Chapter 100: Chapter 100: Willow Quincy Wants Her
...
Willow Quincy’s words came out of nowhere, and Sonia Quincy didn’t understand.
"...What did you say?" she asked, frowning.
Willow Quincy tightened his grip on her arm and repeated what he had just said, word by word: "I said, I want you."
"...Are you fucking crazy?!" Sonia Quincy violently threw off Willow Quincy’s hand, so shocked by his words that she was completely stunned.
The pretense was completely shattered. Willow Quincy no longer had anything to be ashamed of.
He twisted his lips into a mocking sneer. Fearing Sonia Quincy hadn’t fully understood his meaning, he patiently repeated himself a third time.
"Sonia Quincy, I want you. I’ve had these feelings for you for a very long time."
"..." Sonia Quincy’s mind went blank for a moment.
She struggled to process Willow Quincy’s words. A few seconds later, she suddenly raised her hand and gave him a resounding slap across the face.
SLAP!
The force of the slap whipped Willow Quincy’s head to the side, his entire cheek burning with a fiery sting.
But he wasn’t angry. Instead, he laughed happily after being hit.
"What? Can’t accept it?"
Sonia Quincy’s eyes narrowed. She cursed at him, utterly exasperated, "You psycho... If there’s something wrong with your head, go to a hospital and get some medication!"
After cursing him out, she turned and ran, rushing toward Felix Preston without a backward glance.
"Felix Preston! Felix, wake up!"
Jasper Linden was patting Felix Preston’s face, persistently calling his name.
"Felix?" Sonia Quincy ran over, holding her belly, and dropped to her knees beside Felix Preston.
Felix Preston was covered in blood. She wanted to touch him but was afraid of causing him more pain. Her own bloodstained hands hovered helplessly in the air, unsure of where to land.
"Felix, it’s me, Sonia. I came... I came to find you." Felix Preston’s breathing was too shallow. Sonia Quincy, terrified he couldn’t hear her, scrambled forward two steps on her knees. She carefully leaned down, trying not to put pressure on her stomach, just to get a little closer to him.
"...So-Sonia..." After several seconds, Felix Preston finally showed a flicker of a reaction.
"COUGH COUGH COUGH..." He coughed and opened his eyes. Blood and dizziness blurred his vision, but he could still recognize the figure before him as Sonia Quincy.
"Sonia..." He struggled to lift his hand, which was dripping blood, wanting desperately to touch her.
"Yes..." Sonia Quincy answered in a trembling voice, quickly grabbing his hand and holding it tight in her own.
"Sonia, don’t be afraid." Felix Preston managed a smile, just like he always did for her. "I’m fine. I’m okay."
"Mhm..." Sonia Quincy nodded, curving her lips in return with an obedient smile. But the smile lasted less than two seconds before she broke down, crying wretchedly.
"I’m sorry, I’m so sorry..." She pressed Felix Preston’s hand to her cheek, apologizing over and over in a choked, trembling voice.
"It’s all my fault. It’s my fault I missed your call, my fault I was late... I’m sorry, Felix. I’m the one who let you get hurt so badly."
"It’s not your fault..." Felix Preston stroked her face, but then he suddenly remembered something, and his expression changed abruptly.
"Sonia." He raised his other hand and frantically covered Sonia Quincy’s ears.
"Don’t listen. Don’t listen to what Willow Quincy is saying... It’s filthy. Too filthy."
"Okay." Sonia Quincy obediently agreed. "I won’t listen to him. I’ll only listen to you."
"Did you know? Our baby kicked me today. While I was frantically looking for you everywhere, he kicked me."
"Re-really...?" Felix Preston lowered one hand and carefully stroked Sonia Quincy’s belly. "The little rascal... he can... can kick now."
"Mhm!" Sonia Quincy wiped away a torrent of tears. "He must have guessed his daddy was in trouble, so he was spinning around anxiously in my belly. Felix, you have to be okay. You have to be okay."
Felix Preston blinked, and a single, crystalline tear, mixed with a trace of blood, slid slowly from the corner of his eye.
"For you, I’ll definitely be okay."
...
The ambulance and police cars arrived at the scene simultaneously. Three paramedics took Felix Preston from Sonia Quincy’s arms, carefully placed him on a stretcher, and loaded him into the ambulance.
"How is that injured man?"
A female nurse got out of the ambulance’s passenger seat and asked Sonia Quincy in a tense voice.
Sonia Quincy wiped her tears away and said with a numb expression, "I don’t know. He’s probably dead."
"...Huh?" The nurse was taken aback by her words and quickly called to her colleagues as they rushed toward Willow Quincy.
Sonia Quincy’s face was cold as she glanced sideways in Willow Quincy’s direction. ’I really, truly hope he just dies right here.’
"Here, wipe your face." Jasper Linden took a clean pack of tissues from his trench coat pocket, pulled out two, and handed them to Sonia Quincy.
Sonia Quincy took them and wiped the tear streaks from her face perfunctorily. "Thank you."
Jasper Linden: "Are you riding back with me, or..."
"I’m going with the ambulance." Sonia Quincy’s voice was very soft, so soft that the words were snatched away by the cold wind the moment they left her lips.
"Felix Preston needs me. I can’t leave him. Thank you so much for today. Thank you for agreeing to help Felix."
Jasper Linden shook his head. "There’s nothing to thank me for. It was no trouble at all."
"It was much more than ’no trouble at all’." Sonia Quincy tucked a windswept strand of hair behind her ear and looked Jasper Linden in the eye, speaking with earnest conviction. "You saved Felix, you saved me, and you saved the baby in my belly. And you did it even after I hurt you in the past. I just... I don’t even know how I can possibly thank you."
Jasper Linden smiled. "What was between you and me is in the past. Besides, you’ve already recognized your mistake and sincerely apologized to me. The resentment in my heart is long gone. There was no reason for me not to help you."
"Thank you." A thousand words couldn’t express what she felt, so all Sonia Quincy could say was "thank you."
Jasper Linden: "I wanted to help, so you don’t have to keep thanking me. But there is one thing I’m a little curious about."
Sonia Quincy frowned slightly. "What is it?"
"Well..." Jasper Linden’s expression showed a hint of conflict. "Even though we’ve reconciled, I am, after all, your ex-boyfriend. As your husband, when he realized he was in danger, why did Felix Preston choose to call me for help instead of someone else?"
"Shouldn’t he be bothered by who I am? I mean, he got so jealous when I transferred you money before that he blocked me."
"Well..." Mentioning Felix Preston’s childish behavior brought a faint smile to Sonia Quincy’s face. "Blocking you is one thing, but that doesn’t stop him from admiring you. Felix once told me that he thinks you’re a great, very charming guy. He... even though he’s bothered by your identity, at that moment, he still felt that you were the only one who would be genuinely willing to help him. That’s why he chose to call you."
"Ah..." This explanation hit the spot for Jasper Linden. He raised an eyebrow, looking a little bashful. "So, I won Felix Preston over with my personal charm. Not bad. The man has good taste. I’ll give him a thumbs-up for that."
Sonia Quincy smiled. "Then I’ll accept that thumbs-up on his behalf."
