from anyone.
The supporting character was already intensely jealous by nature. Now, being treated so differently by the Quincy Family, the resentment in her heart grew wildly like vines, twisting her until she was on the verge of breaking.
And it was precisely by taking advantage of her twisted state that Cecilia Quincy successfully framed her for something she didn’t do.
Sonia Quincy vaguely remembered it happened the day after Cecilia Quincy’s twenty-second birthday.
At that time, the original supporting character was hiding in her room, crying while composing a long, fawning message to Ethan Lockwood, who was giving her the cold shoulder. Suddenly, a devastated wail came from outside her room.
"Dad! Mom! The Jade Necklace you gave me was broken! Both of them were broken by someone!"
Cecilia Quincy was crying her heart out. Driven by curiosity, the supporting character put down her phone and stepped out of her room to take a look.
But that one look cost her. She didn’t return to her room for several days.
"Dad, Mom, my necklaces are all broken! Someone broke them on purpose!" Cecilia Quincy stood in the hallway in her pajamas, cradling the Jade Necklaces, which were now in several pieces, and crying pitifully.
Fiona Dalton stroked her head sympathetically and asked who had entered her room during the birthday party yesterday.
She sobbed for a long while, pretending to think, before finally casting a timid gaze toward the bewildered supporting character.
Fiona Dalton followed her gaze. Upon seeing the supporting character’s flustered and helpless expression, she instantly understood what was supposedly going on.
She backed Cecilia up, pressuring her to name the person who had entered her room.
Cecilia Quincy put on a reluctant act and, as if pained to do so, uttered the supporting character’s name.
The supporting character was completely baffled. Before she could even figure out when she had supposedly entered Cecilia’s room, she was condemned by Cecilia’s few words.
Fiona Dalton was furious. She immediately had Willow Quincy lock the supporting character in a confinement room, and she was kept there for four days. In those four days, she only had two small buns that Cecilia had "charitably" given her. By the time the supporting character was let out, she was so hungry she couldn’t even walk steadily.
In the end, it was Willow Quincy who took "pity" on her and carried her back to her room.
"That’s what you get for misbehaving. We’ll see if you dare try it again," Willow Quincy said, placing her on the bed and not forgetting to mock her before leaving.
She cried and denied it, "It wasn’t me! I didn’t break Cecilia Quincy’s necklace! I never even went into her room!"
But Willow Quincy didn’t believe her. No one in the Quincy Family believed her. They were all certain that the supporting character had done it.
The supporting character couldn’t defend herself. In this world, perhaps only Sonia Quincy, who had read the novel, knew how truly wronged she was.
Admittedly, the supporting character’s morals weren’t the best. She was envious, petty, vengeful, and had a venomous tongue. But in this matter, she was genuinely and completely innocent.
Because Cecilia Quincy had deliberately broken the necklace herself.
Cecilia Quincy had two Jade Necklaces in total: the one-of-a-kind original and the affordable substitute. But she was only willing to break the substitute; she couldn’t bear to sacrifice the original.
So, before making her move, she found someone online to custom-make an identical imitation jade necklace. After breaking it, she mixed the pieces with the broken substitute to frame the supporting character.
The Quincy Family doted on her, so after the incident, no one bothered to check if the pile of broken necklaces was genuine or fake. And just like that, Cecilia Quincy got away with it.
As for the real Jade Necklace, Cecilia had hidden it away in her jewelry box ever since. Thanks to the original author mentioning it in passing while writing the story, Sonia Quincy was able to pinpoint the necklace’s location from memory.
"The photos were taken by a housekeeper from the Quincy Family," Renee Sinclair said. "Her phone is a bit old, so the pictures came out blurry. See if you can use them."
Sonia Quincy nodded. "They’ll work. Thanks."
"What’s there to thank me for?" Renee Sinclair propped her elbow on the closed car window, resting her head in her upturned palm. "We’re both getting what we want. It’s a fair trade, no need for thanks."
Sonia Quincy didn’t respond to that. She carefully put the photos away and asked, "Did you bribe a housekeeper from the Quincy Family to get these pictures?"
Renee Sinclair replied, "Of course. How else did you think I got them? Climbed over the wall and took them myself?"
"..." Sonia Quincy was in no mood for jokes. She pressed on, "The housekeepers at the Quincy Family are paid well. How did you manage to bribe her?"
"Heh..." Hearing this, Renee Sinclair suddenly laughed. "The Quincy Family’s housekeepers are indeed paid well, but the Quincys themselves are cold-hearted and have no sense of human decency."
"Hm?" That sounded strange, and Sonia Quincy didn’t quite understand. "What does this have to do with the Quincy Family’s sense of decency?"
Renee Sinclair gave a speechless purse of her lips and explained in a mocking tone, "The housekeeper I bribed is named Collins. She’s been with the Quincy Family for over a decade. Just two months ago, her son was diagnosed with leukemia and urgently needed 800,000 for a bone marrow transplant."
"But her husband had just passed away from an illness, so this Aunt Collins had spent nearly all her savings and couldn’t come up with the 800,000 for her son’s medical fees. For the past two months, she’s been scraping money together, borrowing from everyone she could, and when that wasn’t enough, she started an online fundraiser. But even now, she’s still short by more than 300,000."
"A bone marrow transplant can’t be delayed. Aunt Collins was at her wit’s end and decided to ask the Quincy Family to lend her the 300,000. She even wrote up an IOU beforehand, promising to pay it back next year. But the Quincy Family? They wouldn’t lend her a single cent. They even refused to give her time off to go to the hospital and take care of her son."
"I had someone look into her situation and just lent her 400,000 directly. Do you think she was in any position to refuse?"
"So that’s how it was." A cold smile touched Sonia Quincy’s lips. She put the manila folder away securely, then extended her left hand toward Renee Sinclair. "Didn’t you say you found two things? Where’s the other one?"
