Chapter 110: Chapter 111: Avenging Felix Preston in My Own Way

When Sonia Quincy heard it was Jasper Linden, a weight lifted from her chest. She let out a sigh of relief and said with a smile, "Come in."

Only then did Jasper Linden open the door and walk in, laden with bags of all sizes.

"Didn’t you say Mr. Preston woke up? Why is he still like this?"

For the past two days, Jasper Linden had been dealing with the police. As soon as he heard from Sonia Quincy that Felix Preston had woken up, he rushed out to buy some things and came straight to the hospital, not even stopping for dinner.

Sonia Quincy rose from the sofa and stepped forward to help with the bags, but he immediately sidestepped her.

"No, no, you just stay seated. I can manage."

"Alright." Unable to help, Sonia Quincy could only stand aside to stay out of his way.

"Felix did wake up, but the doctor said his injuries are too severe this time. He doesn’t have the strength to stay conscious for long, so he fell asleep again after a little while. He’ll be fine once he wakes up again."

"Ah..." Jasper Linden finally relaxed. He took two steps back, closing the door behind him. "Where’s Mrs. Preston? I don’t see..."

"Don’t close it! Don’t close the door! I’m here, too!"

Evan Yates came jogging down the hallway and squeezed into the room just before Jasper Linden could close the door. "I’m here, I’m here! Sister-in-law, I made it!"

Sonia Quincy’s eyes widened in shock as she saw the ridiculous amount of gifts in his hands. "Why did you bring so much?"

At her words, Jasper Linden glanced down and was also taken aback by the sheer volume of gifts. "My God, you make me look cheap. How embarrassing. And here I am, visiting my ex’s current husband, no less."

"Oof..." Evan Yates dumped everything onto the small table by the door, but it wasn’t big enough to hold it all, forcing him to move half of the pile to the floor.

"My parents prepared all this. When they heard Preston had woken up, they nearly packed up the entire house and shoved it at me. This is what was left after I managed to whittle it down."

Sonia Quincy was a little embarrassed. "Please thank your mother and father for me."

Evan Yates put one hand on his hip and waved the other dismissively, panting as he spoke. "You can thank them in person in a couple of days. They’ll come see Preston themselves once they’ve wrapped things up at work."

Sonia Quincy nodded. "Alright."

"Hey, where’s Mrs. Preston?" Evan Yates scanned the room but couldn’t find her. "Where’d she go?"

Sonia Quincy walked back to the sofa and sat down. "She went home to make soup. The doctor said Felix injured his bones and tendons and that bone broth or fish soup would help his recovery, so she went home to prepare some."

"Oh..." Evan Yates found himself a chair and sat down, then warmly gestured for Jasper Linden to sit as well.

"Sister-in-law, all those cars that surrounded me that day were sent by Willow Quincy. There’s no longer any doubt about that. The tricky part is, there’s no surveillance on that stretch of road, and my dashcam couldn’t record what was happening behind me. So, as for the police, they’ll probably just let the matter drop."

"I figured as much." A cool smile touched Sonia Quincy’s lips. "I knew it would turn out this way. This isn’t the first time Willow Quincy has tried to go after Felix Preston. He would have certainly been well-prepared before making a move."

"He was indeed well-prepared," Jasper Linden added. "He’s still unconscious, but his lawyer showed up at the police station ahead of time. The police have been dealing exclusively with his lawyer; they haven’t even come to the hospital to question him."

Sonia Quincy asked, "So what does his lawyer plan to do?"

"Hmph..." Jasper Linden let out a scornful laugh. "Settle. His lawyer wants to settle."

"Settle my ass?" Evan Yates’s eyes widened in anger. "He left him in this state, and they want to settle? Is this a fucking joke? This counts as a traffic incident!"

Jasper Linden repeated what the police had told him, word for word. "But the only victims in this traffic incident are Felix Preston and Willow Quincy. Willow’s lawyer said that he and Felix know each other, and the crash was simply the result of an impulsive argument. Ultimately, it’s a private matter between the two of them, which means it falls into the category of a civil case."

"Since it’s a civil matter, the police will only file a report and suggest a resolution. If the Preston and Quincy families refuse to let it go, they’ll have to hire their own lawyers and sue."

"Those were the officer’s exact words," he added.

Sonia Quincy raised an eyebrow, her smile twisting into a sneer. "So, what you’re saying is, even though Willow Quincy did this to Felix, we can’t get any help from the police."

Jasper Linden kept his eyes downcast. "I spent two whole days at the station. There are only two solutions they offered."

"First, we agree to a settlement with Willow Quincy. Both parties cover their own medical expenses, sign an agreement, and the matter is closed. Second, we hire a lawyer and sue. But how long that would take, whether Willow Quincy would even show up in court, and whether the suit would be successful—none of that is within the police’s jurisdiction."

"In other words, if we decide to sue, we have to bear all the consequences ourselves."

"Hmph..." Sonia Quincy unlocked her phone, replying to a message Julia Dawson had just sent. ’Willow Quincy really is thorough. He even planned for this. By setting things up this way, we’re screwed whether we settle or sue. It’s a thankless effort, and there’s simply nothing we can do to him.’

Jasper Linden said, "Honestly, even if he hadn’t planned ahead, we wouldn’t be able to touch him. The moment his lawyer arrived at the station, he made his connections clear. Turns out he’s very close with the chief of police."

"..." Sonia Quincy’s hand, holding her phone, began to tremble almost imperceptibly. "Fine. Just fine... So that’s how they want to play, is it?"

Jasper Linden heard the edge in her voice and quickly looked up. "Sonia, don’t get too worked up. That’s what they’re saying at the station now, but if we can provide new evidence proving Willow Quincy’s actions were premeditated, we can get the case reclassified."

"Mm." Sonia Quincy tossed her phone onto the sofa and nodded faintly. After a moment, she suddenly said, "Jasper Linden, Evan Yates, when you two leave, send me a copy of all the files and evidence for this case."

"Okay," Evan Yates agreed readily before asking, "Sister-in-law, what do you need all that for?"

Sonia Quincy smiled. "Since we can’t get justice for Felix Preston through the proper channels, I’ll just have to handle this my own way."

"What are you planning to do?" Jasper Linden instantly sensed something was wrong and shot upright in his chair.

Sonia Quincy kept smiling but wouldn’t say another word.

"Sister-in-law!"

Just then, Lynn Preston burst through the door. "I heard my brother’s awake! How is he now?"
