Chapter 648: Chapter 646: Who Is His Eldest Brother?

Zhou Zhenhui and Su Yuhan’s wedding was set for three days from now, so as soon as Zhou Zhenhui returned home, he was swamped with preparations.

When Gu Jiaojiao and Su Shuochi woke up, they only saw Mr. Zhou. The three of them had lunch together before going out shopping.

They returned to the Zhou family’s home after dark, and Gu Jiaojiao was stunned to learn that Zhou Zhenhui was getting married in just three days.

Zhou Zhenhui had just told them yesterday that he was going to see what Su Yuhan looked like today.

And now he was back with a wedding date already set. ’Could this be the legendary love at first sight?’

’How incredible!’

’It’s a shame I didn’t get to witness such a dramatic moment firsthand.’

At that thought, she couldn’t help but complain to her husband. "Su Shuochi, it’s all your fault we stayed up talking so late last night."

"Honey... I was wrong... Please don’t be angry. It’s all my fault," Su Shuochi immediately admitted.

Someone else was getting married, but his wife was blaming him for it. ’Where did I go wrong?’ he wondered. ’How come I don’t even know what I did?’

Gu Jiaojiao looked at her husband’s bewildered expression as he apologized and couldn’t help but find it amusing.

’This guy turns into a complete fool whenever it comes to me.’

’How did I ever fall in love with someone like him? Still, a man like this is actually pretty great.’

’I know I hit the jackpot with him, but does he really act like a successful entrepreneur should?’

"So, where did you go wrong?" she asked deliberately, pinching his waist as she spoke.

"I was wrong for..." Su Shuochi began to answer, but Gu Jiaojiao cut him off.

She sighed in resignation. "Forget it. It’s obvious you don’t even know what you did wrong, so I can’t be bothered to hold it against you."

In truth, she didn’t know what he’d done wrong either. Staying up late for prenatal education had been her idea, so she couldn’t really blame him.

"My dear wife, you’re so understanding." Su Shuochi quickly leaned in and pecked her on the corner of her lips.

Gu Jiaojiao was amused by him, but she still put on a serious face and chided, "This is someone else’s garden, and there are servants all around."

"Yes, ma’am! We’ll continue in the guest room," Su Shuochi said with a mock salute before looking up at the sky.

Gazing at the star-filled sky, a faint smile graced his lips. "The night sky is beautiful, but my wife is even more so."

Gu Jiaojiao couldn’t help but chuckle at this, poking him in the waist. "You’re so cheesy."

"My dearest wife, let’s head home right after Zhou Zhenhui’s wedding," he said, leaning in again.

She shot him a playful glare but didn’t pull away, allowing his lips to land on her soft, fair cheek.

"Honey, should we call home and tell our parents about your pregnancy?"

"Let’s not just yet, or they’ll start fussing over us." Gu Jiaojiao pictured the overwhelming enthusiasm from both sets of parents and felt a headache coming on.

As it happened, Mrs. Gu, the very person on Gu Jiaojiao’s mind, was in her courtyard enjoying the sun while holding her granddaughter. Her second daughter-in-law was pregnant again.

Her eldest son’s marriage wasn’t settled, and her daughter had been married for three years with no sign of a baby on the way.

"Honey, when do you think our Jiaojiao will get pregnant? Guoguo just got married this year and is already expecting. The Mu Family’s eldest son is already walking, and their youngest just had his one-month celebration."

"What’s the rush? Jiaojiao is only twenty-one this year. Another two years wouldn’t be too late," Mr. Gu said with a chuckle.

"How can I not be anxious? Look, people who got married after Jiaojiao are already having children. Professor Xia has even had her second child."

"And the New Year is just around the corner. They’re going back to his hometown for the holiday—what if his mother has something to say about it? After all, Shuo Ci is thirty this year!"

"Don’t worry. We can talk about it after the New Year. I think Jiaojiao said they’d start trying when they get back." Mr. Gu was just guessing to placate her.

"When did Jiaojiao tell you they were going to start trying? How come I didn’t know?" Mrs. Gu asked, her eyes wide.

"Shuo Ci told me. He said they plan on having a baby when they get back." Mr. Gu was really just trying to comfort his wife.

’Of course, Su Shuochi would never discuss such things with him; the man is far too busy!’

While Mrs. Gu and her husband were deep in conversation in the courtyard, the granddaughter in her arms suddenly cried out, "Mama!"

"Here, you take our granddaughter. I’m going to check on Lanlan. She’s due any day now."

Mrs. Gu ran upstairs as soon as she finished speaking. Sure enough, pained groans were coming from her second daughter-in-law’s room.

"Lanlan, are you going into labor? I’ll have your father call Second Brother right now!" Mrs. Gu said, running out of the room to shout.

"Okay, I’ll call him now," Mr. Gu nodded, dialing the phone with one hand while holding his granddaughter with the other.

"Lanlan, dear, are you having contractions? This must be labor. Your father-in-law is calling Jingtai now. Let’s get you to the hospital first."

Mrs. Gu’s heart ached seeing her daughter-in-law in so much pain.

She knew her son was always swamped with his business and rarely had the chance to come home.

So, after her daughter-in-law became pregnant this time, she had devoted herself to taking care of their granddaughter, and they had even hired a cook.

"Mom, I’m okay. My stomach just cramped up suddenly. It doesn’t hurt anymore," Li Xiulan said, forcing a smile.

"That means it’s starting. I’ll have your father-in-law arrange for a driver. We should go to the hospital just in case," Mrs. Gu said, breathing a sigh of relief.

「Half an hour later」

The Gu Family’s car pulled up to the hospital entrance, and Second Brother Gu carried Li Xiulan into the obstetrics and gynecology department.

Li Xiulan’s face was pale from the pain, and she was covered in a cold sweat. Mrs. Gu and Mrs. Li followed close behind, their faces etched with worry.

The OB/GYN who met them was Geng Susu. In his panic, Second Brother Gu blurted out, "Sister-in-law, please, check on Lanlan! Is she going into labor?"

"..."

Geng Susu flushed bright red. She did have a crush on Eldest Brother Gu, but that blockhead spent all his time tinkering with new electronics.

’The blockhead doesn’t seem to feel the same way,’ she thought. ’Over the past two years, I can count the number of times we’ve met on one hand.’

’And those meetings were always during the holidays. It’s not like my parents haven’t pushed me to go on blind dates, but they never lead to anything.’

She had first taken a liking to Gu Jiaojiao, her potential sister-in-law, and through her, had slowly come to appreciate Eldest Brother Gu’s character.

In fact, ever since they took that train ride together, she had thought he was a decent person.

It was just that her cousin was always complaining about Eldest Brother Gu’s flaws. ’I don’t know if it’s a case of beauty being in the eye of the beholder or what...’

’...but I actually find him to be a very devoted person. Or maybe he’s just turned over a new leaf.’

Rumor had it that the second brother of the Sheng Family had been driven to ruin by that sister of his—his wife left him, his family was broken, and he had now gone mad, locked away in a mental institution along with her.

Second Brother Gu often brought his wife, Li Xiulan, in for her prenatal checkups, and over time, he and Geng Susu had become familiar with each other.

She didn’t want to wait any longer, which was why just a few days ago, she had asked the Gu family’s second son to invite his elder brother out to dinner with them.

Geng Susu wanted to correct him, but when she thought about how she really did want to marry that blockhead, she swallowed her words.

Seeing that Geng Susu didn’t say anything, Second Brother Gu continued, "Sister-in-law, Lanlan..."

"Put her down here. I’ll examine her," Geng Susu interrupted him gently.

Mrs. Gu glanced at Geng Susu, then back at her second son. ’His elder brother?’ she wondered.
